How come nobody plays it in standard? I can see why it doesn’t get the nod in mono red, but what about other Aggro concepts. Elves for example can do a t4 goldfish with that card as the top end.

Fleetwheel Cruiser gets straight up eaten by Chainwhirler and often Knight of Grace/Malice. Against mono green it trades with a 2 or 3 drop. It's just not a good 4 drop.

I don't think elf aggro is a thing either. Had a few looks at it, but it just seems so bad compared to R/B, Mono green, knight tribal or mono white angels. Not actually tested it mind, but looking at the cards I don't see how it hopes to compete. Thorn guy and Steel leaf are great mind, maybe after rotation it'll be in a better place but at the moment green stompy is the home for those two cards. Green stompy is very good though at least!

Forgot Chainwhirler has first strike, geez... that card is just too much. Wtf, lol!

As for whether or not it’s a good four drop, it’s currently getting vintage play, I’d say it’s pretty decent.

Nah, elf Aggro has a lot of things going for it. I’ve been toying around with it, and it’s very good. The synergy is there, I’m just looking for the obvious finish.

Mimic into Rishkar is a solid line, as is llanowar into steal leaf champ.

Yeah chainwhirler is obnoxious to play against. Being on the draw vs red with lanowar elf or an x/1 in hand just feels so bad and then it lets them trade a shock for a steel leaf. One of the reasons I'm liking the thorn guy in green stompy over the merfolk branchwalkers I used to run is that the new card dodges chainwhirler while quite often branchwalker would draw a land then die in fire.

Be interested if you can get elves to work, I've looked at it a bit but it seems so underwhelming compared to stompy. If you can grow your elves enough maybe Ghalta would be an option? Or if you can produce enough mana maybe banefire to close even.

edit - cruiser being in vintage means very little to standard - shops tries to stop the opponent from playing magic, the creatures just need to be artifacts that do damage. Brainstorm wouldn't be at it's best in standard :D

Yeah, all I meant is that it isn’t a bad card. I’m not trying to sell it in Chainwhirler Standard, lol... no sir, not doing that (well, not anymore... not after this conversation). Haha

Update: on second thought, any card that makes goblin Chainwhirler think twice about attacking is a good thing, we can’t attack, but they have to hold back or else we trade damage favorably. I’m still thinking Cruiser might be a good inclusion in Aggro decks.

Still wouldn't do great as Abrade still exists.

Better than if they hit some of the core synergy cards, imo. And worth it for the possibility of a t4 kill against the field.

Love this card

Hate that I only have two copies in Duels

I just have a feeling that there's probably better options for the decks in question. If you're green then Vine Mare or Bristling Hydra are harder to remove creatures that threaten a lot of damage depending on the shell. White just has a ton of evasive angels (that can later gain lifelink), with Shalai coming in at 4 mana and making your team and you hexproof. Black is all about the zombos at the moment. Merfolk and vamps are not great generally, and both have better things to do at 4 mana. Blue green climb probably values bristling hydra more since it can put a counter on itself - though maybe cruiser coming in and getting a climb counter straight away would be decent. Red has such good 4s that it's not even on the radar or straight up plays no 4 drops.

None of those cards put your opponent on a t4 clock. If you’re on the play you could kill blue (in the green shell) before they can even get enough mana to cast Settle. And the card survives fumigate or any other sweeper. I’d play this before many of the cards you listed. (Although I do love hydra)

The clock might need to be explained
T1 Llanowar Elf
T2 Steel Leaf Champion
T3 Fleetwheel Cruiser swing for 10
T4 any creature swing for lethal

Sure, green stompy goldfishes just as fast (e.g elf - steel leaf - heart+ghalta - creature and swing for 21) . The format is pretty resistant to that sort of thing though. U/W won't let you do that, red or fatal push decks probably kill the bird. It's nice to have a fast clock, but I'd always prefer hydra/vine mare/shalai over cruiser if the game isn't ending on turn 4. In stompy I run a one-of skyship, much slower than cruiser but it's an evasive repeatable ftk - seems much more useful.

In stompy? I don't think it's better than any of the cards already in the deck (or the sideboard for that matter). In the maindeck the only things that cost more than 3 are ghalta and flagship.

This is what I'm running atm, sorry for no tags just the mtga formatting:

Spoiler

Need some of the new pw but not got round to it yet. The number of harvesters change depending what I find myself running into.

This will sound crazy, but try cutting the green belt rampagers for Fleetwheel... your curve is too low for 24 mana in any case, imo. Don’t get me wrong, I love that card, but I bet you the deck performs even better. Also, I’d consider one less Heart of Kiran, but that’s purely personal taste.

I am aware that this is a tier one ish deck, so it’s just a thing to try. It may not work.

I try avoid adding Vehicles in a tribal build. You're playing lords and other payoffs that don't trigger on artifact creatures.

The only exception I would consider is skyboat or harvester because they are so good and both fly, most tribes don't have access to flying. I know Fleetwheel is great because it's a hasty scary 4 drop creature and for a very aggressive deck I can certainly see it being played. Most tribal decks want to go mid rangy.

White weeny, RDW, and maybe an aggressive artifact deck would be the only decks to look at it and RDW as mentioned is just packed to the gills with amazing 4 drops.

I haven't tried building elves yet, is it a fast deck?

Elves is fast, but it suffers from insufficient reasons to play elves. It’s good, but mid tier at best. And unfortunately mimic isn’t enough to justify elves (at this time). Clancaller is also not enough. The deck needs one more lord to make it worth playing.

That said, if you don’t insist on elves only, you can make a pretty sweet deck out of some of the cards.

I ran one copy of Fleetwheel Cruiser just now. It seemed like a reasonable aggro card from my experience in Duels, and I didn't have a good collection, so why not. Then after casting it a couple of times I started wondering "why the hell am I not running Chandra, Torch of Defiance or Hazoret the Fervent???" and removed it pronto.

I know you said maybe it could be used in a non-red deck, but still. The card's power level just isn't high enough.

Compared to Chandra or Hazy... lol, no way. Or rekindling Phoenix... or frankly a lot of other red options. But red doesn’t need haste, so Cruiser makes way less sense. Toss some black into the mix though, and maybe UDisintegration makes it worth it... /shrug doubtful, but even then I could see some synergistic reasons to consider it.
