Hi all.
I started playing with
Unhinged, and I frequented the old WotC forums starting with the
Unhinged and
Unglued forum, where I tried to help people come to a consensus about obscure
Un- rulings so I could be sure if my combo decks actually worked. Then I participated more and more in the proper Rules Issues forum, and I tried to pitch in at Rules Q&A sometimes. I participated in YMTC a few times, and I had some humble starts at trying to make custom sets, but I didn't share my work.
The Unhinged and Unglued forum was folded into Magic General. Several years after that, zammm's signature started featuring a link to this place, so I checked this place out every once in a while. Some years after that, the WotC forums shut down entirely. I saved the threads I wanted to remember, and I lurked here some more.
I've kept up with the rules forum here, but without a lot of in-depth rules debating going on, I haven't find a good way to settle in. I take it that goes on on the Judge's forum now? That's probably for the best; I was generally ignorant of what Judges have to deal with during real games, so I humored a lot of hypotheticals that were not an especially practical use of people's time.
It always seemed like a great use of my own time, because if there was a deck that hinged on a horrifyingly obscure ruling, I wanted to build it.
It's been fun to see some wacky mechanics make it into casual products with real Comprehensive Rules support, like the Conspiracy and Commander products.
If I theorized about
S.N.O.T. or
Yet Another Æther Vortex nowadays, the meld rules seem to be a good start. But... I sort of want to be past that kind of pedantry. Unless there are people who want to hear it, it's hardly worth it. And maybe there are, but I don't want to stir up my bad habits.
To say more about me outside of Magic, I'm a fan of comedy anime and interactive fiction, and I've built some programming languages for my personal use. My latest language is coming along really well, and I might start to implement a card game engine with it -- a dream I've carried since I played Monopoly and the Pokémon TCG as a kid, before I got into Magic. That's probably why I've got this place on my mind today.
It'd be nice to hang out here sometimes. Are there any subforums I should check out in particular? Surely there are some fans of convoluted combos and
Un- cards, or card game engine development?
