What if they found a way of, say, teleporting the baby out of Scar? Which wouldn't be weird... at all... :paranoid:

Suddenly, one of the kids called through the window from outside. "Miss Red, why is there a baby centaur in the acridian trough?"

EDIT: What are your ships?

Hmm, so far, the Autumn Crane, the Blazing Star, the Mourning Reign...

I mean, beyond the already established couples, which romantic pairs of M:EM characters do you find interesting or you'd just want to read about? The answer doesn't have to involve your characters, and I'm not talking about "there might have been something once", like with Nasina and Nasperge.

Oh.

To answer honestly, I really haven't thought about it much. There was a time I had sort of considered Daneera+Denner, but even by the end of The War of the Wheel, and long before I conceived of Kerik, I had decided that didn't really work. I could get behind an Ellia+Raiker ship; I've thought of that as a possibility before. If shipping referred to platonic friendship, I'd be all about a Gale/Daneera, and it could maybe work as an actual ship. Maybe Ilyta+The Historian could have worked as a severe age mismatch, so maybe if he ever stops doing the Time Warp again...

I think this one has been brought up before, but I would ship Kahr/Jinsen, potentially. Jinsen seems fairly asexual these days, although he was married at one point and does, in fact, have a son, so this one might be dead in the water.

Raiker+Kimberley. Now Ruwin's mad at me...

I could see Lumina+Raef. Maybe Orida+Renn? Assuming Renn gets away from Vasilias, of course.

Shifter+Duchess. Now Barinellos isn't talking to me...

Sava Pith+Donagut could work in a weird way, but I don't think either of them would stick around the relationship for long. The Smart Ass in me wanted to say Ygraine/Maral, but probably not.

Hush+Chardis and Hush/Syl. Now Orcish is going to kill me...

Raef is a beefcake.

No, my revenge is in planting the image of a dead inside living flesh mannequin in bed with a protean, and probably be-tentacled, lothario in your head.
You're welcome.

Have they gone full Device on Scar? Poor girl.

I should have expected that

Shipping usually involves romance, though Homestucks borrowed terms for things like "platonic life mates" and "erotic arch-rivalry" from an alien culture so it's not so clean cut nowadays.

Huh. I certainly can see the Kahr part; as you say, Jinsen's current behavior doesn't seem too open to romantic options.

Are we still talking about romance? Isn't Renn pretty young, mentally speaking?

I can see that; there are things that are not made to last.

You're doing this on purpose, aren't you. And I have just talked about erotic rivalry...

Indeed. And I understand that he has a very big...uh...sword.

Well, I can't stay mad at someone who uses the term "be-tentacled."

Yeah, I couldn't not.

Also, although I am the very pinnacle and paragon of humility, I have to admit that the Mourning Reign is the greatest name for anything ever, so I like bringing it up when I can.

:D

Huh. I certainly can see the Kahr part; as you say, Jinsen's current behavior doesn't seem too open to romantic options.

To be fair, Kahr develops a crush on most guys he hangs around with for any length of time. Fisco escaped his attentions, and I don't think he ever really hit on Antine, though he might have. So if Kahr were to hang out with Jinsen, he'd probably be into a ship with him.

Maybe. I've always pictured him as being between 18-20, but rereading the dossier just now, I might be wrong about that.

Yes...

The Raiker+Kimberley one is a reference to a Gauntlet story I wrote a while back, for which Ruwin grounded me...

To misappropriate an internet meme, "I would put them on a boat," which I have just now decided is the platonic version of "I ship them." And we do know that Gale is sensitive to the distinction between ships and boats!

Hush+Chardis and Hush/Syl. Now Orcish is going to kill me...

Well, without knowing precisely what Syl and Chardis are into, I would have to worry that Hush-Hush's symmetrical patterns of movement might cause some bedroom difficulties... :takei:

Does anyone else feel that if Keeper were still around, we'd have about a 92% chance of having this story written?

For all we know, it already exists.

Kidding aside for a second, Syl & Chardis/Hush-Hush is maybe number one on my list of "oh, God, I hope they never, ever meet" M:EM encounters, because, whenever I even think about it, I just have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that Syl & Chardis would try to separate the husher twins, as some sick sort of game to see what would happen to them when they're cut off from each other.

