Okay, let's do this.
PlainsSome stand and stare out at the seas,
While waves are tickled by the breeze,
But waves will ripple too through seas of grains,
So why should I not sit or stand,
And likewise stare across the land,
And over these, my vast, beloved plains?
In mires, choked with blackened mud,
The leeches feed on tainted blood,
That flows like ichor through their victims’ veins,
But lifeblood here is more pristine,
In streams and veins that still run clean,
Throughout the hallowed, happy, healthy plains.
The jagged peaks of mountains high,
Which seem to wish to pierce the sky,
Then plummet down in failures and in pains,
Can never see what truly matters,
When this terrain is kinder, flatter,
Like through the wide expanse of golden plains.
In forests, not yet trimmed or thinned,
The trees abuse the loving wind,
Directing it like cattle through the lanes,
But here, with all our open air,
The wind is free to wonder where
It feels like in these great and open plains.
The Moneychangers and the banks,
Will mutter all their clanging thanks,
When they have tallied monetary gains,
But here, I speak a different oath,
While marveling at greater growth,
With even less investment in the plains.
While locked in dungeons deep below
The surface of the world they know,
Those prisoners must rattle at their chains,
But I, who luck and fate decreed
Should stay above, unchained and freed,
Can revel in the freedom of the plains.
And that is why I always keep
The people here in endless sleep,
A perfect order’s what my spell maintains,
No malcontents, protests, or talkers,
And rarely, any other ‘walkers,
Who try to take from me my rightful planes!
