I do still own the game on PS3 (and possibly steam) but the tests wouldn't be what they should be. The 10 promo card codes don't work so I don't have access to the best cards for most of the decks.

I guess I was mis-remembering what AW was. I thought it was the G/B ramp deck. That must have been in 2012 or 2014. Now that I'm remembering correctly I do wanna say that AW was probably my favorite deck. It does deserve to be the 4th deck in A Tier, and not the top deck in B Tier. I still think it's the 5th best deck in the game though. GG>OD>SS=CW>AW.

But yes, if you're bouncing Thragtusk every turn, not many decks can deal with that. Only way is to remove it on-activation but you don't activate Portal if OD has 3 lands untapped. I actually see it the other way around. Boardwipes and targeted removal make Erratic Portal lose value. As long as I have mana untapped, you're not using the Portal.

I don't run Grisslebrand. He's to expensive for a deck that like OD. I ran 22, maybe 21 lands in my OD build. Probably capped out at 4CMC, maybe 3. Bouncing one zombie a turn is not a problem for my OD build as I'll recast it, and another zombie next turn.

But I'm not going to be bouncing anything if you're not removing it. At what point do you try to Murder Thragtusk? After he's dealt you 10 damage? 15? I'm happy to keep attacking with it if you're just going to continue leaving 3 mana untapped hoping I go to pick it up. And if it does manage to get killed, I'd probably go tutor up another one with Fauna Shaman or that 4-cost sorcery that puts any creature into play after sacking a dude, or play Eternal Witness to get it back. AW just has so many options, and so many ways to search for those options, it's stupid.

That's great when you have the option of playing each of those cards. I don't remember AW being quite that consistent.

We can go back and forth with scenarios regarding what counters what all day. The quick answer to your scenario is; block it with something that can kill it. That makes you decide on the bounce before I have to play removal

In my experience, it is that consistent, and it's the deck I play most out of all of them hands down.

And you're assuming you even have anything out to block it. If you're leaving 3 mana untapped every turn hoping I'll go to pick it up, when will you have time to play creatures that can block it? Idk. You're right, we can go back and forth all day, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Wanna do a best of 3? And then we can just spin for random decks after that if you want.

Thragtusk is a turn 5 play at best, T6 or T7 if you plan on having him protected by a Portal. Are you assuming that OD is just sitting there waiting on you to move before he does anything? Portal is a T4 play, so in order for you to have your combo ready, you had to take T4 off. You also telegraphed your next two turns, allowing me to prepare. Or, you think you're gonna trick me by playing Portal, after thragtusk, with untapped mana open, as if I haven't made that exact same play hundreds of times before. Either way, I have a free turn to do setup before I need to leave mana open and/or you're leaving Thragtusk unprotected for 1 turn.

I mean, I get it, AW was my favorite deck. It's just not as good as OD. Ask Devilwuster. I played that deck more than anything else back then and I'd defend it to the death against anything that isn't GG or OD.

I do like that you're realistic regarding your wins against SS and other decks. You should have seen the people we had around here and the mothership back when 2013 and 2014 were active. We had 1 specific guy that I can remember always quoting 90% win rates for all his decks. You're realistic numbers at least mean I'm having a conversation with a reasonable person.

The best was the guy who said his 20 land, 5 colour ramp decks winrate was amazing, when you discarded losses to mana screw.

No, not stevolution. Steve actually was a good player he was just hypersensitive.

It was that guy who changed his name a couple of times but always kept the same avatar. It was that creepy avatar of the, I guess you would call him, clean-cut, attractive dude, but it was real creepy because it was of him looking at you through a window, like he was stalking you at home. He had a girlfriend who was here first, but anytime we tried to explain why whatever she was attempting could be done better a different way she always freaked out like, "OMG you guys are just sexist. you guys don't let me have an opinion on anything" type of chicks. All the while ignoring anyone who agreed with her as if we were trying to "hook-up." Common or Uncommon something or other. It was a play on words using M:tG terms.

That was a little..... hmmmm.....
Barn, Shadowcran ran the most amazing 2300 card decks and could tell you how to play them successfully!
In real life Steveo is a game reviewer for a major eu mag. He wouldn't go as far as to tell me which one probably because I'm a "rube" from The States. He swore me to secrecy a long time ago but I think the statute of limitations has run out.
Sixty, you are talking about Mythic Uncommon and his wife I can't remember her name for the life of me know. If you remember we had her in our ffa playgroup for a little while. I got some 1v1's in with her. Damn if I can't remember her name. Quick search might do it.

Mythic Uncommon is guy with "The Avatar".

His wife was on the mothership as DroneOn, who was E Luxo So here on NGA for her brief tenure.

Yeah Mythic. He still comes around. I never had a problem with that guy. He just has one of those tinder box online présences that can ignite a thread.

Omg that talented artist guy who smoke bombed out of here the second he got some criticism. Good constructive kind too. No one denied the quality of the art. It was the humour style of the writing that needed some help and he was having none of it. Dammit, what a waste :(

Stevo had an insane sense of self importance. I wonder if it’s cuz he wrote for that magazine? I wrote for InQuest at one point and didn’t think I was anything special. Just a lucky player sometimes, that’s all

I'm not going to keep going with the back and forth scenarios. You think OD is better, I think AW is better, we're not changing each others' minds, so let's just put it to rest lol. All I was saying is that in my personal experience, I beat OD with AW far more often than I got beat by it. Maybe you experienced just the opposite. Bottom line is, there's no definitive answer without dozens/hundreds of games worth of data. I'm playing the matchup with Barney just for fun. A best of three isn't going to determine which one is better.

Barney, I'm ready whenever you are, so just hit me up with an invite whenever you get on. I always just closed my eyes and held the left stick for a few seconds and stopped randomly to get a random deck.

In the first game, when you laid that 9th land, and I was at 9 life left, I thought for sure you were going to play corrupt. I got pretty lucky you didn't have it lol. Second game we were both getting flooded, but I got lucky topdecks the last two draws. Good games Barn.

We then played M14 random v random and I lost every single game. First game I rolled Enter the Dracomancer, second game Bounce and Boon, then firewave against Mind Maze which should have been auto win with 1 drop lavamancer but wasn’t and then hunting season against Dodge and Burn. Ugh brutal

Meanwhile I hit 30-0 with Havens warriors (Boros) on Duels. I better stick with that :)
