It's happy hour at the Playing Coward tavern on Ihn Gallad, and Huinn, Last of the Darkwings , Auric Avarius, and Sorinne Datharius are carousing. Suddenly Morgezka Shanak arrives in search of heroes to slay a terrible Drake. Who will rise to the challenge? And can Huinn be trusted?

Okay. A. The Playing Coward is a weird but oddly awesome tavern name. B. Huinn, Auric, and Sorinne carousing is basically nightmare fuel. C. Morgezka showing up anywhere Huinn is will be bad news for our draconic friend. D. Morgezka's a dragon, and needs absolutely no help taking care of a drake. And E. No, Huinn can't be trusted.

Lumina then tries to set up Larasa with Sava Pith despite really wanting to go with Larasa herself Things get more complicated when Morgan of Voor crashes the party! It turns out Morgan is awesome, and he becomes the life of the party! Aria and Cyrryc decide to investigate the tale.

It sounds like the travelling bard took some serious liberties with his interpretation of "Before the Dawn."

Sorinne Datharius wants to learn about the history of Dark Rabiah, and so gets drawn into complex political intrigue by Lady Nasina. However, Nasina is suffering from exposure to mycosynth spores, and will only help Sorinne if she goes to Regatha to see The Duchess about a cure. The Duchess knows about the cure, but will only give it to Sorinne if she can locate The Inferno Amulet. Sorinne searches for it on Helkavin, but only finds a prism. At this point, Sorinne gives up on this side quest.

This is all surprisingly plausible.

It's a high stakes game of cards on Aliavelli between Larasa Farleth, Eyeless, and Denner Fabellian.

I think Eyeless is at a slight disadvantage playing cards. Also, this prompt made me realize how crazy-good at card-counting and card-cheating Denner would be, having both a flawless memory and the ability to know where anything is, like, say, any one of the cards in a deck...

That **** comforts The Duchess, and things start to seem better for her. Together, The Duchess and Raiker head off to explore Aralheim...in bed. Raef decides to investigate the tale, but Ygraine stays on The Infinite Library.

I would say that neither Raef nor Ygraine have the right idea here. I would never, as Raef does, explore this story. That's...nightmare fuel. But I also wouldn't stay in that library with that creepy child...

Antine and Sava are a very strange combination. I like it.

[Alessa starts to deal. Denner shakes his head.]

Alessa: "Yeah. I know."

I had a very similar thought, with the same two characters. The only difference is that in my version, Alessa is getting increasingly frustrated that every possible future sees Denner playing the hand exactly right.

And now I'm imagining them playing against Antine, who is gleefully unaware at how thoroughly he's about to get taken for a ride.

Alessa can literally alter chance.
...She'd probably end up drunk to deal with the backlash, but it would frustrate the hell out of Denner.

That seems odd and interesting to me. With Denner's information, what counts as chance? Is it the deal? Denner should know where in the deck a given card is once it's set. How about the shuffle? 'Randomization' is occurring, but Denner might be able to track a card through the shuffle. Assuming the shuffle isn't being performed by either of these two or the one shuffling isn't skilled enough to manipulate it in a controlled (rather than chance) fashion, I guess Alessa would influence where the cards would end up and Denner would know?

I feel if we go deeper down this rabbit hole we'll hit debates over the Copenhagen Interpretation.

I always feel like I should watch more Futurama. I never did much when it was in its first run, but a lot of what I've seen since is pure gold.]

Quote:
Raleris needs help interpreting an ancient scroll, and The Duchess is the only person who can help. Which is unfortunate since Raleris and The Duchess briefly encounters Illarion Vale.

This is just begging for some sort or explanation.

Quote:
Donagut is investigating a violent assault on the continent of Sarpadia and his suspects include Auric Avarius, Kahr-ret-Taris, a planar native, and the Eightfold Lotus. To his surprise, all the facts point to... Auric Avarius!

I love this prompt because sometimes it seems a legit mystery and sometimes Donagut seems like Inspector Clouseau. This time he probably got his man, but probably shouldn't be surprised.

