Another one because I have lost all ability to concentrate:

Quote:
Breathe in, breathe out. Doran could clearly see the pained breaths of the dying man at his feet. Breathe in, breathe out. He realized his own breath was ragged as he was contemplating his next action. Breathe in, breathe out. His sword hovered over the soldier’s throat, then…

Breathe in...

No one felt safe, not even the Loxodon. But I wasn't too worried. Our camp was guarded by Neurok scouts. I knew they were good, because they had survived so far.

Right then the Phyrexians entered the camp. The last thing I saw was a monster, holding Gerrak's Infiltration Lens.

“Thopters tell me you’re getting outside sometimes, taking a walk in the gardens. Good!” Fabria smiled. “What are cleaning from your helmet each time, though? Pollen shouldn’t clog its filters.”

Jack averted his eyes, trying not to think about the beautiful autumns in Elphimas’ Haven.

“Tears.”

Quote:
Elphimas hesitated.

They remembered being here, of course, but they remembered someone else. Autumn. A familiar figure, clad in metal.

They took a few beep breaths, massaged their temples, and the feeling want away, together with the memory of it.

This is some impressive forum necromancy, Huey. Also, some good writing. Thank you for sharing, and for reminding me of the little gems that were sitting here already.

Glass shattered. Donagut sighed deeply. He looked into the mirror, or rather the mirror shards that mingled with those of his empty bottle. Then he looked out the window into the Great City.

Where no dogs were barking.

“I hate home,” he said. “And I hate that this ain’t it.”

I'm so glad that I was reminded this exists, because I just haven't been able to get over inertia to start writing. This is just the kind of bite sized exercise I need to get back into things.

Tarag felt justified. Elementals were bad news. That’s why he had been harpooning as many as he could. And now they had come to the Doun to cause trouble, just as he had known they would. But they were already turning and running again. Easy. But what was that noise?

Here's a throwback to a character I created long ago but never did anything with:

Quote:
Elanda sat on the narrow bed, struggling with mixed emotions about her recent heist. She was proud that her plan had worked perfectly, yet she was disappointed with the results. Far from the great source of power the rumors had mentioned, the dust of moments was basically a parlor trick.

"I thought you loved me," the mark pleaded when Claw unsheathed her brother's knife.

"I did," he whispered to her corpse, his voice raw. Aguta?

Yes?

Claw grimaced and pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to will the traces of the artificial feeling from his heart.

Never again.

I haven't written anything in much too long again, so I made this:

Quote:
"You don't want to go down there. You're better off crossing the hills."
"I thought there were minotaurs in the hills? How is that better?"
"Well, you see, unlike the beast you'll find down in Skola Vale, minotaurs are at least decent enough to kill you before they eat you."

Birds chirped throughout the jungle. Light filtered down through the canopy, signaling the arrival of morning. Another morning. Another day.

And there was still no sign of him.

Lady Nasina looked around her. The spiders scurried everywhere, going about their lives. Nasina brushed away a tear, and did the same.

Awww... it's interesting to see it mirrored, in some way, with Nasina's 50 words. Nasina is surrounded by companions, but lacks a meaningful one. Nasperge is alone, but carries Moira in his heart, and sometimes that's enough. They're both characters I'd love to read more about, and this snippets are like appetizers for that.

Maybe someday I'll need to write the story about when Nasperge and Lady Nasina first met. That could be fun.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Sharaka just stood there, taking in the sight of the collapsing volcano, thinking of home.

Four arms struggled to wrap around her chest.

"I thought you didn't like hugs, Elm?"

"I do not," Elphimas replied, "but I feel like you need one."

A corner of her mouth turned upwards. "Thanks."

Nice. It definitely reminds me of a high school moment, but I think the sentiment fits with these two characters, too. It will definitely be interesting to see how many of these little Sharaka/Elphimas moments end up coming into the overarching canon stories.

Oof, almost word for word, sorry. That kind of thing is common for Elphimas at their best: they avoid physical contact when possible, but they're willing to get out of their comfort zone to connect with someone they care about when it's needed, and Sharaka is very physical character. Somewhat similarly, they're asexual but determinate to find a way to satisfy their partner's needs, as I have already shown in Broken Stars.

About their canon interactions... I don't know. I have plans for a story with them as main characters, but Burning Home is in the way. We'll see.
