Permanents you control that entered the battlefield this turn have hexproof.

I read this as "Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, it gains hexproof until the beginning of your next turn." Like I know that's not at all what it says upon reading it more carefully, but that was how I initially grokked the effect while reading the card. Now I'm upset the hexproof doesn't last through their turn.

It's still a really awesome card from a designer's perspective, I just don't see it affecting gameplay all that much. Maybe if it made them uncounterable as well?

I actually kind of like the intended function of that version, but having it be a triggered ability allows the opponent to get around the hexproof pretty easily. Using Rush's wording would work, to my knowledge, but I hate having to reference summoning sickness.

Why not just 'this or last turn.' I mean I know it doesn't work well with flash but that doesn't seem that big a deal.

Time to wrap up this very long week.

Orborax, Mind of the Swarm

Legendary Creature -- Elemental Insect (M)
At the beginning of each player’s upkeep, that player sacrifices a non-Insect creature. If they do, that player creates two 1/1 green Insect creature tokens.
Oborax, Mind of the Swarm’s power and toughness are equal to the number of Insects you control.
Its mind buzzes with countless thoughts.
*/*

It's another tribal commander, if you want to take it that direction. But I like that there's a completely different non-tribal direction you can take that might be just as effective.

Just a dragon.

Spellkite Hunter

Creature -- Dragon (M)
Flying
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, if Spellkite Hunter is attacking, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Even the beasts of Velithor are adept in the use of magic.

Neat card, but why even reference sorcery spells? They're rarely gonna interact and opening that possibility causes more confusion than it creates opportunity. Cool design regardless.

As a Johnny, mentioning that copying a sorcery during combat is possible is a challenge that I want to take on. I like that it's there, and it's flavorful that the Hunter would be able to copy any spell, even if some wouldn't logically be able to be cast when he copies them most of the time.

Basically what Q said. It would feel weird not to include sorceries, though you'd only be able to cast them with something like Vedalken Orrery. It's two extra words that add no complexity but a lot of possibilities.

Perhaps it might confuse newbies into thinking that you can cast sorceries during combat.

It seems unnecessary to me. Cool interactions are great for the game, but going out of the way to create them seems gaudy when a cleaner version of the card lends itself to plenty of fun gameplay already. It's not the biggest deal either way, but for me it detracts from an otherwise beautiful card.

Concoction Cauldron

Artifact (R)
, : Exile the top two cards of your library. If those cards share a color, draw a card. If they share a card type, gain 4 life. If they share a converted mana cost, add six mana of any one color. If they share a name, untap Concoction Cauldron.

I have a soft spot for goofy build-around-me artifacts.

Does that allow anything worse than Thrumming Stone already does?

I guess you could run both.

I wasn't really saying it would break the meta in half. I was just saying, you know, it'd make for an awesome game at the kitchen table.

Speaking of decks with 10 lands, I wish they'd reprint Land Grant. I forget who it was, but one of the main guys in R&D once remarked that this was his favorite card ever printed because it opened up entire archetypes of decks in a way that no other card at the time ever had.

Today I have a small twist on a Oblivion Ring variant.

Binding Array

Enchantment (U)
When Binding Array enters the battlefield, exile another target nonland permanent for as long as you control a permanent named Binding Array.
"As long as even one link of the great chain holds, we are safe."

Elusive Sasquatch

Creature -- Ape (R)
Trample
Elusive Sasquatch has hexproof and indestructible unless it has attacked or blocked this turn.
Getting a look at one is difficult; surviving the encounter, even more so.
6/6

I know this is a dumb card, but I have a soft spot for American cryptids, and this big guy is probably the most well-known of the lot. I might try cardifying more of them.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

Shakedown

Sorcery (U)
Look at target opponent’s hand and name a card there. That player reveals a card at random from his or her hand that hasn’t been revealed yet. If it’s the a card with the chosen name, they discard it. Otherwise, that player loses 1 life and repeat this process.
"I know you have it! Give it up!"

Happy Halloween! I hope all of your spooky exploits were fruitful.

Speaking of...

Grave Robber

Creature -- Human Rogue (U)
When Grave Robber enters the battlefield, exile target creature card from another player’s graveyard. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any type to cast that spell.
2/2

Hey, long time no see. Did you miss my dumb cards? Because I'm back with a really dumb one for you.

Dreadnought Forge

Artifact (M)
, Sacrifice any number of creatures with total power 12 or greater: Create a colorless 12/12 Dreadnought artifact creature token with trample.
It wasn't made for mass production, only mass destruction.

Render

A weakness of mine is that I'm not particularly good at designing for Johnnies. Is this a Johnny card? More interestingly, is it breakable?

Turn 1 this, Turn 2 Lightning Greaves, Turn 3 Phyrexian Soulgorger -> Invigorate -> equip Greaves -> swing -> sac to token -> equip Greaves ->... only one combat phase per turn

hold on turn 1 this, turn 2 Generator Servant… nope, i got nothin'

yeah if you can't break it with Invigorate idk what much you can do with it. i'm like the queen of high power-to-cost ratio creatures. Lupine Prototype and Sheltering Ancient are the other two smol big bois of note.

like obviously it combos with Phyrexian Dreadnought but you knew that already (i'd like to take this opportunity to thank Phyrexian Dreadnought for making Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and Varolz, the Scar-Striped viable in Commander)
