Yeah, auras are mostly considered bad cards that only beginners play for you get 2-for-1ed so easily. But then you lose to such a "beginner" and rage at your screen :)

I see that Benalia is great in a Knights deck for it hits every creature and not just those two it has created. Talking Constructed context here.

History also has a great upside in playing a Marshal next turn (and another the turn after maybe).

I'm having trouble finding meaningful things to do before hitting 4 mana, what are the good low cost commons I want to maindeck?

I must say that the best results I get In Dominaria draft are with incredibly janky 4 color decks that somehow end working absurdly well

For example, look at the convoluted disaster I'm playing right now (plus a Divest that doesn't show, as usual):

Image

Yes, the power level is certainly there, but sweet jesus, the mana...with basically no fixing, besides a Song of Freyalise...

Trick question: What's better than the classic On Serra's Wings on a turtle? Slamming it in Traxos with Shalai at its side (Yargle is ok too) :king:

I drafted with Traxos and Time of Ice the other day. The On Serra's Wings on a Traxos makes it a **** tank. Life-gaining machine that it hard to kill. I liked it so much I'm trying to make a standard-viable deck based on the concept.

Also, hi forum.

Problem with combos like that in constructed is that opponents will have removal, and you get 2-for-1'ed if that happens. I'm not a believer unless you're playing a Bogle-esque strategy with hexproof creatures.

@callmemaggit, what record did you reach? I'm surprised you didn't mana screw, because it looks so shaky. 7 black sources isn't enough for a main color - I tend to require at least eight sources, and that's cutting it close. Amaranthine Wall seems scarcely playable also. Song is great though. I just played a game against Saproling Migration turn 2 into Song turn 3, and it was genuinely scary. I barely pulled out a win: with opponent threatening lethal, I managed to play Arvad. That was still barely enough - I needed opponent to have nothing since if he attacked with everything I'd survive with only one life. But he did have nothing and topdecked a land ... and I won.

7-2 with this deck!

1 x Sparring Construct

3 x Ghitu Chronicler
1 x Frenzied Rage
1 x Shield of the Realm

2 x Valduk, Keeper of the Flame
1 x Sergeant-at-Arms
1 x Skittering Surveyor
2 x Dub
2 x Fight with Fire

1 x Shalai, Voice of Plenty
1 x Aven Sentry
1 x Teshar, Acolyte's Disciple
1 x Baird, Steward of Argive

2 x Fiery Intervention
1 x Blessed Light
1 x Tiana, Ship's Caretaker
1 x Arvad the Cursed

1 x Swamp
1 x Memory to Glory
7 x Plains
8 x Mountains

I actually got one Ghitu Chronicler around 3rd pick from last. It was amazing since I'd play almost any number of that card if I had half the array of spells I did in this game. Do others really not value it much?

Skittering Surveyor was the LVP since it was literally never drawn except for one game when I was one turn from dying but would've won if I topdecked an untapped land because I'd have the mana to kick Fight with Fire. Thanks, Skittering Surveyor! Otherwise the deck worked quite well. It was fun beating an opponent who had a hand full of auras and tricks but no creatures because I killed all of them. There's a price to trying to cheeze the opponent out. Granted I'm doing that too with my auras, but I did have two Valduk, and cards like Ghitu Chronicler and Sparring Construct can carry auras without much fear of getting 2-for-1'ed. Still, Frenzied Rage was mediocre and never mattered. Dub did, however (first strike is a big deal).

Not sure if Sparring Construct was the right choice here; I had plenty of other playable 2- and 3-drops (various bears, Keldon Overseer). I played Construct because of Teshar, and because it didn't seem like I needed offense, only defense until my powerful suite of removal eventually takes over.

7-2 again with this pile:

2 x Fungal Infection

1 x Cabal Evangel
1 x Caligo Skin-Witch
1 x Ghitu Chronicler
1 x Bloodstone Goblin
1 x Vicious Offering

1 x Deathbloom Thallid
1 x Skittering Surveyor
1 x Soul Salvage

2 x Rampaging Cyclops
1 x Whisper, Blood Liturgist
1 x Two-Headed Giant
1 x Dark Bargain
1 x Settle the Score
1 x Eviscerate

1 x Fiery Intervention
1 x Siege-Gang Commander
1 x Garna, the Bloodflame

1 x Darigaaz Reincarnated
1 x Torgaar, Famine Incarnate

1 x Memorial to Folly
1 x Forest
8 x Mountain
8 x Swamp

Either I'm getting better or the bronze-silver bracket players aren't that good. In support of the former is the fact that I think this is a good deck, and I've drafted two good decks in a row. If the latter is true, then the honeymoon should be over soon since I'm gold now. I also got lucky: one opponent flat out misclicked his Soul Salvage against me, returning nothing. I might still have won the game, but I'd have been forced to discard Darigaaz and the forest.

Siege-Gang was the unquestioned MVP. The card is just so good. Chump blockers when you need it, Shocks when you don't (I killed so many creatures with the ability, up to the 5-mana Windgrace Acolyte!), and it even produces bodies to sacrifice to Torgaar. Darigaaz might have been my top end but he was rarely relevant; meanwhile recurring Siege-Gang won me several games. 10/10 would draft the card again.

I just want to share that I just won a game against someone who drafted two Multanis.

I'd be surprised if they were still playing the same deck five days later, but maybe!

Yeah this is true. I put in damping sphere and a lot of board clears and tried to make it as close to a stax deck as is possible in standard. The deck seems to do alright.

I kinda feel like I'm starting to tire of MTG Arena. Maybe it's the current meta, maybe it's the fact that we're only allowed cards from standard rotation, or maybe it's just that I miss the nuance of paper magic. I dug up my old cards the other day and started getting nostalgic for Invasion block, where I cut my teeth on the game. It's crazy how weak the mechanics are compared to then. Sure, fewer broken decks I guess, but it kinda feels like I'm playing magic on training wheels.
