This can be a thread where we can post and talk about happy and exciting moments that come up in our lives.

Like, for instance, I've had the pleasure of Dungeon Mastering for three friends for something like 13 hours total the last few weeks. With luck, I'll be able to continue more sessions in-person with two of them and online with the third, who's moving out-of-town.

I'm also super-excited for the solar eclipse tomorrow!

(I fully expect a majority of posts here to be by OrcishLibrarian.)

I found out that my local LGS - in a po'dunk little town, mind - has a thriving Legacy scene. Happy happy joy joy, I get to play bad red cards.

I ate cheesecake for breakfast today, and I plan to do it again tomorrow.

You're a madman! Tempting fate, I say!

I mean, pancakes are a breakfast food, and they're literally just cakes that you make in a pan.

Muffins and danishes and donuts and waffles and basically all pastries are pretty much deserts that it somehow became okay to eat for breakfast.

So why not cheesecake, I say! Why not?

Maybe not joyous, but a funny moment: scrolling on Tumblr I found this post, and I was suddenly reminded of how I must seem inordinately fond of forcing Sharaka through physical and emotional meat-grinders :shifty:

It's a weird feeling, caring about a character and repeatedly bashing them over the head with the Plot Hammer

There are... many possible responses to that feeling, I assume. That is surely one of them :paranoid:

Doug Beyer seems to consider it quite normal for a writer.

Meanwhile, I noticed while searching for that memory that dinosaurs were on his mind a little over two years ago.

For whatever reason, I'm reminded of this poem by Langston Hughes:

Quote:
"Mother to Son"

Well, son, I’ll tell you:
Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I’se been a-climbin’ on,
And reachin’ landin’s,
And turnin’ corners,
And sometimes goin’ in the dark
Where there ain’t been no light.
So boy, don’t you turn back.
Don’t you set down on the steps
’Cause you finds it’s kinder hard.
Don’t you fall now—
For I’se still goin’, honey,
I’se still climbin’,
And life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.

Sometimes, the characters we love most have the toughest climbs. But they keep climbing, and I think that's precisely why we come to love them.

First off, I found out this is a thing. It's a two-page free RPG in which you play a literal bear. It sounds so fun and I'm hoping to run it at a convention I'm going to around Halloween time.

Secondly, I got my mom into Arrested Development. She loves it. We binged through all of season 1 and half of season 2 over Labor Day weekend.

Thirdly, while I was looking up the qualities of sirens in Magic I discovered that Ixalan has feathered dinosaurs. FEATHERED FREAKING DINOSAURS. It is so awesome and I feel so vindicated, especially after feeling like I was some sort of minority for thinking the last Jurassic Park was lesser for having the old scaley kind.

Congratulations, man!

In personal news:
Well, it's finally happened. I had thought OL was unique (and maybe a little crazy), but I nearly came to tears writing a scene. I don't think the scene in question will affect others as much as it did me, but damn if what I saw in my head wasn't one of the saddest things I'd ever seen. I've actually already written quite a bit more for it than I had expected myself to, so with a little luck I can show off the story soon.

I don't want to be tone deaf, with the Ruwin thing and everything, but...

HIVESWAP IS SO **** AMAZING I'VE GOT TEARS IN MY EYES

They released the first part earlier today on Steam, and of course I had to dive in head first and wow. There's so much fanservice for Homestuck readers it's ridiculous, but since the protagonist has no clue about the Weird Plot Shenanigans I don't think that novices of the setting would be more disoriented than the principal POV herself is.

The art is 2d, with very detailed and lovely backgrounds and cute and lively characters (when Joey started tap dancing my heart grew a few inches, I swear). As advertised, most items in the inventory and most special actions give unique responses when applied to each clickable piece of scenery; many of them are hilarious variations of "why would you do this, you silly goofball", but some interactions explore the POVs' world and history very nicely. The developers said that some of your choices of dialogue will affect later events, so I'll probably going to replay it to read all the branches and spot any interactions I may have missed.

All in all, a short game (the first of 4 "acts", I think?) but absolutely delightful and (I feel) an absolute must for Homestuck readers. A really cheerful note to end my day with, since it's 12:20 as I write this and I should get to bed now.

Very cool! I'm not familiar with the Homestuck universe, but this sounds like fun.

I spent all day at the state fair. I'm... actually not sure if I could call it a thoroughly enjoyable experience (I vastly overestimated how many tickets I'd be spending, for one), but I made a day of it.

Oh, man, I remember the fair! My favorites were the giant slide, and the flying-saucer-type ride that just spins faster and faster in a circle until the centrifugal force pins you against the wall.

...Which, in retrospect, sounds like a bad idea for a ride? But I loved it!

Did not love the 4H tents. When I was little, I tried to pet a duck in one of the cages, and the duck bit me. I have been holding a grudge against ducks ever since...
