There's a pretty significant number of cards so far dedicated to showing restoration efforts outside of Naktamun, or even the presence of established life (Crested Sunmare, lol). I'm pretty sure it's what Nissa is going about doing. This "Returning to Amonkhet would be difficult" meme needs to die, I'm pretty sure a second visit to the set would be more interesting than the first.

Yes, it's clear that the world of Amonkhet is regenerating. The problem is the absence of gods, which I don't know how Cretaive will solve. Anubis was a popular deity, but not the monotheistic monarch of Egypt

Something made the gods in the first place. If it was tied to people's belief, then there is hope that something will spawn in their place eventually. Whether that is the old gods reborn or new gods, lead by the remaining old god is unclear.

The gods are not tied to belief as in Theros. While Rhonas' death implies that the gods are not truly gone, it seems that they're unable to come back.

Either they regenerate, or we get this:

I liked the original setting of Zendikar (pre Eldrazi release). I wouldn't mind them finding away to revisit that. But I fully agree, and have been saying this for a while: they need to stop destroying plane's wholesale and give us something to come back to. Zendikar is so egregious because it was during their "every other block is a return" mindset I believe, knowing full well it was a popular plane they could return to to make fans happy they destroy it.

I don't mind retcons as much as other people on the boards, but I do question the logic of creating situations that will make a thing you obviously want to do at some point harder to do with out retcons. Like the Mirrodin retcons don't bother me: the first block was done at a time they didn't expect to return to things so fixing that wasn't bad imo. However blowing up a plane you know people like and will want to come back to is short sighted. Same with Trakir and it's shift to dual color. Take something unique and highly requested (wedge multicolor), do one set and then focus on ally color pairs for two sets and remove the chance of going back to the wedges. That's more mechanical sure, but it does tie into the flavor.

What if Vengeful Pharaoh takes place in Amonkhet's future, since there's no more Hekma and Bolas left the plane?

I don't see how that would make sense, especially not with that artwork. If it's supposed to be an ancient pharaoh that was buried somewhere before Bolas took over Amonkhet, why do his staff and diadem have Bolas-related symbolism? And if it's so far in the future that there have been mortal pharaohs established as rulers (again?) who were then embalmed after their death, then why would they still have Bolas-related symbolism on their artefacts when their God-Pharaoh has been revealed as an evil trespasser and tyrant? And if they just reprint the card with different, not Bolas-related artwork, then what's the point in anything? They've missed the opportunity to incorporate that card into Amonkhet's worldbuilding as it is and have it make sense.

I could see a return to Amonkhet, in the end it was really just Naktamun that got wrecked. I don't think the life outside the barrier was uninhabitable, it's just that the Gods provided a very sheltered life to the point that mummies literally did everything around Naktamun and the citizens were basically babysit to do as they were told.

Returning to Zendikar isn't even hard. Zendikar Resurgent, remember? One continent got pwned , but I'm pretty sure it will be treated in general of "And the eldrazi were defeated, everyone had a good time, and nothing of value was lost and not restored" because that's the kind of ending we got to the Battle For Zendikar.

Amonkhet is a little harder. Even then, they've dedicated themselves to planting the seeds in HoD, of those who will make the desert bloom and those who will go far seeking lands pure of the touch of Bolas. Now if someone was really cut loose this could be absolutley fascinating. We see in HoD some of the varied reactions to the Hours that the orphaned and abandoned youths of Naktamun take, whether they remain faithful to the God Pharaoh in spite of the madness and destruction, succumb to despair, or enter violent dissent. It could be really interesting to see the effectively post-apocalyptic society ten years down the road (or even less) when the dust has settled a little and the survivors have formed their own factions. To see how they've adapted to being taken from a life of endless training for warfare alone and thrust into a life where rather than being provided luxury by the anointed they're forced to scratch their own living from a world that doesn't cooperate. Honestly that's part of why I'm sad that Hazoret lives: she gives a nucleus to build a new cultural monolith around, which is FAR less interesting than exploring diaspora and division. A world where the people of Amonkhet have a new (well, renewed at least) god to raise up and to protect them is less interesting than a world where the people must face freedom (horrible, horrible freedom?) and all the burdens and opportunities that come with it.

Maybe Bolas' symbols prevail. Maybe the Pharaoh is so evil that it is drawing upon Amonkhet's equivalent of a pentagram

Zendikar had a component most of you seem to have missed.
They said that the Eldrazi stripping the plane actually exposed more ruins pretty much everywhere.
Add to the fact there basically never was any civilization to speak of on the vast majority of Zendikar thanks to the roil, which should stop now, and Zendikar might be better off than it was.

In Zen 3 it might be neat to see a large part of the population settled into the underground ruins.
If WOTC has the courage to tackle religous(esque) themes then a divided Amonkhet would make for a neat return. Some people think the god pharoh was defeated, some people think it's another test, and others know they were betrayed.

Many new cards to debate. Foremost is one showing a wall of the ancient pharaohs.

So the question is, where did the army go? If I read the cards right the Scorpion God was defeated and that was it.

I'm guessing that either the army got defeated, were spirited away somehow, or they are still there. A lot of the flavor text and art is about people fighting their way out of the city and then trying to make a new life in the desert with Nissa's help. It's entirely possible that the eternals don't leave the city for some reason or another.

If you give a Jace a cookie...

In one of the last Kaladesh URs, did Ajani tell the GW to cool their jets on attacking Bolas on Amonkhet?

He's going to lose his memory of it very shortly.

Yes, and basically as soon as he left the room they decided to go fight Bolas.

...I'm not even exaggerating.
