Traditional values emphasize the importance of religion, parent-child ties, deference to authority and traditional family values. People who embrace these values also reject divorce, abortion, euthanasia and suicide. These societies have high levels of national pride and a nationalistic outlook.

Secular-rational values have the opposite preferences to the traditional values. These societies place less emphasis on religion, traditional family values and authority. Divorce, abortion, euthanasia and suicide are seen as relatively acceptable. (Suicide is not necessarily more common.)

Survival values place emphasis on economic and physical security. It is linked with a relatively ethnocentric outlook and low levels of trust and tolerance.

Self-expression values give high priority to environmental protection, growing tolerance of foreigners, gays and lesbians and gender equality, and rising demands for participation in decision-making in economic and political life.

Considering this, I found it fairly easy to map these values to the five colors.

:r: - Self-Expression Values
:g: - Traditional Values
:w: - Survival Values
:u: - Secular-Rational Values
:b: - Doesn't Care

Of course, red doesn't have "priority to environmental protection" as part of its list, moving that to :g:, and :g: doesn't have "deference to authority", as that's in :w:.
But the fact that these values match up so closely with the five colors of MtG are interesting.

The word "survival" makes me think much more :g: than :w: and "tradition" on it's own could either be very :g: or very :w:

Yeah, :g: seems really light on this part of politics. :w: meanwhile seems really heavy but in a very dangerous way, being nationalistic and willing to sacrifice freedoms for security. It's in my signature.

However... :g: has a political weakness of predetermination, which is encompassed by family ties and deference to authority, the authority being something bigger than it.

The word "survival" makes me think much more :g: than :w: and "tradition" on it's own could either be very :g: or very :w:

The wording for the political axes in this diagram aren't precise to the marketing that they give off. Survival in this sense talks about getting physical and economic security.
Something coming to mind involves utilizing an army to deal with a threat.

Garruk Wildspeaker's backstory goes into some detail about how :g: can simply be passive about physical and economic security. Other examples include the ravenous, unthinking behemoths that :g: often commands and allows to run rampant.
