Purveyors of false metal. They contribute to the increase in **** false metal like modern tech-death (that features **** crystal-clear production, type-writer sounding drums, and breakdowns bookended by weedly-weedly sweeped guitar leads), and "retro" party-thrash (which tries to sound like it was from the 80s but fails horribly).

That is not related in the slightest.

Yeah it is you're crying about people liking metal that isn't the metal you like saying they're not real metal heads and instead are falsies and poseurs. It is entirely related.

I'm not saying that it's not metal, I'm saying that it's **** metal and that makes them "falses" and "poseurs". 90% of people in serious metal circles look down on generic, recycled, overproduced tech-death and meatheaded party thrash in the same way. You are being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse.

I am not a fan of needlessly discriminatory rhetoric for hopefully obvious reasons just let them make their music and you listen to your music you don't need to make up dumb labels to talk about people listening to what they like.

Idk why you need to make up enemies within your genre.

Maybe it's because metal's time is over and it's time to move on. Metal has been gentrified so it's pretty dead.

I didn't know you could be such a hipster about metal.

On a semi-related note, I find that hipsters and nerds tend to overlap in their attitudes about their hobbies, interests, and tastes, in that they're both elitist and exclusionary about them. It's neat.

i feel like in the past it was more of a having to prove that you're part of the club to get in but with a lot more main stream acceptance (lol) of nerd and hipster stuff people are more willing to open up, but yes.

You're wrong. There is tons of expansion and innovation to be had in metal; black metal in particular is the strongest its ever been, and will continue to be strong and innovative for years. Bands like modern Burzum, Deathspell Omega, ColdWorld, Inquisition and Summoning prove this factually.

Being an elitist, or pretentious (I will readily admit I am both), or being uncontent with mediocrity, does not make me a hipster.

"factually". We're still talking about music, right?

innovation isn't making a new kind of metal music. innovation is making an impact on music as a whole which metal did way back but isn't now. people still make new metal music, which is fine, but it's time is over, which is also not a bad thing. Being a fan of something is also fine but metal isn't the final boss form of music. It's just another stepping stone on the line.

I'm aware its not the "final boss form of music". As I've stated earlier in the thread, I love many other forms of music. But to say metal is dead, that its time is over, is blatantly incorrect. And no, one can be innovative and not create an entirely new genre. All one must do is do something that has not been done before. Which, if you've even heard any of the bands I listed, you would see is the case.
