Yeah, I'm having alot of success with just generic green ramp. I'm running GB where my only synergy is "black had my bombs" and green gets me a ton of mana stupid fast.

Having done four UB drafts in a row between this and M19, I figured it was time to soft force a different color pair to make sure I wasn't inadvertently forcing UB. Half worked here, probably should've ended up GU with all the Cloudreader Sphinxes and interaction I saw go by. Can't complain with a 6-3 though. One Opp would've stabilized at 10 after deploying a couple beefy blockers, but Thorn Elemental with Run Amok shut that down in a hurry.

Finally had the time to draft again, been itching to get back to Dominaria draft last few days, been quite jelly seeing people post here :D

First draft seemed to go well, was happy with a pretty decent BW deck, and then I got crushed by a wall of flyers. A super fast 0/3, just wrecked by djinns and sphinxes and drakes - I had good removal too. Second draft I was hoping to maybe go UW just to avoid a repeat, but it was BW that was open so I drafted pretty much the same deck - less removal, better creatures. Wasn't the smoothest deck ever but it got the 7-2. I'm starting to think I'm a 7-2 specialist, been a while since I got a better result, thankfully it doesn't matter for the rewards :D

Well done - I went through like 5 drafts and failed to go better than 5-3 in any of them. The last one was especially embarrassing. I first picked Adeliz and was like "okay I'm going to draft the Wizards deck" except I just wasn't seeing Wizards. Half of me wanted to start drafting some other cards, but each time I did it I'd get passed some Wizards staple that the other half of me would grab . End result, one totally unplayable deck and no surprises I went 0-3. Now I'm out of gems and coins to draft :( Oh well.

Using a draft simulator, I notice that quite a lot I can't make up my mind on what to draft. I'd settle into two colors and then get passed some extremely powerful card like Tatvoya. Under what circumstances is a splash workable? Are 3-color decks a real possibility in draft? Is Navigator's Compass playable? I tried using it to fix my mana some of my drafts, it did what it was supposed to do sometimes and occasionally the +3 life is also very useful. On the other hand it's only good for mana fixing, and doesn't even ramp. If the Compass isn't playable, what (other than the rare lands & Grow from the Ashes) can possibly enable splashes?

I'm quite partial to splashing in Dominaria, more so if I'm base green, though maybe I'm a bit too partial to it sometimes (especially sultai, just can't resist sultai). I've also taken Tatyova half way through pack 2 and abandoned a colour for it, the card is just so strong. Best card for splashing is Grow from the Ashes, I've run 3 of them and felt good about it. Personally I wouldn't play compass unless I was trying some 4 colour jank, but at the point where compass starts looking good I'd seriously reevaluate the deck I was making :D

Had Slimefoot and four saprolings down to my opponent's four X/2s. He stole Slimefoot with Clutches and swung the others in. Blessed Light to destroy Clutches, trade the saps for two of the creatures and Slimefoot eats another one. Gained one life and Opp lost four life and three creatures in the exchange :D

Wish the common removal was always this good for limited.

Yay another two 7 wins!
I´m feeling a lot more confident in DOM this time around, I even build a 4 color pile with 2 skittering surveyor, and one Grow from the Ashes to fix, that pile was amazing I again failed to take the snapshot but I look something like this:
2 x Skitering surveyor
1 x Grow from the ashes
3 x Deathbloom Thallid
1 x Yavimaya Sapherd
3 x Vicious Offering
1 x Settle the Score
1 x Aryel, Knight of Windgrace
1 x Tatyova, Benthic Druid
1 x Grunn, the Lonely King
1 x Urgoros, the Empty One
1 x Thallid Omnivore
1 x The Eldest Reborn
2 x Fungal Infection
1 x Mammoth Spider
1 x Wild Onslaught
1 x Cabal Evangel

Image

Vicious Offering is such a great card, I agree completely DCG the removal on this set is amazing.
The other pile was this:

Both decks just rode the value train for the win. Deathbloom Thallid, for instance, is such a great blocker it most times trades up and then leaves another body to block again... that sucks for aggro. Also, I´m amazed by how many games start:
T1 land go, Opponent same
T2 land go, Opponent the same
first spell T3.

I did see a couple close to the ground decks but those just could not end the game fast enough.

I know I keep saying it but I'm going to do some drafting. Never have before. In a 40 card deck what is the suggested amount of land? I can't remember how many I was running in my 2014 Sealed decks. More than likely around what I would want in draft it seems. I built some really strong Sealed decks so I'm hoping I'll be pretty good at Draft also.

17 is perfect. You can easily go 18 if you need to as well. 16 is possible with a low CMC deck. But i always aim at 17.

When Arena comes to console, I plan on doing mostly draft i think

In Dom 18 is a good number, if you run mana dorks 17. This set is slow and the end game needs tons of mana.
Also, try sticking to the suktai colors if you don’t get a huge bomb in White or Red.
Mana fixing is King and splashing is a common practice.

i can;t believe you won 7 games with a 4 colour deck in draft. That seems nuts to me

I was thinking the same thing after I removed it. I can't edit my deck now can I?

Deathbloom Thallid is one of the best 3 drops in the set as well, I'd be running that 100%

Cool!!
It was mistake straight out but I didn't think I could get it back in.
Thanks.
Still stuck at two games. May hop on and play another in a minute. It's so hard to get my ass inside in the summer as I'm sitting out under my shade tree reading the MTG novel Dissention.
Far Out!!

I agree. I think I removed it thinking it was the thalid or something like that that's a tutor for Legendary I think.
Like I said this is literally my first Draft deck ever.
Thanks for the heads up.
