Back to messing with Flaky's, I tried swapping in Cruel Reality for the Kefnet I stuck in before. So far, a couple times it's showed up I definitely would've preferred the god, and the rest it's either been Reunion fodder or pure win-more by the time I can cast it. I'll try Ob next.

Cucho Lambreta’s Mill Deck

AI Hard 1 - Victory! Finally got a chance to try out Memory with Sphinx’ Tutelage, then used Big Chandra’s +0 to draw another 8 right after it. Then Fevered Visions dropped another two, leaving the opponent with 1 card in the library. He was able to do 3 damage on his last turn, bringing me down to 3, then came up empty at the end of turn to those darned Visions. Noice!

AI Hard 2 - Victory! Got an early Thing in the Ice and Enigma Drake, then a Sphinx’ Toot, then victory with Little Flip Jace’s ultimo power and Memory. The second Spinks’ Toot was just icing on the victory cake, at that point.

AI Hard 3 - Victory! I see the value of the Fall of the Titans, now. For a while, I could not get it off properly, but I see the benefit of its half-off surge cost as a mega-Twin Bolt. Once I got it off, it was a sweet release. T3 Fevered Visions which gave me my Spinks’ Tooter for T4. The rest was history.

Versus 1 - Loser! Mulligan down to 4, which is just not a great way to start. T2 I whipped my Thing out, but then sat there with Fall of the Stupid Titans in my hand. Having to wait until you have 5 mana to be able to burn two 3/2 Voltaic Brawlers is poop. Finishing rank 32.

Versus 2 - Victory! A weird one. Got my T2 Thing, T3 Sphinx, T4 Fevered Vision, milled him a bit, lost my Thing, lost my tutelage to a Recreational Sage, then my Fevered Visions to Nahiri, whom I then blasted, lost a bunch of life, reset the field with Memory, couldn’t get an enchantment out to save my life, but won by focusing solely on burning his stupid, stupid face. Finishing rank 33. Like Jesus.

Versus 3 - Victory! The way it is done, that! At one point, I Catharted out two Fiery Tempers with a Tutelage in play, flipping my Thing, netting me a second Tutelage and another Cathartic Reunion and another Fiery Temper. Just demolished my opponent, bringing him down to 1 life and 0 cards. Finishing rank 34

Versus 4 - Victory! Very nice. I was able to outrace a white weenie deck with an Enigma Drake, some Fevered Visions, and a metric buttload of removal. (A metric buttload, by the way, is about 10% larger than an Imperial buttload.) Every time he managed to get some guys out, bump them off. When he managed to get Oketra activated, carrying two white cartouches on her, no less, I sent her back to the library! So much fun, but only for me. Finishing rank 34.

Versus 5 - Loser! Couldn’t deal with all those darned tokens. I suspect this was one of the revolt decks from a previous contest. Either way, without a sweeper and once Ayli exiled my Sphinx, I was done for. Finishing rank 33. Like Jesus.

So, that Couch Lombardo guy makes a decent mill deck, but not so good that it beats the competition at 3-2-0.

One last deck to review and I’ll post my final whatevers later tonight.

Ob Nix in the Grixis control is a killer, no surprise there. Next step is bringing back Kefnet. I'm thinking maybe over a Manticore instead of a Drake. I rarely find myself actually flinging anything with them, they die to my sweepers, and Kefnet makes a really good defender while your planeswalkers tick up, especially since they all either let you draw or make plays without reducing your hand size.

Ob's ultimate is great in this deck too. Just did the full 20 between the time I triggered it and my next draw step courtesy of Jace, a reunion and both Visions.

TheFlakyMage’s... what the hell?

I’ll be honest, I rarely think about what’s in these decks when building them, ostensibly to prevent bias, but really just because I can’t be bothered to pay attention. When I opened my first match, I looked at my hand and thought “what the hell kind of deck is this?” Just a weird mishmash of cards.

Curiouser and curiouser.

AI Hard 1 - Victory! For a weird set of cards, it plays all right. The AI was clever for once! I cast Chandra’s Ignition on an Enigma Drake (3/4), but then the AI cast that useless spell that exiles three cards from a graveyard. Guess what? Chandra Ignite for 0! I still whupped his butt, though.

AI Hard 2 - Victory! Two Things in the Ice right off the bat, a Catharted Fiery Temper and the opponent was not long for this world.

AI Hard 3 - Victory! I really enjoy playing with my Thing. It’s so satisfying to flop it out and smack it down on an opponent’s face. He thought he was saved by the bell when he dropped the Regal Caramel on the last turn, netting a token from Oketra’s Minimall, but Languish is a cruel mistress.

Versus 1 - Victory! Against a guy named Don’tPlaySlow! He got me down tom5 life, while jumping up to about 30 or so. I spammed him with sweeperes, then finally got an Enigma Drake, then started a circuit of Heart-Throb Manticores which wiped out the last of his defenses, at which point he quit like a big baby. You hear that guys? If you jump out just before you lose, you’re a big baby. Finishing rank 35, apparently.

Versus 2 - Victory! Another comeback. From 6 life, I was able to ultimate Sandra, Porch of Defiance, then use my Wandering Fumerole/Caravan combo, some judicious removal, then the manland and a Fling to win. Once again, the opponent dropped out just before I did him in. Big baby. Finishing rank 36.

