After some delays, it's finally time to see who's got the groove and can deliver the best song!

Image
Song of Freyalise
Time to break into a song!

Deadline for Judging is June 30th.

Rules:
1. Break-a-card contest brews must play all 4 copies of the chosen card.
2. Lists should preferably be for best-of-1, although you can submit best-of-3 lists if you feel so inclined (but the judges won't like it, so you've been warned!).
3. Final lists must be sent to me by private message before the deadline. Want to make a change? Sure, just make sure to be clear about which is the final one.
4. Want to be a judge? Be prepared to blow some WCs on jank, because you can't judge a list without playing it.
5. Have fun!
6. The winner gets to choose the card for the next contest.
7. I'll leave judging criteria to each judge to choose (although clarification by the judges is welcome). All I need is that you order submitted lists from best to worst.
8. Participants can also be judges. Just use common sense and be fair when judging your own lists.
9. The winner will be the list with the highest classification (points awarded from 1 to however many lists are submitted, from last to first)
10. In case of a tie, the winning lists will actually play against each other to determine the winner.
11. There will be a poll for the best judge and the most voted will award double points!

We ended up having a nice turn-out with 5 would-be musicians contending to be the breaker of songs (I do believe some guitars will be smashed during the judging).

Would anyone be interested in me recording the "judging games" (but without commentary ) ?

Btw if you don’t want to drop WCs on 4! Emaras I don’t think using 3 Emaras and 3 flourish is a huge deviation. Also, don’t forget to play multitude on upkeep when appropriate, those Freyalise counters are intended to happen after your big spell, not before.

Edit: also snubhorn sentry can be switched for dauntless bodyguard in any combination, since I’m assuming most already have bodyguards. It won’t really affect the deck much.

I use multitude on the opponent end step so my guys can attack right away, If I were to have 2 then it would be bonkers to cast one on end step and double the tokens on the upkeep... HMMMMM

In this deck doing it on end step might miss out on an attacking opportunity, or max tokens, but yeah... it’s all very dependent on the game state. I just wanted to make sure people considered the less obvious option of untapping and then casting a larger multitude before draw step, to double the power while still getting the maximum tokens AND having a full prior turn.

Too many missing green cards for me to judge...
I might fool around with some replacement cards, but unfortunately I can't do the full lists...

Warm up round!!
* two games per deck no matter the result, I already took all this decks for a couple of runs Vs sparky and I know how to pilot them... at least thats what I think.

EDIT: Recording, will upload later ;D

G1
DJ on the Spotlight Vs RDW... yikes!
I´m soo afraid of Chainwhirler in this matchup
It wasnt necesary... he had the right removal and threats... not a match we could handle...
0-1

G2
Against Merfolk
I got two March of the Multitude... 1313
Dang!!!
I casted the March of the multitudes just as we said.. I casted the first on my main phase to avoid a counter from the opponent... then I cast the second one and draw a frigging Loxodon!! yay!!
so now I got 19 tokens 5 of them are 3/3´s
He cast sleep on me and kills me on the spot!
LOL!!
0-2

Haven Next
G1
Against Mono Green Explore
I cast a turn 4 Ugin
He kills my Ugin and resolves Galtha!!
Note to self: Manually tap mana with Marywin!!!
Lots of mistakes here and there.. so suboptimal usage of mana...
Combat math is a bitch... we took it home on the back swing!!
1-0
This deck is a lot harder to pilot

Against Chandra...
we took some hits but then we did the math and swing for Exacties!
My brain hurts!
2-0
Nice deck!

That would be all for now

Vids uploaded

Heffalump next
...
Vs and Awful mono black deck... that completely wiped his ass with us...
0-1
Against RDW... with not a single removal on the whole deck... you can imagine what happened... Disgusting!!
0-2

Now Darkstar !
This deck is fuuun
amazing win vs jeskai Pws we had a HUUUUUGE Hydra on the board + Nissa and Kiora before the rage quit!
1-0
Interesting match Vs 5 color lantern
a very well placed Warrant on our HUUUUUGE Hydra was fundamental on the loss but nothing to be ashamed the deck is fun.

