Well, now, this is a fascinating little Aubedore reading, now isn't it? Let's see what we can decipher here. Firstly, we see an inverted Student leading into the Statue. On the surface, this seems to be referring to The Duchess herself, as the upper-left corner of the "Crossroads" pattern does, often, refer to the recipient of the reading, and The Duchess's cold, emotionless demeanor could certainly be called statue-like. However, there is another, deeper reading that requires knowledge of the events on Aliavelli, where Moira Trevanei was hand-picked to be the High Sorceress, essentially under The Duchess, and Moira, as Orcish often describes the memory of Moira as making her a "Marble Woman," and so this reading
might be hinting at something more dire for The Duchess.
Secondly, we have The Fish leading into The Castle. A fish is a small creature, used for food or perhaps distraction, to which little notice is paid. A castle is a fortress, perhaps impenetrable to direct assault, but castles often have moats. Moats in which a fish might swim, unnoticed. So perhaps The Fish here suggests that some "small," unnoticed force could breach The Duchess's defense.
The Peak, particularly in a reading that is leaning toward elements of power as we might be, would represent the summit of power, but inverted as it is here, perhaps we are seeing a collapse of that power or, if not quite so extreme, another in-road toward undermining that power. The inverted Ancient One could be literal, as of someone young, or perhaps comparative, as of someone quite old, but considerably younger than The Duchess herself. Someone, perhaps, like The Shifter?
The Sword, leading to the inverted Throne, seems to be a clear message: Outright war will bring about a loss of power/authority/control, which is of course the last thing The Duchess wants.
The Endless Maze, inverted or not, seems a dire destination card, and when covered by the Fate card of The Gravestone, all the more. Perhaps the events on Aliavelli are more detrimental to The Duchess than we may have suspected?
