I just lost a game against a Cabal Stronghold / Chromatic Lantern deck. This happened:

1) He used Golden Demise to sweep board. So I played around the next one. I had nothing else to cast though, so I tried to Conclave Tribunal his Treasure Map, completely missing that he had 2 counters on it + one open mana. Naturally he scryed in response and my Conclave Tribunal hit only a treasure.
2) Afterwards, he used Karn's +1 revealing Carnage Tyrant and a land. He didn't have a lantern out, so he can't cast Tyrant, but I gave him the land anyway.
3) Afterwards, with him at 1 life, he used Karn's +1 revealing Vraska's Contempt and Demonlord Belzenok. I gave him the Vraska's Contempt because my best out at that point was topdecking March, which isn't answered by Contempt. Immediately afterwards, I realized that since he's at 1 life, he can't cast the Demonlord.

I lost in embarrassing fashion.

Question: is it more common for one mistake to lead to another, or is it more common to make a mistake but be able to recover?

He misplayed too if he transformed his Map before you targeted it.

I make misplays all the time. I write them down and learn to avoid them next time. Over the last few months, the amount of misplays has gone down significantly this way, but only if I'm well focussed and not sleepy, in which case I best not play at all.

Yeah, but my misplay was much more severe.

I find that I spend a lot of time playing on autopilot, making mistakes which could've been avoided with just a few seconds of thought. But I was asking about something else in this thread, whether you find that one misplay leads to another. I definitely get that feeling, such that if I make these mistakes one game, I just stop playing for the day.

Misplays tend to lead into misplays, a common one is someone makes a mistake, and then doubles down to keep that mistake a secret.

i.e You tap out for a spell, and the opponent then syncopate's it for 1, when they had a land in hand they could've played before casting it.

They tilt, and decide to not play that land second main phase because then their opponent would "see" that they made that mistake, because it feels less bad to make two "hidden" misplays then one "visible" one

Can't tell you how many times I've done that in Limited with haste creatures. I like to play everything second main phase if I can. I glance at my hand and mistake a hasty for something without because I'm not so familiar with the creature and lose out that turn. I've also done that same exact thing with Syncopate but I'm not too proud to throw that land out afterward.
Misplays happen to the best of us and sometimes when we are intimately dedicated to the deck we are using and play it on "autopilot".
