I for 1 don't have a single sideboard for any of my decks, as I'm more focused on getting the cards for the main deck and I happen to enjoy best-of-1 (especially due to time constraints).

I get that people feel that real competitive magic is best-of-3 with sideboards, but the fact is that direct challenge isn't going to support that for now.
We could do it the duels way for a full blown showdown, but king of the hill seems to me like it could perfectly be best-of-1 or best-of-3 with whatever deck you choose for every game.
It's still gonna be rough without a friend or chat system in-game to arrange matches with people in other timezones. We may have to use steam or discord or some other app to communicate amongst ourselves and set-up games anyway.
I also get the feeling that as soon as we get organised play up and running, these forums are gonna be flooded with new users (or old users returning) because that was a big attraction during the duels era.

I'm game for whatever, but Bo1 seems pretty sporadic, so I'd prefer the Bo3, take whatever deck each time if those are the two options. I know boarding might be cumbersome, but I like the option to board.

I also prefer to play Bo3 with SB, luck is never on my side with the randomness of Bo1. Even though the direct challenge is set up for single matches, it shouldn't be too hard to just edit in your SB for match 2 and 3 if needed, then connect again.

You might be right. I've been pointing people from the Discord channel over here for a few months now and action is starting to pick up. At least older member are posting again.
I like the Discord but you can't have a meaningful conversation or analysis worth a crap that doesn't get buried in two minutes or less.

So it looks like we mostly prefer bo3 and sideboards. The easy (I think) way to do sideboards is to stream. I still need to look into how difficult or not that would be.
The idea of 3 decks in 3 games like in the old koth playoffs should be its own hill, rather than the norm. I think it would be better as a best of 5 as well.

I like the 3 hills idea, but I remember that on iOs the wheel was rather slow, we should figure out a way for the king to be able to toggle the wheel faster and also a way for the current king to pass the turn if he/she is unable to play the matches.
I think we should take a look at the rules for possible changes.

B03 with sideboards sounds fun!

Maybe the number of hills should scale with the number of unique players. It would need a system for choosing variants beyond regular magic as hills come or go.

It worked quite all right when Flaky was running our beloved Brake the Card contest.

Rules are right on the spot IMO
Just needs to clarify the sideboard part and the streaming clause.
I cant belive Barney pull a 10 win streak! That’s amazing!

Maybe the multi-hills can be organised based on time zone. It can be hard at times to organise games due to time difference

Hey fellas,

coming back out of lurk mode and found this thread. Awesome you guys have already started making tourney plans. :cool:

A certain Mr. Kryder and I are currently gathering ideas for a community tournament as well.
Setup would be similar to what we did in the Duels days with Steam Showdown and Xbox Fight Club.
In other words: Standard, Bo3 with sideboards, swiss rounds, top8. Nothing set in stone though.

At the moment I'm trying to find out

1) if you good folks of NGA would be interested in participating (what I read so far sounds promising)
2) if there are people here who would like to join the organization team (Yes, I'm looking at you, Cucho.

)

Of course everything depends on when Wizards implements direct challenges, so I can't give you a fixed date yet.
But as soon as I have more details for you, I'll make sure to post it here.

Questions, feedback, suggestions -- as always very welcome! Also, don't hesitate to contact me via PM.

Time zones are always an issue especially during week work days. I'm US Central and with my work I'm normally in bed by 10pm latest and up at 5 or 6 latest. Exception for rain day today. I'm up but my job just got cancelled.

Problem is that I'm an early bird but I don't play in the mornings. I give myself app. 45 to get up, have coffee, usually check here and FB while having coffee and then I'm out the door to work.
Weekends are mostly cool. I work most Saturdays but memory serving correctly I did most all my tournament games against Euro and EA players on the weekends. Long as we have a week limit to get in a round I'm cool. Plus, this place is already picking up again. I predict that once we get some tournaments going we will pick up a lot, when the game is out of beta and on Mac it will really start picking up and if WOTC does not do a head in the bum putting in and releases this on consoles and tablet this place will REALLY be hopping again. Bunch more players in the States then again.
The format system is by far superior to Discord with a highly detailed game like this. Can't have a discussion worth a **** over there that isn't buried immediately and there's no way you could successfully run a tournament as far as I can see.

I meant discord for the organization part of the tourney, when we run the second iOs tourney we run it 90% on discord and I could not say it was a bad idea, but I prefer the forum format all the way, discord is amazing for project management but it is way to volatile, and I kinda like leaving something for Barney’s necromancy acts.
