We heard your feedback loud and clear. Starting with Dominaria on April 27, we will be returning to Friday Night Magic promos being nontoken cards from Standard-legal sets!

While the experiment with special premium tokens was aimed at fostering a fun, inclusive environment for Friday Night Magic, the real-world results did not match our expectations. That, coupled with the community's feedback, led us to change back.

Plus, we've got some cool cards coming up that look great as promos. We'll show them as we get closer to April 27.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in an thread with GM_Champion" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against AzureShade when card design is on the line!"

I am not surprised to here people didn't like the tokens (well, as much as real cards).

CotW is a method for ranking cards in increasing order of printability.

*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

One of the changes to FNM promos process internally was figuring out how to choose them later in the process. Combined with many of the play design changes, it should lead to more tier 1 cards, and fewer misses. #WOTCstaff
