General idea: Attack! and burn face, some explosive plays can be made with Hearfire. So I was trying to play some black... and got my hands on Wyatt Darby Rakdos deck... but then I took mine and made some swaps here and there... I went super low to the ground and the pile is working so far on the plat ladder.
Davriel is too cute... and control is not a big issue for the deck, between amount of cards this thing can access and the burn I think we can take him off the SB. Angrath´s Rampage is busted for Pws control but a couple Cast down are huge now that people are going tall. Shock is great also but 4 copies is just too much.
So: -1 Angrath Rampage -2 Shocks -- +2 Cast Down +1 Theatre of horrors
With 2 Theatres in the maind deck I wonder if I want Carnival // Carnage to enable Spectacle... I already have Pyromancers, shock and Demon
The more hellbent approach is not very good in the meta this week, that's against Gruul and Bant mainly, Esper Hero and the Grixis piles we can handle RDW is slightly unfavored for us... Phoenix is a coin flip but after SB we pack TOOOON of removal! so after some intense testing -Me yelling at the screen coz some bastard top decks everything he needs- I have came with some conclusions.
Judith is not Standard material ATM.... this is very sad news but yes she is just not good enough the 2 toughness is awful in a shock meta... comparing her with Warboss who has the same toughness but can single handedly spiral take over the game makes the cut more easy.. fare well Judith... may the force be with you
Heartfire: Amazing tech but you know what sucks... to have your Dreadhorde Butcher against Spellbreaker... you can't target almost anything its awful... and Shalai is starting to came wonder around also so this spell got the axe! Fireblade: Swarming the board with this 2 toughness guys is just a bad idea... this guy has haste wich comes in handy but as the testing continued some cards took his spot
Shock: we have black... nuff said! Angrath rampage: to narrow... I rather may another black and kill what I want at instant speed. Theatre of horrors: Very good card... but much better in a pure aggro shell, and this meta already has a better deck doing that so axe! New cards on the main deck Daredevil: So much versatility... I love this guy, with so many though erasures this guy is worth GOLD Bedevil: PWs... Cast Down: People are jamming a lot of high toughness creatures and completely forgets that black does not care how fat is your ass, Ballhaunt I´m looking at you! Skarrgan Hellkite: Versatility, haste can come a long way Chandra: I love her and I like drawing cards... sometimes it can be awful to exile your Gutterbones or the exact card you needed but could not cast it but overall she demands answers and can ping opposing PWs making the combat math a lot more intensive... same as Butcher... that guy can block guys twice his size.
SB highlight: Find // Finality... so I have a lot of nasty creatures ... and when games go long this card lets me play my Daredevils more loosely or cast my bombs knowing that they will eat removal, I loving this and catches people absolutely off guard.
NEW pile: So we stay with a low curve on G1, we can pressure our opponent quite aggressively while developing and removing threats... curve out into big flyers to finish things up, it the air.
On the sideboard we can go full control or we can try to out grind our opponent with value. Take into consideration that after SB you can be holding: 4 Cast Downs, 4 Lava Coils, 4 Bedevil...
If you want to go full control chop the Gutterbone´s and Rix Maadi Reveler´s, if you want to go lower to the ground try chopping a couple Chandras add Find//Finality and a couple Duress depending on the matchup.
The deck requires some time to get the feel of what you are trying to do, Rix Maadi is a tricky to cast on curve, if you have a Gutterbones do toss that guy to the bin
Games go long so take that into consideration the deck can curve out and kill one stalled opponent but the plan is for Mid to Late game.
The deck is starting to gain a lot of weight... the results are still not optimal but I think there’s potential here, I’m gonna make this thing work dammit!!
I think I'm gaining a little weight too. last time i saw my doctor he said, "open your mouth and say oink"
You and me both buddy.
I think low to the ground is where this deck needs to be. Will it be better than mono red though? hard to say. Where is priest of the forgotten gods at? seems good in any judith deck.
Your point regard judith having only 2 toughness is relevant. Could put dead revels in the sb for red matchups.. not sure its worth it but considering a lot of pieces die to shock and the deck is built to spectacle every turn it might be worth it.

When the deck loses, with your opponent very low on life, so a little more reach could be what we need, how about Revival... that card could buy Judith back... yes she is not bad I think was too harsh on her... she is not a 4 of on the deck anymore tho..
sounds like a good idea
I was running Find //Finality and it works just fine... I only wish I could use the other half sometimes ...
But now I´m thinking maybe one gruesome menagerie could do the trick... as a one of for the late game..
The fast version is better as you say I abandoned the fat version for now and return to the basics

Here is what I have been running with some success. Some fun interactions. Most creatures become Burn eventually. I was running 2 Theater of Horrors and replaced with 2 Rix, but they haven't really come up since I replaced them.
Bloody Mess
Creature(29) x4 Knight of the Ebon Legion x4 Fanatical Firebrand x4 Priest of Forgotten Gods x2 Rix Maadi Reveler x4 Dreadhorde Butcher x4 Mayhem Devil x3 Judith, the Scourge Diva x4 Spawn of Mayhem
Teatre of horrors is such a weird card... It should be amazing but most times it does not do much, I'm testing one on my pile. I love Chandra in your pile the little combo with Priest and Mayhem Devil must be fun, did you ever consider Spitfire? The 3 cmc is a downside but with all the direct damage it may be worth a try, maybe a dedicated deck with spectacle shenanigans could do the trick.
I miss Guterbones or Lazotep reaver in your pile did you test them?

I agree on Theater. I do think it is good, it is just too slow in this deck imo. Spending a turn basically doing nothing for card advantage later is more a long term plan then the bloody massacre this deck is looking to accomplish. I just switched two out for Rix though, and I may find I miss them.
I may try Spitfire. I honestly overlooked it. Not sure what I would cut, but the evasion would be useful not to mention the potential power.
Gutterbones I tried and just was not that impressed. I may change my mind as I play this deck more, but too often it was just a 2/1. I mean it combos well with the priest and is tough for control, but without the priest, it gets stopped by a lot. The silly 0/3 wall can complexly take it out of the game as example. Everything else either doesn't care about blockers to get some damage in or can pump enough to make people have to chump block (Or Rix can draw cards)
Speaking of Rix, it is just an experiment right now. I like the potential card draw + a body, but once on the board being just a 2/2 is not that exciting. Maybe I will try Spitfre here?
Lazotep is interesting, but I was actually looking at the enchantment that Amasses every turn instead, I played a bit with it in a silly Divine Visitation deck and it was better then expected solo, but again, probably too slow and not impactful enough.
You are right on Chandra. She combos so well with Priest and Mayhem. It is often to the point where I don't even attack with the 'little guys' to make sure hey can sac for Mayhem or Priest can get mana in a main phase. One fun game I only had Chandra and 2 Mayhems out. 4 pts of damage a turn that you can spread anywhere you want ends a game pretty quickly.
Really, I am not sure if the deck is as good as it feels so far. I just recently came back and haven't found a deck I like AND can have success with, but so far this seems about as good as RDW but more interesting to play. I am Gold 1 now, and guessing my views on the deck may change as I move up the ranks.
Wyatt Darby was playing a Rakdos deck the other day, it looked like the fat version I was previously testing with a transformational sideboards into big Chandra, Lily and Angrath. I will try to reverse engenier it and test when I got some time.
