Certainly possible I'm just playing the deck badly. But then Pascal Maynard (who played the deck to 8-2 at the MC) just uploaded a video of him playing this to ChannelFireball (https://www.channelfireball.com/videos/ ... 1551613807), and watching the first match, that is exactly what tends to happen to me. Will watch the rest at some point probably, but getting destroyed by a deck that's supposed to be heavily favored is not reassuring. You can see what I mean as well in both games: game 1 he gets aggroed out by Jadelight Ranger and Incubation Druid (seriously?) and then in the second game, he Pascal plays Explosion for 6 on the opponent's Llanowar Elves which is effectively hoping opponent wouldn't have a Vivien. If opponent didn't have a Vivien he's in a good spot, but since opponent did, he promptly lost. RIP. You could argue it was a misplay (I for example would've kept the Sinister Sabotage on top with the surveil a turn earlier), but it illustrates well what I mean when I say "pray they don't have it".

I was just watching Pascals vid... he made a bunch of mistakes IMO, trying to get the reclamation ASAP thats why I think this is more a control deck, I’m no pro nor I intend to be one but he did played the deck awfully.
Like I saw he upload a vid and thought yeah this could convince more people to try the deck... also think about having syncopates or burn spells instead of Growth and Opt... he would have being able to do a lot more than he did...after watching the vid I think less people wikl play it -_-

Like you dont want to tap out T3 against a nexus deck, he did and got punished; you dont want to let them resolve a reclamation and start getting extra turns, he resolved Niv and lost on the spot; you dont want to let your reclamation unprotected against Vivien he did just that; you dont
Want to cast Chemisters insight when you are holding a counter... he did... you dont want to kill a random creature before your opponent end step he killed one crapy 2 drop instead of Tithe taker... I mean if you want the deck to work you gotta play a lot better than that... CGB did one good job on the break the card contest I would watch that over this Pascal vid anytime.

Are we looking at the same video? If so, then I've watched a few more matches and aside from the play I describe above his other plays seem quite reasonable. Of course, he also lost a ton, when I stopped watching he was 1-3 ...

I've been playing your deck Cucho...running 12-10 right now. Best play so far was digging 12 cards EoT to get a Fiery Cannonade to sweep the board and watching my opponent sad face me.

Took this deck into a constructed event and surprisingly went 7-1, beating 3 monored decks in the process. The one game I lost was also to monored, but I screwed that one up by playing Fiery Cannonade against his board of two pirates, having "smartly" kept the Shock in my hand against his T1 Fanatical Firebrand since Cannonade was going to sweep it up anyway. If that hadn't happened I think I would've won too.

Makes me wonder if I got really lucky, or if the players in constructed event queues are significantly worse than on ladder. I'm not even that high on the ladder, sitting in the gold brackets I believe. That said, I did face some non-meta decks, such as an Orzhov control list playing Fountain of Renewal with Dawn of Hope as the win condition.

Lol, and the very next run I promptly go 2-3 losing to three monored decks. Monored sure seems to be infesting the Constructed events. It feels so silly, losing to monored, and then soundly beating the control decks with Revitalize ...

Tell me Cucho: how do you beat Sultai when they have Wildgrowth Walker into an explore creature if you don't have Lightning Strike up to kill the Walker with the trigger on the stack?

Once the Walker is a 2/4 or a 3/5, the only way this deck is beating it is with Niv-Mizzet (okay, but blocking with Niv-Mizzet is never a reliable strategy), or two burn spells (2-for-1). And this is against Sultai, which is supposed to be a good matchup. I don't even know. The deck is fun, but I just get overrun way too easily. Like, the explore creature is a minimum of 2 power. Wildgrowth Walker is also a minimum of 2 power. Those two can establish a respectable clock. If Jadelight Ranger is @ 4 power, that's 7 damage/turn - I don't get it.

1rst option is Syncopate, if they resolve a T1 elf then syncopate is worth crap...
2nd LAVA COIL
3rd option is to Fiery cannonade + Exp for 5 mana before the WGW reaches 5 toughness
4th and final option is to Reclamation into Exp
After SB you can add more removal and some Oozes

Oh yeah, Syncopate's a card I've yet to try. Care to share a current list?

Also: have you considered adding Phoenix / Ooze to the maindeck? They turn on opposing removal but are still tough creatures to answer, they can stabilize the board, and it'd even save some sideboard space. Turning on opposing removal doesn't seem that bad either: the matchup against aggressive decks is already bad enough, i.e. they can beat you even with dead cards. It's not like they even have that many dead cards either - monored and monowhite have no dead cards vs. you. Sultai has some, but Cast Down doesn't fully answer either creature so it's just Vraska's Contempt that you're turning on (and only against Phoenix), and the same goes for Esper control.

Honestly I feel like more Rekindling Phoenix is a good idea in the maindeck. There aren't many spells that can kill it 1-for-1. Vraska's Contempt is the obvious one, but getting that card out of the way for when Niv-Mizzet lands is a good thing. Conclave Tribunal can also kill it, but without Phoenix it's going to kill your Wilderness Reclamation / Search for Azcanta anyway, and those are even more important. In the meantime, if Phoenix stays alive, it would do a better job of preserving your life total than almost any other realistic card you could run. Biogenic Ooze could work, but the problem is this card turns on an Esper opponent's sweepers.

Another possibility is Entrancing Melody. What do you think of running that maindeck? It should be extremely effective against your worst matchups. It's dead against non-creature decks of course, but then Shivan Fire is also dead, as is Fiery Cannonade, and those would be the cards that Melody would replace. Offhand, the only thing I can see you lose is the ability to cycle them with Niv-Mizzet on the battlefield.