Me next
Fun win vs Grixis control

Fun loose Vs Orzhov Sacrifice... that deck was spicy!!
1-1

So in the end of the trial Haven stands alone with a 2-0 records not that it matters but the deck felt good.

Will upload the second part in a bit

calling it a day!

Hey Cucho, thanks for giving a try :) Turns out spending more time may be a good idea :D

But what doesn't click with me in all this is that the card in question is sort of disregarded.
At the very least I'd like to see some comment at whether it was played and how well it did. Because if we don't care if it was played, I'd just slap 4 Freyalise on RDW and it will perform great still. If not RDW then some Gruul monsters.
Maybe it need to go as far as playing these deck versus each other instead, or at least in addition to the real field.

Nice games Cucho, you ran into the decks it works best against (mostly green with little interaction).

When the deck works it can escalate really quickly, but if your opponent is playing removal.dec, things don't go so well (beware sweepers).

Yeah don't worry this was a test drive, I will provide some thoughts on every build, I think the breakage of the card has to balance those two aspects, have synergies and being able to win too.

Your deck ran into big problems with out any way to interact, I think that is a mistake coz every deck needs ways to answer opposing threats, I dont like it when I dont have at least 4-7 pieces of removal in a deck.

As in the previous contest I will make a two stage trial, one on paper one on ladder an event and extra points for fun interactions -In this system a fun interaction is worth the same that a full win to try to balance what you said- anyway here´s the other vid, if you got some piloting tips now is the time to provide :D

Playing the land at 27:03 was very unfortunate.

Yeah, I made that mistake second time it seems :) And Mowus have nothing to do there, now that I see it from the outside.

DJ´s DECK
Dont fancy your self Barney it says DECK!
Image

So this deck is the lowest to the ground, it has 10 posible T1 plays which is a lot, it plays with token generation and it can swarm the board quite fast, I love that about the deck, on the other hand it has very few usages for the mana that Freyalise provides coz Loxodon and March already have convoke on them, so it should come to casting a kicked Saproling migration, other than that it maximizes the amount of effective counters you get by gumming out the ground.

The deck is consistent in what its trying to do, nothing super fancy or janky.
The mana looks fine but running 22 lands and 2 flower seems odd I would rather run 20 lands and 4 flower... that said 24 "virtual lands" is a bit too much for the deck IMO, I loved the Arch on the mana base.

It can run out of cards quite fast and Chainwhirler or any sweeper is going to be fatal, I should just play as if they do not exist coz the blow out is so huge that in the end I will end up losing to playing around something I cant really avoid.
Cards that I miss here:
- Ajani.. he is just what a token heavy deck wants
- Maybe Inmortal Sun as a Ramp payout and a way to keep the pressure up.

So do I dare giving DJ less than the perfect score...

I do think the deck is solid and having a lot of 1 drops helps getting a lot of value Ramp from Freyalise you can go 1 drop into freyalise, into another 1 drop to ramp for a 4-5 drop on T3... but I miss something to ramp too or something that provides cards, top decking Freyalise is awful in any deck but this deck can be on top decking mode quite fast... I would say that is the fastest deck in the contest and can win quite some games, so in the end 6 out of 7 EDIT: I miss some spiciness here for the 7/7

I started the event but forgot to record the first game and the client went to a downtime.

G1
Vs Mono black starter deck
T1 Land
T2 Emara
T3 Saproling migation
T4 Sapriling Migration into Loxodon
T5 Legions landing attack flip -top decking mode-
T6 cast March on the beginning of my upkeep and put 10 tokens on the board, I drew Loxodon... NOICE!
next turn I attack for a million opponent had one removal and some random creatures.

1-0

Will continue later