Something like the scene in "3:15 to Dayko," only worse. Which is saying something, since that was already bad enough.

Boom!
Doing some necromancy in here.

This one is for Morgezka:

If, in your travels, you came across a place breeding dragons, and in general treating them not unlike livestock, how would you feel about such a place and the many baby dragons being reared and raised there?

Morgezka: "That depends. Did the dragons say no? Does that sound cruel? Well, guess what. The Multiverse is cruel. And dragons? Dragons are the cruelest of all." Sigh. "Alright, look. All dragons are beasts, alright? Some are nothing more and don't deserve any better treatment. The ones who can talk, though? Think? Reason? Don't lock them up. Don't try to put them in pens and milk them like cows. Oh, its not that they deserve any better. They don't. But they will burn you. Maybe you, maybe your child or your grandchild or your great grandchild, but you will get burned. And you'll have no one to blame but yourself."

* * *
So...Morgezka hates dragons. When she was a planeswalker, she would use the form to hunt and sometimes to fight, but she spent most of her time in human form. Ever since the Mending, she is no longer able to transform, and it kind of drives her nuts. For the record, she doesn't view herself as "better" than other dragons, but she does consider herself fundamentally "different" from them. While she is not in denial and knows perfectly well that she is, by species, a dragon, she doesn't really associate herself with dragonhood.

Thanks for the question!

Hey, Raven!

Quick question. Does the M:EM High School exist in America or on some random plane, or what? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello!

The M:EM Highschool thread is extremely off-canon, so it can basically exist anywhere that you want it to. If there were some reason for it to be located in America, I suppose it could, but I mostly just think that it exists, and it's not really vital to know or even think about where. Clearly, there have been references to pop culture things like popular songs and TV shows, but the whole thing is just meant to be fun.

Thanks for asking!

OK, I love everything about this question, and questioner. I'm definitely imagining "A & B" carved inside a heart on a picnic table in the schoolyard (although I'm imagining that it was either "J" or "D" who actually did it, since I can't imagine that "A" would ever agree to vandalize school property, or to bring a knife onto campus...), and then I'm imagining a certain "T" snickering as she carves something totally unprintable beneath it...

For lack of a better way of putting it, I sort of imagine that M:EM High School exists in a weird sort of pocket plane within the M:EM multiverse in the same way that Wayside School sort of exists in a weird sort of pocket plane within our universe, and that its denizens are sort of vaguely self-aware of all the other worlds which exist out there, including ours. :D

I now have this wonderful image of Beryl wanting to carve their initials into a tree, and Aloise insisting that they shouldn't hurt a tree. Then, new student Oleetaka overhears them and walks up, offering to use his magic to carve their initials into a tree without hurting it.

I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with the Wayside School, but basically this. More than anything, it's just a setting where pretty much anything goes.

:D

I love that Aloise even has (non-canon) form for this, since I wrote that little Christmas fic where she objected to cutting down a perfectly-good tree just so that you could decorate it. :D

Are there authors Raiker respects? I don't think he considers anyone his peer, but maybe a class of people close enough to his that they're worthy of note?

I suspect that there are. I often play up Raiker's arrogance, but I suspect that, like most poets and writers, he probably reads a great deal. For one thing, when he shows up on a new plane, he needs to get some sense of the predominant style of poetry and writing, so I imagine that in his "down time," Raiker is an avid reader. And while I don't think he puts anyone on his own level, I imagine that there are some that draw a degree of praise from. I can see Raiker saying things like:

"_____ is a fantastic poet. Pity about the sense of scoop, though."

or

"_____'s use of language is sublime. If only they would turn their attentions to the tragic."

or

"Truly, _____ could have been the greatest poet in history, if not for the existence of Raiker Venn."

There are also, potentially, several ancient writers from Raiker's early days as a 'walker, thousands of years ago, who Raiker would possibly consider as influencers on his own work. Of course, there's a small part of me that sort of wants to say that he claims to have invented poetry, but I honestly don't think he would. After all, why would you need to invent something when you can perfect it?

:)

Thanks for asking!
