I did end up building a mono- Monument/Madness deck after all. It crushes the ai easily enough that I think it might have some play on the ladder. I haven't been able to bring myself to test the Waltz build against non-AI. Pretty sure I know how it will end...
3 * Ruthless Sniper // easy to trigger 4 * Macabre Waltz // pick up 2 cycled creatures and drop a spare land for an extra discard trigger seems pretty good here 2 * Archfiend of Ifnir // da bomb! 4 * Horror of the Broken Lands // cycling and good with Key to the City - decent reanimator target. 1 * Liliana, Death's Majesty // make tokens and reanimate stuff 2 * Ever After // get those Archfiends out of the GY and on the table where they belong
Initially, I had forgotten that Scrapheap Scrounger requires mana to revive from GY and had a pair in here. I took them out, along with the 4th Distemper and am trying 3 Bloodlust Inciters instead. This seems like the type of deck Barney would enjoy.
Haven_pet, you really know your red decks! I always loved madness vampires (and also vampire madness!) and the addition of Hazoret's Monument improves the speed over regular madness. I love chaining together madness creature drops like that.
Glad you liked it.
Btw, Haven_pet??? WTF? Lol... (The PT is actually a reference to my nationality)
Part Tree? Passionate Tomato? Pretend Texan? Primal Terrier?

None... That forgotten little corner of europe that Madonna seems to want to make her new home:
So here's another rakdos approach, it's pretty straight forward, I took macrabre waltz, and use it to keep fueling a vampire madness deck. On the number of lands for a madness deck that curves at 3 I think 20-21 is the way you wanna go.
Ok I got my deck tweaked, I will try it again on the ladder tonight before the submission. BTW how is this going to work in the end?
Good question. Unless soupcannon and Barney want to volunteer to be panelists and judge the entries, I think I'll just set up a poll. My laptop is having issues (loose power connector - getting really hard to charge it) so I might end up having to post the lists via my phone, which would suck, but I'll make it work. Expect the poll to go up tomorrow afternoon and last for 5 days.
@Nomad: That Daredevil deck idea looks like a janky blast - love it!
Thanks Flaky, I tried it a bit and it's just as ridiculous and super fun as it looks. Was there ever a more perfectly janky combo? I feel like I'm playing some quirky romantic comedy. He has necrophelia, she's a serial runaway bride; it's a love so crazy it might just work!

Speaking of quirky romantic comedy, I certainly volunteer to be a good anelist/judge of the decks, especially if it's alongside Soup. We'll be like those old guys on the Muppets.

Erhm... close enough! That's awesome! Let me see if Soup is on board, then. In the meanwhile, I'ma list all the entries here so I can just copy/paste with my phone if we go with a poll after all.

If Soup does agree then these would be the criteria you'd be evaluating: 1. Effectiveness. 2. How well it utilizes the card(s). (bonus point for making good use of both) 3. (optional) How fun it is. It'd be up to you to weight those factors however you like, tho.
"Tru Story"
I played a game with my mono-red Monument build last night. T1 I play Flameblade Adept. Opp plays a Hissing Quagmire. T2, I play Key to the City and swing. Opp plays Sylvan Advocate T3, I play Monument. Opp plays the other Advocate. T4, I drop a land and pass, holding a Youths and Bloodmad in hand. I'm hoping he'll swing with his advocates and I can chain drop both creatures using Key and Monument and take out one of his Advocates with my Youths. He plays Reclamation Sage precombat tho and targets my Key. I respond by dropping Bloodmad, and then using Hazoret to discard and play Youths - and draw another Bloodmad! I keep going and end up hitting a land with I discard as well to draw Hazoret the Fervent. Boom. T5, I top a land and play it, along with Hazoret, and my other Key (my hand is now empty), and swing hard. He trades the Bloodmads and chumps Hazoret, letting Flameblade and Youths through. I'm feeling good. He's shown black mana tho so my only concern- the only card that he might run that could really ruin my day would be Languish. But, he would only have 2 in his deck and the odds of getting one are pretty low. I'm prolly oka... poop. He had Languish. I top a land, which I hold, planning to dump it to Key for extra draw. He plays another Sage and nukes my Key. I top Sanitarium and play it. He plays flip-Nissa. I activate Reach and draw yet another land and fold em. "GG, sir, you got me good." Or something like that. There may have been some unprintable words. And possibly some spittle. But no froth or foam - of that I'm almost certain! Nah... I was actually pretty high off that massive army I pulled out of nowhere. Going from just a single 1/2 at the end of T4 to a 1/2, 2 4/1s, a 4/3, and a 5/4, all swinging on T5 was nuts.

It was always meant to come to this, Barney. Will you be my cranky old puppet man?
