I've been playing dota underlords. It's an 8 player round robin game where you want to be the last one standing. Between each round of automated combat, you get gold and can buy heroes from a shop which gives you a random selection of 5 to choose from (and you can pay 2 gold to reshuffle what heroes are in the shop, or get a free reshuffle at the end of each round). Buying heroes of the same class gives you bonuses, like if you have 2 savage heroes on the field then all your heroes get +10% damage, and if you have 4 savage heroes they get +25%. Buying 3 copies of the same hero fuses them into a higher level version of that hero. Heroes also gain mana and each have a unique ability they cast when they have enough mana. Sometimes there are rounds against neutral creeps which award items, either global items or weapons/armor where you can choose which hero to equip it to

So you just outfit your character and the computer has it duke it out against other people's computer controlled characters?

Yeah. It's less about outfitting your character (each character can only have at most 1 item, and if you choose global items from neutral rounds then you have even less equipment to hand out) but about choosing your team (your team can have up to ten heroes, or eleven with a special item) and arranging the starting positions of your heroes

Been playing the League of Legends version (Teamfight Tactics), and while some mechanics have different impacta between games of this genre, they have the same premise:

1. Players buy units from a shared pool with in game currency and place them on the field to fight.

2. Players can also buy experience to level themselves up and put more units on the field.

3. Some units have common characteristics that, when a player has enough distinct units with that characteristic on the field, grant bonuses.

4. Multiples of the same unit can combine into a stronger version, and multiples of that stronger version can be combined into one even stronger.

5. As for the shared pool, in TFT the chances of seeing higher level units increases with the players level: this is noteworthy as the pool provided is shared between all players.

Underlords has the same thing for the chance of seeing more expensive heroes, so you have to choose between staying low level to get more copies of your early heroes, or leveling up to start adding rare heroes to your crew

I played this game long ago, but it is a fantastic project. I loved coming up with different tactics and building to win. Naturally, as in any game, you can't win all the time, but that's motivation to come up with something new and invincible. I mostly took first or second place, so I quickly got bored. So I started playing with another project and looked into bonuses on the skycoach.gg gaming platform to have an advantage at the start of the game. This is normal for quality games because the donation helps support the developer.