If running these cards the cards I'd think first of replacing would be the other cheap interaction - Shock & Lighting Strike - since they have the same role of holding the ground early.

I have been testing Kraxis from the SB.... I like it a lot more than Ooze
It draws gains life... drops a big body and the cards you draw generally you can use them after you untap...

If you have a Reclamation in play though, Ooze is probably even stronger than Krasis. The only thing missing is the lifegain, but I am not sure how much that matters. For sure you need lifegain against monored, but by the time you're casting Krasis you're probably close to dying already.

On another note, I've been playing with Phoenix and Entrancing Melody in place of Lava Coil and Shivan Fire. Phoenix overperformed. If opponent doesn't have removal I can stabilize behind it; if opponent has removal then I would've lost even if the Phoenix were either Shivan Fire or Lava Coil anyway. I only have two Phoenixes, but would probably be willing to go up to three. Entrancing Melody on the other hand was quite poor. Occasionally it would win a game, but if the opponent attacked the turn previous then you end up stealing a tapped creature, which is just awful. I originally dropped Fiery Cannonade, but against History of Benalia that card is the only thing standing between them and your life total.

I've been trying Fountain of Renewal as a lifegain option - it seems like the only good option, although I've not yet tried Gift of Paradise - but am not sure how good that is yet. So far I've only drawn it once against Golgari midrange in BO1, but it did let me play all my shocklands aggressively.

On another note: do you know if this is correct? It's end of my turn. They play Merfolk Trickster. I let it resolve, and there is no target for Trickster's trigger. After it resolves, can I still cast Fiery Cannonade or does it go to their turn at once? I lost a game earlier today because I thought I could kill the Trickster after it resolved, but the game autopassed to his turn, which was frustrating.

On the trickster thing you need to put a stop when the trickster is on the stack, that thing happened to me once and was a lost game.
Also you always wanna put an end step stop, just in case, I do that almost automatically by now, I have lost enough games to auto pass.

Did you see the Kazuren Temur Red deck? It's basically a big red deck with some anti-control tools: Treasure Map, Karn, Siege-Gang Commander, Rekindling Phoenix, and all that good stuff, and splashing for Hydroid Krasis (literally the only card in the deck that costs either green or blue mana). It's built for BO1, but apparently is capable of beating both monored and Esper control - a formidable feat.

I won't be able to try it because it takes more wildcards than I'm willing to spend, but wonder what you think about it, although it feels too fundamentally different for its ideas to be adapted to Temur Reclamation.

Very quick note about Fountain of Renewal: I've played two copies of it for some time now and it's been surprisingly good. The main point is that it fits the curve very well. The other selling point is that if played on turn 1 it can gain a lot of life against aggressive decks, while against control decks I can always cycle it. The main drawback is that it's not very high impact. Yeah I can gain some life, but in terms of the number of turns it buys, that's often still zero even if I have it on turn 1. If I manage to stabilize though, it does let me pull away from burn range.

Not sure if I want to keep running it or swap out for Gift of Paradise.

Cucho can I get your opinion on postboard matchups, in particular what you board in and out, and why? Here's what I've realized so far, although a lot of it is speculative.

Biogenic Ooze: bring in against decks with small ground creatures (Sultai, White Weenie, potentially monored if out of good options in board).
Rekindling Phoenix: bring in liberally when you want to increase your creature count. It's just a good card. As I mentioned I think 3 copies in the 75 is better than 2, but I only have two copies of this. The chances of this card still being in the deck postboard is quite high. Hard to imagine a time when I'd want to board it out.
Niv-Mizzet: against control decks in general. Can't tell if I want to board him in against Nexus.
Negate: to fight counter wars (Nexus, control). I am not sure how many copies of this card to have in the board, because my maindeck is already very heavy on counterspells (I notice yours is, too) @ 7. These decks are likely to bring in creatures as well.
Fiery Cannonade: this is the easiest card to evaluate. Bring it in against decks with small creatures. 4 copies is imperative against Mono W. I still like having some copies against Mono U and Mono R (2-3?).
Shivan Fire: same as above, except I bring in all the copies I have against Mono U and Mono R.
Lightning Strike: currently not running this in favor of Lava Coil. I imagine they serve the same purpose.
Lava Coil: against aggressive creature decks, and if expecting Rekindling Phoenix.
Crushing Canopy: against Thief of Sanity & Wilderness Reclamation, mostly, and also against Drakes & Niv-Mizzet.
Thrashing Brontodon: against small aggressive creature decks, and Wilderness Reclamation.
Gift of Paradise: against MonoW and MonoR.

Cards that go out would be:

Fiery Cannonade: I never rely on this to kill Thief of Sanity anyway.
Shivan Fire and other removal spells: when they aren't good. I am not sure about taking these out against Esper; on the other hand with 3x Syncopate that might be enough to cover a T3 Thief on the draw.
Sinister Sabotage: against aggressive decks since they're too fast and you can't hold up mana. Syncopate needs to stay in because it's potential T2 interaction, though.
Syncopate: I tend to board down on these against control & Nexus decks, reason being the games go long and then they become very expensive counterspells.
Growth Spiral: same as above. Because the game goes long, ramp is less important and the chances of still having a land to play when I draw Growth Spiral drops (I did just win a game by ramping to Niv-Mizzet against my opponent's 3 lands, however). I never completely cut all four, but I go down 1-2 copies.

Two Questions:

1) Do you ever trim on Expansion//Explosion? Why?
2) Do you ever trim on Chemister's Insight & Wilderness Reclamation? Why?

I should try some of the cards in your sideboard as well. Essence Scatter has always seemed like a reasonable card to have, but I've never tried it, same as Search for Azcanta (this card is especially important against control after all, since it can come down on turn 2 before counterspells are available).
