Its the same guy than the last time we played with BZZT deck hilarious!
this time he doesent make mistakes... and we took a loose... 3-1
onto R5

lets start with Wintervoid
Same guy!! I guess this deck can handle this kind of aggro assault lets see...
I got Censor, 2x Reflectors, Nahiri and good mana so we got a good chance
we are driving him nuts! LOL
now comes the Displacer for extra giggles
At some point this guy thinks is not funny any more and concedes.. 4-1

One more with
Black Scrappy
R32 we got a decent hand lets see
**** this one is playing tokens and he´s got Harvester down... and I´m flooding big time 8 lands in the first 12 cards!
I kept a 4 lander coz 19 freaking lands!
I had the 2/1 1cmc guy, Scrappy, Key, and Never... he is destroying me with the harvester...
10 lands... 10 lands out of 15 cards I drew SNS.. awful lost! 3-2 BELETED

I gotta do some thing now.. catch you guys later!

Ok, trying Nomad’s list now. It plays fine vs AI but I’m leery of these ultra low to the ground builds. My experience with them is usually win fast or go home.

Game 1 vs R31 Sultai Control: Lose!
We got close... My opp did nothing for 4 turns and then played Bounty of the Luxa. Alas my starting hand was 3 land, 2 Push, Never, and Haunted. I topped a Reaver t2 so I got a few pecks in but my game didn’t start till t4 either. After he played Luxa I didn’t have anything better to do than play Bonepicker. I knew he was prolly about to sweep but figured it was better to take the chance and try to rush before Luxa gave him too much CA. He happily Languishes. I have Amalgam and the three removal spells and top Concoction. I play Concoction and pass. He plays big Lili, makes a token and plays Simic Nissa x=3 and scries. I use his attack step to Return Haunted (-Push and Amalgam) and Push the token. Next turn I Never Lili, and possibly misplay by killing Nissa (hard to say. She’s not the most impactful PW but in general I prefer to clear PWs unless I’m very close to lethal). He plays Herald of Anguish but I toss a land I drew last turn to Concoction before his eot effect. I top another land (which I hold for Haunted fodder) and swing big taking him to 7 and then play Return. He better draw good or I got him next turn. He plays little Lili, Murklurker, and Rec Sage and taked out my spirit token. I draw my other Amalgam and swing at him and he has just enough mana left over to Lifelink his Sage. He trades Sage for Haunted(?!) and blocks Amalgam. No net loss for him. Then he plays Tamiyo and Lili-shrinks Amalgam and lifelinks his Lurker. I wait for his combat step to activate Haunted but make the mistake of waiting for him to declare attackers first. He starts to but changes mind and it skips to his second main which he passes. I don’t have any opportunity to activate Haunted till his eot which is too late to bring the other Prized back! Dunno if it would have mattered much. At this point I need removal for Lurker but just draw more land. He draws and plays more creeps and I lose the ability to push damage through. I chicken out and quit the turn before he ults BOTH walkers.

Oof, that's rough. Nice effort but you should have taken a mulligan on that hand. No early creatures is suicide.

I had fun writing them (and reading them).

I especially like someone's take on their own deck (video or writeup). There's little things it seems like that aren't immediately obvious in just a few games. And fine yeah, when I started I fastforwarded through because I wanted to see the games with my deck :P. But I did watch most of the others in the end too and actually probably enjoyed watching other folks decks more - watching your own creation wither and die is more traumatic than I anticipated...particularly with Greenwarden clunking up the works (that first loss would've been an epic stomping with him as the 2nd rec sage and all the bounce).

Also, on deadbridge shaman, they made it pretty far along in my brew, I liked them quite a bit but ultimately the 3 slot was too crowded, with ralliers being the definites, a min of 1 rec sage (and on the ladder I think there's more than enough targets for these to be an absolute 2), and it was down to the flip walkers/trackers/shaman.

Actually now that I'm thinking about it, it's halfway to an elves deck now...and bouncing Shaman of the Pack/dwynen's elite/deadbridge/cultivator of blades all fit the concept....

