Funny how the initial response are from semi-defenders. Weird. Why would anyone have any loyalty to WotC at this point?

Even theres no HOU duels update very annoying yeah, but still looking foward to it on paper, I took a break buying paper from Eldrtich Moon till Aether Revolt. Got back in with AMN, HOU for sure, Ixalan haven't decided yet.

Not sure why ya'll dont just move to MTGO. Literally better, the only thing Duels is good for is pubstomping. It got boring after a while.

Well, about the answers on reddit, if you really really really read between lines they didn't say they would update Duels for five years, only it will still be around. Then they compare it to DotP in saying that was an annual release: well, the old DotP are still around too...
It was obviously heavily implied that the difference between DotP and Duels would have been the constant support.

Hehe... I guess if you are desperately searching for a way to give WotC the benefit of the doubt.

If we had actually bought the game, we might have had a case for refunds. Sadly micro transactions are poorly regulated, which is probably one reason why businesses like to use them, aside from the point that people are usually willing to pay more in microtransactions than they are willing to pay for a game.

So there have been quite a few naysayers over on MDR. I just posted this:

I'm still super curious to know why that happened. I wonder what the problem was.

It was a conspiracy. They wanted all playstation players to wait for the PS4 release. Then (what was it) 9months or a year later they would announce that it wasn't coming. Knowing that us PS4 players are hardcore and don't accept losses due to **** they knew we would all migrate to Steam/iOS and BUY all the cards that had come out in the first year so we could catch up and be competitive without grinding. PS4 players don't grind. We wreck face.

So, WotC and Stainless, as well as the lizard men from the earths center, and Trump (because, **** facts, who cares that he wasn't even running for pres at this time) all conspired on this to make millions and millions, if not Billions, (because come on, we all know that PS4 players are the master race and we're all rich) in the process.

Makes sense.

Except that the interface sux ballz and the only "features" they put effort into are new draft formats because that's where the money seems to be. As a frugal/casual MTGO player since 2006 the only bone they threw us was EDH. V4 killed table banter with its godawful "chat" feature and the pathetic attempt at a 2HG interface got no love despite them saying it was on the agenda for over a year. And then, when they were about to release the 2HG oriented surge mechanic, they decided that they couldn't be bothered to implement it properly for MTGO so they axed the 2HG format with some bs pretext that it was no longer popular. That was when I finally gave up on MTGO and sold my collection.

The real joke is that despite their efforts to make the format unplayable there was still a cadre of diehard junkies - enough that it never took that long to fill a table. I remember counting the number of running 2HG vs 1v1 game on the last day and over half of the tables were 2HG. Which meant there were more players playing 2HG than 1v1. Still bitter...

Anyway, if you are a pure Spike looking for good competition or if you are a draft junky with fat wads of $$ to blow on your habit, by all means MTGO is the way to go. If you're more of a casual jank builder, don't expect much love from WotC.

It's true - they can't make profit on janksters.
It's sad, in some way.
However, on the other hand, it's awesome: WotC won't give a carp if you just proxy every card you need for your casual matches with friends.

But they did make money off of me. Drafters sell their unwanted singles to bots or card stores to fund more drafts. Casuals buy cards from bots or stores. Event tickets are the de facto currency for in game transactions so casuals buy them from wotc store and spend them at bots. Drafters get paid in tix which they use to pay for drafts. Most bots operate on high volume low margin trades to be competitive so as middlemen they weren't taking a huge cut - most of the money ends up going back to wotc. I prolly took a small loss on my collection when I sold it and it sold for $1850. Granted that was built over a decade of collecting, but it goes to show how much they made off of ONE janky.