Versus 3 - Loser! A long, stupid battle of the superfriends. Sadly for me, little Lili and baby Jace were no match for Sorin and Big Jace, as well as a damned Emeria Shepherd and Torrential Gearhulk who kept coming out of the graveyard. Finishing rank 35.

Versus 4 - Victory! That was a good match. Like a shooting gallery. A thing pops up, it gets s taken down, on both sides. In the end, I wiped out his Gideon, and he killed my little Lili. A lot of fun, this duel. Finishing rank 36.

Versus 5 - Loser! Couldn’t flip my Thing fast enough to eject all those damned imps from Anointed Procession plus Devil’s Playground. That and Collective Effort sealed my fate. Finishing rank 35.

Another deck falls into place at 3-2-0. Tomorrow I’ll tally up my ratings and see who won and who lost.

A day filled of prospective Christmas shopping and my second Unstable draft means I didn't get a chance to finish testing. Nothing in the way tomorrow morning though, so I'll wrap things up then.

Barney chloroform doesn't count as musk, and we don't negotiate with terrorists here.

Hurry up DCG! My building finger's getting itchy!

Im now 17/2 with Mowies Reaper. I took a bad loss to Boris Vehicles cuz I couldn’t dig an Axe to save my life. Some Unlicensed Distengrations would have been nice

I'm at least marginally awake, so time for Mowie's deck! Going live now.

AI 1: Quick win against GB stuff. Need to work on my sequencing a bit I think.

AI 2: Drawn out win against Bant stuff. I keep a two lander and miss third land drop. Find third and fourth shortly later, but Opp had some time to set up so we're at a stalemate. Hazoret begins chipping away at Opp, making little headway against the tokens. Opp lands Sandwurm Convergence and hope looks lost. Magical topdecks grant me Key to the City and I attack a few times with unblockable Hazoret for the win.

AI 3: Win against Naya stuff. Removal and Neheb get the job done.

Onto Versus!

V1: Quick win against R1 Grixis stuff. Opp concedes after I get Haunted Dead and two Prized Amalgams on the field just before my T4.

V2: Win against R23 GW. I accidentally activate HD too late, slowing down the Amalgam's return. Doesn't matter, Opp has no answers.

V3: Win against R7 UB Zombies. I get two Cryptbreakers down early and beat Opp at his own game, eventually swinging with Hazoret and friends for the win.

V4: Win against R21 GB Counters. Opp doesn't have much hope after a mull to 5, and instant speed removal kills whatever hope he had left.

Well, that was obnoxious. Wifi went out on my computer after V4, so my notes onward are mostly from watching replay.

V5: Win against R38 Naya cats. Opp starts slow with two Watchful Naga (why are these in a cat deck?) before finally gets a Regal Caracal and cats online. Ifnir trigger would wipe Opp's board, but he moves to the scoop phase to avert the kitty massacre.

V6: Win against R3 Mono-Red. No remarks.

V7: Win against R39 Mono-G Ramp. I miss two points of damage along the way, making my life more difficult than it needed to be. Kozi threatens to counter spells, and I opt for Fiery Temper (3 CMC) over Ribbons at what would be 5 CMC. Opp doesn't have a 3 drop to pitch to counter, so I squeak out the win. Did he have a 5? The world may never know.

V8: Loss to R36 GR Go Wide. I keep a slow hand with potential, but Opp gets going early with two wolves and Oviya. I decide to get Amalgam and HD back on T3 instead of hardcasting Amalgam - his wolves transform, but I get more bodies and we're at a fairly even board. Looking back, perhaps I should have targeted Oviya with Chandra instead of Krallenhorde Howler - I wanted to stem the bleeding and stop Opp from slamming several more creatures. Instead, I never find additional removal and Oviya slowly takes over the game.

V9: Win against R40 GW Go Wide. Opp has some ok spells, but my removal matches up well and he never gets going.

V10: Win against R40 GB Counters. Minotaur tribal out in full force, I eventually put up a first striking wall with Neheb and both Bloodrages. The coffin's already closed, but Hazoret throws it off the cliff for good measure.

Btw in all my playtesting of all these decks I never had a réunion countered once. Did that happen to anyone?

Barney, I haven't had CR countered either.

Scores for me and Mowie!

DCG
Wins: 9 points from record.
BQ: 4. The deck is quick enough to get under some, or apply pressure to finish with burn later. I'm not wild about the Furyblades, but I'm happy with the synergies otherwise.
EV: 5. No nonsense smashing, enough trickiness to open additional lines and keep play interesting.
CB: 3. Reunions work well with madness and self-reanimators, but there's not always enough time to make use of them.
21/25

Mowie
Wins: 9 points from record.
BQ: 4. The removal sometimes doesn't get there, and the Cryptbreakers are pretty hot or cold. No complaints otherwise.
EV: 5. The potential for explosive starts and ability to come back late make a solid package for fun.
CB: 3. Reunions help pitch Amalgams, Tempers and HD. They actively work against cards that want you to remain "heckbent" though, and several times I had one in hand that I didn't want to cast.
21/25

I do believe that brings us to the end! The final scores:

DCG - 21/25 - 5.5 points
Mowie - 21/25 - 5.5 points
Cucho - 20/25 - 4 points
Haven - 19.5/25 - 3 points
Barney - 18.5/25 - 2 points
Nomad - 17/25 - 1 point
Flaky - 16/25 - 0 points

Solid decks all around with the worst performances tied at 7-3. Haunted Dead.decs take the cake though.
