Okay so as a strictly ftp player I have no illusions about getting to a Tier 1 deck. All the same there is fun to be had and some originality at least in putting a) a quest deck to knock out a particular colour specific quest in particular if it’s a 750g variety, or b) tweaking and tuning your best decks with some new cards or converting your wildcards.

Some times you can luck out with a build where it can just curve beautifully and you know in that moment it would arguably have always been good enough in that particular matchup. If it works it can work very well.

At times though a Good Game from opponent and reciprocated can be a nice touch after a decent and close battle.

Then of course there are other matches when the first four or so turns are played and the board state (on the surface) seems even. It can be a surprise then to get a good game, thinking that you have a decent turn lined up only to have an OP turn by opponent using all his mana and activating synergies in the board state that ends in effectively an OP finish. Is the good game here a gloat or a genuine message from opponent saying good try but your deck can never match the perfect build of this one.

Then again these are matches played around the bronze tier 3 so who is fooling who here?

The match making is still a puzzle. It’s good though that a decent Tier 2 can show it’s merits. But all decks have a weakness or just plain bad luck in the draws.

They are talking about updating the emotes - I wonder ... the arguement is you can always turn them off.

What’s other MtG Arena’s experience with an opponents use of emotes, the good the bad and the ugly. In general most players use it to be friendly with a Hello! At start or good game after a decent matchup. SD

Need moor and moor extensive emotes.
Honestly you all know my thoughts. I'd like full on voice chat but barring that I would definitely like a better way to communicate with my opponent.

People who say "good game" more than 5 seconds before fatal damage are human garbage.

What I miss the most, is a "thanks" to respond adequately to "nice". I just give the "nice" back in those cases.

Next thing I need is a "golf-clap". But that's pretty much the reason why there are only those shallow options. I'd prefer actual chat, no voice though. It doesn't get used 9/10 games anyway.

On "good game", imo that right belongs to the loser and he must concede within seconds after saying so. A winner can't define whether it's been a good game for both sides. And saying that without conceding after is poor sportsmanship. Especially those tools who say so holding back a surprise blocker or something.

Lol I love how video game emotes can tilt people. Used to abuse this in Jearthstone and now do it a bit in Prominence poker. Hit a two outer on the turn that will knock out a guy from a tournament and my character sets waving goodbye, lol

The only emote I want is some kind of "Oh No" when I think I am doing well and the opponent answers my bomb. I could say "Nice" but that's not really what I want to say.

Some people even try to use the "Good game" with 4 open white mana to make you do an all out attack, then casting Settle the Wreckage... don't fall for it!

I do that at times, mainly when it has been a good hard fought game and we both know the game is over. I do it early because too many times they quit before I get a chance to say it because they can read the boardstate as well as I can. I also will pause the game when losing to say good game.

The only one that really annoyed me was a guy that was playing RDW on the play with a great draw that constantly spammed "Good Game" from T1 on. I had a poor draw, so I agreed the first few times, but then it just got annoying.

I mute anyone who starts emoting more than the bare minimum.
Thanks emote would be nice.
But I think that emoting with your avatar's voice would be nice.

Eh for me I'm in it for the long run. I want to have voice chat available. It's not for everyone and I wouldn't just have it on by default. The game itself is social and I can only play in a sterile environment for so long. Even in what we have coming up in the near future I would want it available. Tournament time and there's a lot of you I haven't met yet. I'm a fairly interesting person and like to have a joke or two, discussion about maybe why you did what you did. good to meet you, good game in the tournaments they way we used to.
Then of course if they get their act together and add multiplayer.
I've met a lot of cool people through this game and only know them from that and quite frankly, I miss hanging out with all of them on a Thursday Night Throwdown.
Whatever. All I know is I'm getting too damn old to be sitting here doing this against only a screen and a name.
So fill up another tankard, I'm going in!

- I'd like a "sorry about that" emote (e.g. for if my opponent mana screws)
- Would like voiced emotes, ala Hearthstone.

That's about it.

About mute, does the game notify you when you're muted?

Don't think it does, at least I've never seen a "you've been muted" message. But then I don't emote all that much and you can have mute on by default anyway.

I figure that if the game told you "your muted" people would spam that for negative reasons.

About chat/voice options. I guess that with people on your friends list, it would be really nice (although using a 3rd party app for that is always possible), but I'm not sure I really what to hear what most of the net-decking rabble I play against has to say most of the time.
I estimate that 90% of it would just be salt anyway.

Indeed. I wouldn't plug in my headset unless it was someone I knew. I miss it though. Sixty and I would play games at some times almost every night of the week. I remember him telling me that he got that part in SWAT. **** like that is cool to me. I like meeting people, once in a while, from somewhere different.
During the TNT's I'd get a chance to talk to Neb, DJ, Karstan, Tripp, Gomer, Gemini, Garren... even Splattercat once in a while... and Hakeem once. The whole group. Banter like that is what I miss.
Oh Jesus, I really miss this one guy's incredibly thick Scottish accent. Cannot believe his name is escaping me at the moment.
