What were you thinking?

About 100 cards based on a warcraft story or WoW raid or something. I dont know much about the warcraft world unfortunately

i haven't been super following hearthstone but afaik they haven't touched pandaria much yet and that's a hotbed of cool lore. it was probably my favourite expansion in the game.

They haven't done much from legion i think, the current expansion. The story isn't resolved yet but the expansion introduced the second hero class in the mmo, demon hunters, so presumably you could do another cycle of hero cards. You could for pandaria as well since they introduced monks although they are not a hero class i doubt that matters since people in hearthstone are just called heroes anyway.

I'm a big fan of troll culture personally, and wouldn't mind seeing a set centered around trolls. There are a few distinct tribes that are generally at some degree of war so you could do something with that.

dragons in WoW are pretty involved, so you could try to make a set around them, although they've had a relatively heavy presence in every hearthstone set already so you'd have to recycle some material.

could do a set centered around TBC expansion although it'd be kind of dated because a lot of the plot was directly followed up on in legion.

the elementals are always up to something and there are some elemental lords so you could probably do a set focused around them. neptulon and alakir and ragnaros and therazan are the elemental lords and i think at least three and possibly all of them already have cards but ragnaros could always be given yet another rendition.

could do a set centered around pet battles, WoW's pokemon-inspired minigame where players catch/collect animals both from wild zones and from boss drops and acheivements and quests and soforth and then use them to battle other players or powerful PvE content in a system that heavily mimics pokemon. There are over 1000 battlepets although a lot of them are just recolours but there is plenty of material there.

oh and WoD is of course a thing, which is basically an AU retelling of parts of the wc2 storyline. Draenor in general is a major planet in the WoW mythos that isn't azeroth and idk to what extent HS has touched it but i am presuming not very

It's been a long time since I played, so I don't really recall that many areas or dungeons either. I like the Legion idea though. Events could be called upon, like Darkmoon Faire. Hearthstone also does a lot of alternate reality stuff, so that's also possible.

I kind of like the idea of doing pandaria. Possibly with enchantments or something lime what we saw in the tutorial missions. Monk heroes also sounds neat. Ive also wanted to try the tri class cards but different groups of 3.

Windwalker - Rogue, Warlock, Hunter
Brewmaster - Shaman, Mage, Warrior
Mistweaver - Druid, Priest, Paladin

Whats the flavor of those tribes?

They are the subclasses of monk. Windwalker is combo fighter DPS, Brewmaster is drunken brawler tank, and Mistweaver heals using mists. They're not perfect matches.

You should (inevitably fail to) do the Caverns of Time, for no real reason other than Murozond being my boi.
It also has very clear themes that you can explore, and if you're lazy you can just do a bunch of alternate reality versions of existing cards.

Vektor said he would help with lore if we did caverns so that seems fun. We could do cards from warcraft past present and future. Alternate ages of the current heroes as hero cards. Terrible real time based mecahnics, stuff that changes on what turn they are played. There's this incredible mechanic in the eternal card game called "warp". a card with warp lets you play it when it's on top of your deck.

Do you have an idea for mechanical themes?

Well the obvious ones are time related. Maybe a cycle of cards that get bonuses when played on the first turn and a cycle of cards that get bonuses on later turns. Something like warp where you can play it while it's on top of your deck.

Other than that I'm not sure yet

Nerubian Prophet is a good card in this space. I think cards that make hitting your curve even better are problematic, e.g., 1-cost cards that are great on turn one and bad otherwise.

But evolve shaman may be tired.

I want to retry quests, but I don't know if this is the right place thematically.

You could have quests that represent stories of the past for the older heroes like guldan and garrosh and stuff. I know jaina had a lot of story in the warcraft names (right?). Quest rewards being legendary loot or whatever. For younger heroes you could have quests represent stuff they will eventually go through or maybe already have in WoW lore.
We kind of just had quests though.

Possible story and crazy ideas:

Heroes go to help noz fight the infinite dragonflight. Evil noz goes back in time and messes them up so we get alternate class heroes. Anduin gets some warriorish cards like enrage minions or stuff that hurts your guys so you can then heal them. Maybe druid gets overload, etc. Stuff that sort of already works with their own cards. Then we could make cards that give you those cards from the other classes. So warrior would get something that draws you one of alternate anduin cards, etc.

Really though, I just realllly want this

A scry 1 type mechanic
Flashback - first time this card dies/enters the grave whatever this game, shuffle it back into your deck and reduce its cost to
some sort of time portaly mechanic. Basically recruit but it adds cards to your hand.
Rank Up X after X turns in play this card becomes better. Like the spellstones but for minions or weapons
