do you know how science works

I used to know. Then I did some reading and found out things like the theory of evolution don't even follow the scientific method (can't be tested can't be proven positive or observed) but are assumed to be scientific by scientists.

now I think half of the scientific stuff I hear or see is not examples of real science because they don't hold up to scrutiny.

wait that was a rhetorical question right? never mind...

Apparently that has nothing much to do with burgers being stuffed with preservatives and everything to do with them drying out really fast. Mold needs moisture to grow, so once the burger loses its moisture, it's no longer possible for it to go moldy, and the small size and large surface area of your average burger mean it dries out totally within just a few days. Don't get me wrong, McDonald's is still kinda ugh, but their burgers aren't some kind of weird preservative-stuffed pseudofood.

If I really want to get a fast food burger, I tend to go with A&W. I'll only go to McDonald's if I just want some fries, because they do have damn good fries.

Jack-in-the-Box is just repulsive. Some friends and I stopped at one once on a trip down to the States, just to see what it was like. Never again.

actually most meats are soaked in rat poison (I forget the chemical name) so the surface absorbs this chemical and nothing can grow on it. McDonalds uses a pink slime blend of multiple kinds of meats that have been soaked in this stuff and then blended so that the chemical permeates all of the meat. Thus nothing can possibly grow on it...

I think it was in Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser that noted that the majority of ground beef that is ground in the slaughter house contains feces and bile since they often nick bowels while slicing the cows open. The contents of the intestines will cover the exposed muscle of the cow and get ground right along with it, then served to you all at your local establishment. ^_^

If you want to start a real thread discussing evolutionary theory, that's a fine idea, but this thread is probably not long for this world, and it isn't really fair to throw something like this out there uncontested.

that's why they have to soak it in rat poison because it's covered in bacteria and feces. If I could afford it I'd go to a butcher for my meat where it is minimally treated...
