I recently had some internet issues and couldn't play online. I ended up revisiting story mode, and played every mission from beginning to end. There were some really fun decks I had completely forgotten about - and it's cool playing with cards that aren't available for personal deckbuilding.

Some notibles:

The mission where you play as Tezzeret vs Liliana. It's a fun artifact deck that can be really aggressive with the right draws. The 2 mana 0/1 flying artifact that pumps +2/+2 when artifacts enter play, plus 2 different artifact lords is a blast.

The mission where you're Chandra and Gideon playing against Tezzeret - opp starts out with a trigger that puts the 4 mana blue enchantment (that draws card when artifact deals combat damage to player and spawns a thopter each turn if artifact is in play) around T3 - and you have triggers that put Gideon and Chandra out at different points is fun too. Love that it has the red and white titans in the deck.

The mission that has you fighting as gatewatch vs Ulamog. The deck has a crappy curve (too many 6+ CMC spells in the deck), but the fact superfiends come out on certain turns for free and that your starting hand perfectly curves out through T3 with oaths makes it enjoyable.

Rhonas' mission has maybe my favorite deck in the game. Rampant Growths are the ramp spells we needed to build legit ramp decks in duels, IMHO.

Surprisingly, I thought the Origins missions were the most difficult. You play with some really garbage decks there. One of the early Liliana missions has you playing a deck that's so underpowered you just lose if you don't draw the perfect sequence of cards. Some of those decks were hella frustrating.


What are your thoughts on story mode? Any missions with decks you really enjoy and/or cards that you wish had made it into our cardpool?

I haven't played that in forever...

Every once in a while i will re-watch the animated vids under settings. My favorite is Kytheon losing all his buddies and going full Gideon.

Aside from occasionally playing the Rhonas level because I like that deck, I hadn't played any others since they came out. Playing them all again reminded me there were a few other fun decks there too. Just wish the competition was better, lol

I don't think I've ever seen the animated videos. I'll have to check that out
