Well at last the thing has a name now. An ugly and disposable one, but hey maybe I ask too much.

Basically another nothing announcement, is that 3 in a row now? All we really found out was the name, they're giving more info (lol) on september 7th during a stream and there's gonna be a closed beta, apart from that they're keeping us in the dark

Imagine the salt flying around when like a half of NGA gets into the closed beta and the other half doesn't. Hahahahahahahaha, clever plan Wizards.

Perhaps they're just trying to tease and build suspense. Ironically, more than half the community is not here to hear it.

I'm even starting to think that it's not even going to be a card game... There's a Magic The Gathering boardgame called.... Arena. With the MMO crap coming as well, it's pretty obvious that they are trying to explore new stuff.

Last time I've heard of and MtG-related "Arena" title, we were pushing pixelated elementals and goblins up to a checkered board.

Oh well. If CCG-related, they would've done FAR better by keeping "Duels" onto the name, just to avoid any further community spreading.
These companies should understand that by changing names so much, users tend to mistake what's going on.

Even with the latest Duels, there've been plenty of people mistaking Magic 2015 for the real deal.
Keep it CoD-like, if it has to be a reusable term.

Technically not. We keep saying stuff like that about magic next but magic next is not a thing, its an overarching term for many things which includes this new game that replaces duels.

They specifically said the digital "game" they are working on is called Arena

MTG: Arena will be a MOBA style experience, where players can take control of characters from all across the multiverse.

And by "characters", they mean 12 different versions of the Gatewatch.

Oh no man come on, this is a FREAKIN' MOBA! Those will be $10 skins each. Here's Ravnica Jace, Innistrad Jace, Classic Jace etc...

No, and that's a good point. But since they call it "Magic: The Gathering Arena", it stands to reason it's built around the card game. Also, back when they were announcing the end of Duels, they were plugging this thing like crazy so it must be a card game (or at the very least, have the card game as part of it) because why the heck would they say a MMORPG (or whatever) is the replacement digital experience for a card game? That would be nuts.

those puzzle quest games are crack-cocaine. I'm going to fall back into Gems of War at some point and it's going to engulf me yet again (same creators)

So seeing as the MOBA idea is looking desperately likely, who would people actually want in it?