The other one that I tried really hard to make was just SNS revolving around scrap trawler and ulvenwald mysteries, so consider yourselves lucky that you got the "competitive" list :)

Ok lets continue
Tesla fruits engine next to close R5
Vs Limbocentral R40 ... a real test!
He is also playing rakdos aggro
but we got harvester so that might be enough... hes got a perfect draw, we got him to 8 with SNS and a harvester down but we run out of pilots shame..
4-1
--
Bzzt to finish R5
Slow win vs R36 Jank
Kalithas MVP
4-1
--
R5
lets start with
Rakdrazi
T2 copter
T3 Garrison
T4 Chandra + Kari
Opponent concedes -smart guy-
5-0
now lets continue with R6
---
Rakdrazi again
Vs R35 Dimir artifacts
Super long game
I could not find a removal on time and his Spy network stole the game 5-1

Wintervoid next
Vs R40 Orzhov Zombies
they got t3 Lily and bunch of zombies to protect her but I ultimate Nahiri cast Combustible Gearhulk and then star to flicker it with the displacer... the card advantage is just overwhelming
5-1

lets wrap this up...
Tesla motor next
Vs R31 Azorius something
T2 Glory bound
T3 attacks and flips Lone rider
but we are to fast
T1 the 2/1
T2 Copter
T3 Kari and we start looting
then we got him at 8 he attacks with the rider we SNS that guy that deals 6 damage with tons of energy and block
recover our guy drop scrappy, remove a blocker and burn 6 to the face before we swing with all our guys!
5-1

one last
Bzzt to close the night
Vs r 32 GW Ramp
Sage showing off here he zaps From Beyond and Sandwurm.. still dont know If we will win...coz this deck is super slow....
he drops cruel reality on us... but we got like 12 tokens and double stockpile... so no big deal
-we got Nissa on board + tracker but we dont draw any lands-
we pump our guys with Green gearhulk then we SNS him and pump them some more... then we start swinging big time, a couple of turns later the game is ours.
5-1

that´s all for tonight
4 decks are still alive

Hey the pile is slow but can pull some funky board states, I honestly think you make really good use of the cards to be broken. -sure it can improve but all decks can- When I finish the ladder stage I will use Nomad's template for final scores.
Hopefully I can finish this today or tomorrow.
Ps: Hey Soup! Did you ditched us? :,(

Yeah, prolly. I just hate throwing away a 3-lander under any circumstances and especially with land light decks. That’s just begging the shuffler for a mull-to-3-oh-fuggit situation. I was too beat to get any more games in last night but I should get a few in today.

I almost think a short mulligan/lines of play guide would be good to include with at least some of the less intuitive decklists - a lot of these I don't think I quite figured out till mid-end of my series (and arguably am still not there on Mowie's :)). For instance, just warming up with Nomad's I think I preferred it be 2 land and 4 is about right out (unless cryptbreaker is there). I even had several 1 lands with multiple 1 drops work out fine. Part of the mad genius with it is there's so much discarding, low to the ground, and being mono I think that deck is more about the pieces you've got than the lands (outside of 0 obviously), but that's a lot different than the approach with most decks i'm new too (for me at least).

Off topic, but wanted to share.

So, last night I was trying some cards out in case Highway wins. Wanted to see what may be a good next card to for the next contest.

I was trying Ghirapur Æther Grid and Wispweaver Angel. Grid seemed like garbage, at least in my limited playtesting. Wispweaver has potential. Paired with the 2/2 that gains life when a creature enters the field and also Valor. It was working okay, but after a game where I started to feel guilty because of the time to resolve the angels on the way to infinite lifegain. I mean, I stopped at 30 life, even though that was not a sure thing just because it takes so long.

I think both are out. I am kinda hoping one of the other decks win, because I don't have a good card I want to put forward.

Anyway, after lots of losses I wanted to actually play a competitive deck, so for the last game of the night I played my Esper walkers. It has pretty much all the expected Walkers, but not little Gideon, and runs Tezz instead. Other win conditions are Kefnet, blue hulk and mana lands. Runs 2 scatter and 2 Confirm. The rest is pretty standard.

So, I faced another Esper. He only ran 2 Scatter, standard PW's, no Cast Outs or Commits, but Disciple, Glimmer and Never instead. (Disciple didn't come down until we had maybe 18 mana each after the first Memory, and he only had 5 instants in G/Y, so he couldn't stop Anguished)

The game lasted 45 mins, and no slow play. I cast Memory twice, and almost all of our wincons were exiled by the end. I had like 10 cards left in my deck, and a Ob @ 7 loyalty left and a vent, while he had a few cards in hand and a vent and 20 life as well as 14 cards in his library. I was seriously afraid that I would deck myself. I think he was out of win cons, but I knew he had a Push left.

