Regardless, would you define "people who play board games" as anything other than "gamers"? Given the context, I'm fairly sure the "board" was implied, unless you want to call them explicitly as non-hobby game enthusiasts or something to that nature.

When board games became something more than life, monopoly, and trouble. Except board games don't define gamers so much; I never said that. People who like board games will play those. Gamers will play risk, settlers of catan, etc. unfortunately I expect this generalization will lead to some very unnuanced arguments.

While I like to think of myself as a fairly hardcore tabletop gamer, even I wouldn't be diabolic enough to run my players through such a trial.

When I think gamers, I think video games or tabletop. I didn't think "Sorry!". And I didn't really think of Settlers of Catan and similar as board games.

A millisecond's worth of self-reflection will show that this is your personal bias. Gamers play games. All games. Because we are gamers. We have preferences, sure, but that's not the point.

Other people play games as social experiences and the like, which generally means the games have simpler rules and interactions. This doesn't stop them from being games.

And considering a huge chunk of Cataan is the board, I can't fathom why you didn't think of it as a board game.

I did not really enjoy Cards Against Humanity more than like Apples to Apples. I feel like with Apples, you are already trying to make ridiculous connections and arguments, Cards Against Humanity only tries to more shock value-y phrases, which is a little try-hard to me.
