To be fair, Ajani's plan is just as dumb. There is realistically nothing you can plan against the Tzeentch of MTG. Either you strike now when he's still vaguely aware, or you'll have a bloodshed later.

Which is essentially just planning to get the bloodshed out of the way now.

If the Gatewatch hadn't just revealed themselves, it's not like Bolas would have been that much wiser. At least with Ajani, you come with a lot more hands on deck, something Tezzeret wouldn't have been able to relay to Bolas.

And then the Gatewatch meets on Dominaria and Ajani walks in with Jared Carthalion and Dakkon Blackblade in tow. :takei:

That ends poorly for one of them

In all seriousness, though, I'd be totally down for seeing some of the Grandeur legends (probably with new cards) when we return to Dominaria, especially Korlash. Oriss probably lives on Mercadia, and I don't really care about Baru and even less about Tarox, but introducing Korlash and Linessa into the canon would be awesome.

Grandeur has always been one of my favorite abilities. I think it has a lot of potential beyond what they did with Korlash (who was my favorite by far) and his ilk.

Personally, I'm more intrested in them as characters than in revisiting Grandeur as a mechanic, especially because Korlash having the Blackblade would ideally establish what happened to Dakkon. Linessa hanging around at Tolaria West should also be interesting.

That said, a friend from my playgroup has an amazing mono-black casual deck with a playset of Korlash. And when I say Korlash, I mean the foil promo with artwork by Richard Kane Ferguson. I'm so damn jealous of that deck for the sheer style of it...

I seriously would like to see them try bringing old faces to the return to Dominaria. Because I'm feeling that even if they return, most of the character that will appear will be new-ish.

Heck, it would be even quadruple surprising if a good-aligned oldwalker returns, because WOTC seems to be hell bent on putting Oldwalkers-that-are-not-created-post-Mending to a "they're uber powerful so they're evil trope" as if we didn't have the likes of Teferi, Karn, Taysir, Daria, Kristina, Feroz, Serra, Sandruu and Bo Levar.

They did print PW cards for Teferi and Freyalise back in Commander, and they're usually considered good guys.

Indeed, but then again Commander doesn't have a set story.... whereas the Return to Dominaria has one.

Allow me to just say that I'm personally irritated that at no point did Temmet die.

Lili should have killed him in the embalming chambers.

Yes, that bugs me too. He was set up to be a fairly important antagonist, but he's utterly absent now.

Hopefully he'll appear as his mummy form

Going back to something from Amonkhet, it's looking like Nissa's shift to blue isn't going to get the character development I was expecting, but is a smaller, subtler, and less-permanent shift than I assumed. On balance, I'm okay with this.

They should just have her have tried magic from the Luxa. It was just a pointless way for her to hack Kefnet and the cartouches

According to MaRo:

"In the story, Bolas took three existing Gods (the world had eight Gods when he arrived) and warped them into his own choosing (note this was before Bolas lost all his god-like powers in the Mending), which is why they're combinations of his colors. What the gods originally looked like or what colors they were before his actions is unknown."

Ajani's plan wasn't all that bad. Go find Tamiyo, ask her for help, who then directs him to Sorin, who directs Ajani to Ugin, who goes to Amonkhet with the Gatwatch in tow.

Willing to bet Ugin and Bolas are still pretty close in power.

Also, something I was thinking about a while ago: If Doug et. al. hadn't come out and said Ugin wasn't an Elder Dragon, they could probably have gotten away with making him an actual Elder Dragon. Because Ya know, Bolas kinda DID kill him originally.

Isn't Sorin like petrified or something? I haven't read the Innistrad stuff, but I looked at an overview and remmeber him being taken out of the picture somehow as part of Nahiri's revenge. I may just be wrong though.

He's not so much "petrified" as he is currently encased in a wall with bits of it piercing his insides and churning at him mercilessly so he can't concentrate long enough to 'Walk away. Some of his upper half is not trapped and he can technically talk to people.

In an unforeseen storyline twist that people will still be talking about in twenty years, Ali Baba showed up on Innistrad and freed Sorin.

Seriously, though, if Sorin didn't get chiseled out of that wall months ago, I'll call shenanigans. The PW Guide to Innistrad makes it clear that an Innistrad vampire "will starve to death in one full cycle of the moon unless it drinks as much human blood as an average human contains (about five liters). Almost any vampire will drink more than this if given the chance, however. Without enough blood, a vampire starves quickly—in a matter of several days—first desiccating before eventually crumbling to dust."

If it was up to me, I'd just reveal that Edgar Markov escaped Nahiri's killing spree and decided to lay low until the madness was over, secretly conspiring with Olivia to have her make her deal with Sorin so that he'd kill Avacyn. Then Edgar could show up, free Sorin and we could have that long overdue Edgar Markov card when we return to Innistrad again. :)

...I think they never showed Edgar's dead body or anything, did they? :paranoid:
