Like, what did they think would happen if they showed a blackface archetype with "can't read" as one of her descriptions?

:face:, racist Rebecca.
:face:, paranoid viewers.

I have no idea what to say...

Other then that a charachter made of light probably shouln't be black: Rebecca never even tried to make science-fiction element harder then a marshmallow, but that's just intuitively not right.
(yeah, "infra-red color" and all that, but again, it's marshmallow-soft sci-fi, so it better be intuitive.)

Why should you be surprised?
SJW types will always turn on each other at the drop of a hat. They have no heroes.

Mind, I'm not even saying there are no reasons some people should be upset, but you see how they're reacting.

I'll spare this subforum from rants, and welcome everyone willing to discuss into offtopic room.

EDIT nevermind, I'm too lazy for big rants. Short version below.

My opinion, tl; dr version:
IMHO,

While justice is good for straighforward things like scaring people away from murder and mugging, it falls apart when you make philosophy or ethics based on it or apply it to things too complex, too simple, or too subjective things.

People think too much of justice, and then apply it to things like "feeling of being offended", and suddenly everyone (!) is simultaneously (!) unjust, unfair, triggered, judjed, and so on.

The thing that makes more sense here is decency.

To not make stuff that will feel racist to lots of people, AND not to scream on stuff that feels racist to you on all occasions.

I always wonder how many of the group of an offensive thing actually offends, how how kuch of the outcry is just nerdy sjws trying to feel important and honorable by protecting the "weak and oppressed"

In all fairness I have nothing against competitive types, except when they force it on casual groups. Especially under the guise of "Oh I'm just trying to help them become better players" no you're not shut up

This is a looming thing that prompted my statement in the first place.
I love Dragonball. With the upcoming fighting game, there was a feature for it at evo, which is, to be fair, a competitive event.

The problem is, dragonball is rather a notorious 'casuals' franchise.
And it all came to a kerfluffle when two members of the dragonball community were tapped as announcers for the event.
The competitive crowd took substantial umbrage with their lack of adherence to the competitive environment and terminology.

However, while this happenstance was what brought about that statement, I find it true of LOOOOOOTS of stuff. Magic, Overwatch, I'm a filthy casual and damn proud.

I'm also a fan of DB. I've started Kai with the Buu stuff. Some of it is really good - like when Majin Vegeta challenges Buu: "I'm not going to hell by myself. I'm taking you all along for the ride!" Some of its not - when Majin Vegeta, in Kai, said "I had a family and it wasn't such a bad thing," versus the line in Z: "I had a family...I had grown quite fond of them..." There, I liked Z's dialogue more. Mixed bag, overall.

Is it worth going back and watching Kai from the Saiyan Saga onwards?

Guys! Guys! Vampire tribal is a thing in C17!

Spoiler

I honestly expected that, but I'm a bit on the fence about it. I've already painstakingly assembled an Olivia Voldaren tribal EDH deck, not sure what to do with a preconstructed one. That spoiled image is probably Edgar Markov, and he'd better be mono-black. I guess they might make him Mardu-coloured, but he really has no reason to be. The only thing I know for sure is that I'll riot if it doesn't come with a splashy new version of Baron Sengir!

Rip on Nissa as much as possible.
I'd consider it a personal favor.

Does anyone have any specific questions they'd like answered (that don't involve future information that will get a hard pass from Doug)? The con isn't until the end of September/beginning of October. Having a lot of friends on staff, there's going to be several opportunities for me to cross paths with Doug outside of a crowded panel setting and maybe get some socializing time in.

How about...

1.) Now that they've 'solved' Dominaria (or so they claim), will we see it more often going forward than we did in the past ten years?
2.) Could/will the pendulum swing in a direction where pre-Mending lore is more strongly embraced and becomes more relevant again to reward older fans (e.g. like they did with Tamiyo's Serra scroll that one time)?
3.) Are natural connections between planes still possible after the Mending (e.g. like the links between Rabiah and Dominaria)?
4. ) Why did Creative not deem it necessary to explain or even acknowledge the retcons in Magic Origins, also considering that they were pretty open about their reasons for the very controversal Mending?
5.) Is the name of Innistrad's fourth angel sister Lysene? 'Cause that's the name Sorin whispers in his sleep in Teeth of Akoum, and it would probably be their only chance to ever tie that up...