He attacked my Ob with his vent and a zombie token. I used a push on vent. He Scattered paying 6, which added counters to vent (Although, it makes it a 3/3 if vent is already a creature, so he didn't get the Ob Kill). I did a languish next turn a swept the board of his vent and token. Then it was a waiting game. I would have to get 10 swings in 10 turns perfectly and hope he wouldn't disrupt that, or I had to come up with something quicker.

Long story short, I won with 3 cards in my deck with a Planar Powered Vent that dodged his push when I confirmed my suspicions that he was holding it. I also had to counter his blessed alliance as well, but had the mana to Scatter his plans. Without that Planar, I would not have been able to get enough damage through.

Probably the longest game I have played in Duels. I think with the memories, I drew well over 120 cards.

I sat this one out, but I'll suggest something jankadelic for the next one: landfall. Nobody's playing landfall (except for Tracker) so it could be fun to make a workable landfall deck. All you have to do is pick a build-around landfall card.

Btw, I've been following the playtesting and write-ups and having been enjoying them. Keep it up guys, great stuff.
My money's on Cucho. ;)

I have so many things I’d like to try:

Cartouches (no restrictions on which, just need to run 6 Trials and 8 Cartouches), Mina/Orrery (together), Kalastria Healer, any Retreat (or possibly any combo of 2 Retreats), Renegade Rallier, Throne of the God Pharaoh (prolly see a few Tides builds but hopefully some cool stuff too), Marionette Master, Cultivator of Blades, Aid from the Cowl... but if you win (I haven’t tallied anything yet but I think you and Cucho are the favorites for this round) and opt not to pick, I might let DCG pick again since I sort of jacked his round with SNS.

I may take you up on that if I win. I think Cucho will probably win though, I just want to be prepared if not.

As far as those suggestions, I like them, but I was trying to stay away from rares. Aid from the Cowl is the card I keep trying to make work, but so far not impressed with my builds. Cartouches may be a good idea, but I already see a few of those decks running around. I wanted something....very different and janky.

One other thing I was thinking was Implements. The big issue is that you could take any deck and drop 4 in to the deck, and not really have the implements be the focus of the deck.

Aww. You shoulda been here for rounds 1 and 2. We had Macabre Waltz or Hazoret’s Monument for R1 and Sly Requisitioner or Efficient Construction for R2. Soup and Barney were the only judges for those rounds. They were so happy to be playing such high quality builds! :D

Just finished Nomad’s run. His deck fought down a white weenie but got totally rolled by Mardu Friends. I gotta get some stuff done before I can try out bzzt’s build but I hope to get a game or two in with it tonight.

Edit: Nest is high jank factor but with only half a block of -1/-1 mechanics we sort of got robbed of the potential to do much with it. We’d end up with lots of rather similar builds, I think.

I had a -1/-1 counter deck for this round, I think I posted a build in this thread, but real life got in the way of testing it... And Arena's kind of fun atm... Sorry guys.

I'm sorry my build was so bad this round. I was overly enticed by the idea of casting SNS on a weaponscraft enthusiast and beating something in hand to hand combat. As my penance I'll let you know, I've built every single Pia's Revolution variant deck I could find from duelshelper, deckstats, reddit and tapped out. They're all "good" but seem a little flawed. Cucho has a good one, CGB has a really strange one that I can never win with(aether grid), there is an Esper one that only has the lightest splash of red and casts stuff with baral's/srams expertise out of color, Scum has one that is more racey, Thetekal has one that is more midrange and tops out with collossus, there are a few try to improvise with black, improvise with blue,AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, oh and haven'ts grixvolutions which I haven't taken out yet but looks like the right idea.

My vote if you're looking for ideas Winter would be we take the cards the guy I played in G7 of Scrappy Stamina's series was using and see if anyone can make a deck of it. That would be at minimum one each of the following (or 4 of the 6 or something): gonti's machinations, always watching, filigree familiar, blossoming defense, elvish visionary, and aethersphere harvester.

I've been banging my head against it and I still have no idea but I'm totally convinced it's awesome.

Sounds really fun. Machinations alone would be a fun build around card