Quote:
Ygraine of Segovia has gone missing, and now Donagut goes in search of her. The search takes Donagut from Keter to the center of the World Tree and finally to Dark Rabiah, where he finds that Ygraine is attempting to uncover the secrets of religion.
He's also a great searcher because he could be investigating a missing person or he could be just a little Javert. Also I have a feeling he calls Ygraine "doll" to the confusion of everyone.

Quote:
Raiker Venn finds that assholeself captured by a very strange army comprised of Octopuss, Spawn Rogues, Illusion Elfs, and even Troll Volvers.

What is a Volver anyway. I mean, really? Why is it still a creature type? Is it some sort of innate Dominarian Voltron? How does that interact with being a troll? Can they assemble into strange super forms? I ask this because I assume the Troll Volvers were how they actually got Raiker captured, using strange and undefined Volver powers.

Quote:
Morgan of Voor attempts to explain mathematics to Beryl, the Heart-Scarred, but Morgan realizes he doesn't know anything about it!

Internal Monologue: ... I'm a historian! I know plenty about mathematicians! but it seems like I need better to go past basic algebra...

Quote:
Rishima, Queen of the Black Sands ventures into Arbagoth. There she acquires the artifact known as The Ythol Annulus from Raiker Venn. After the experience, she is left suffering from delirious hallucinations!

Aaaaand a delerious, hallucinating supervillain has attained an artifact of ultimate power. That seems like Raiker alright. Payback for the Troll Volvers?

I feel if we go deeper down this rabbit hole we'll hit debates over the Copenhagen Interpretation.

The way her chaos magic works is to create a bubble where the normal rules don't apply. So, in the sense of Find the queen, she could splice a limited space from a reality where the queen never left the deck. And that's not even getting into the extreme improbabilities where reality straight up doesn't function in the same rules.

But explaining the magic does diminish how it's Magic.

For whatever reason, I'm imagining that the "crime" Denner is trying to bring Beryl to justice over was that time she stole Astria's birthday cake, and something about that seems inordinately cute to me. :)

Aloise: "You said yourself that she's wanted on three counts of pastry theft. Cake isn't a pastry."
Beryl: "Astria never was very good in the kitchen."
Denner: "I smell smoke coming from yours."
Beryl: "..."
Aloise: "..."
Denner: "..."
Beryl: "...Shut up."

Alessa Rehn does an Aubedore reading for Lia Xin in the "Crossroads" pattern.

For the corners, she draws the Mute (inverted), the Orphan (inverted), the Anvil, and the Lost (inverted).

For the spokes, she draws the Archmage, the Fish (inverted), the Manacles (inverted), and the Well.

At the Crossroads, she lays the Dreamer (inverted) vertically as the destination, under the fate card of the Teacher (inverted), which is horizontal.

Lia Xin is very confused about its meaning.

Very interesting. The fact that The Mute came up as the very first card for Lia Xin is very telling, and yet it was inverted, and connected to The Archmage. Perhaps this indicates that Lia "speaks" through her magic? Or maybe it is suggesting that Lia will encounter a powerful mage who is her opposite? The strong aquatic theme, with the Fish and the Well coming up, is also interesting, as is the fact the all but three of the cards came up as inverted. I don't blame Lia Xin for being confused by this reading.

Well, I think you nailed the inverted mute/archmage connection. The Inverted Orphan alongside the Inverted Fish suggests that, per orphan inverted, she might find her place, so to speak, and the fish inverted could indicate that the place of that occurring would be a dry: this would be auspicious given the fact that she was most recently seen coming into some wealth in the Waste of Jakkard. The remaining two spokes are harder to interpret. The inverted manacles play well with the inverted orphan, but the meaning of the anvil is somewhat hazy. It suggests, perhaps, that craft or industry will be a source of liberation? Lastly, we have the Lost Inverted leading to the Well. The inverted Lost indicates, perhaps, an entity that is found, an entity that is seeking, or an entity that makes others lost. The Well, well, what is a well? It is a source of water and life and as such is something of a center of community and creation. It's an origin, center, and source. If we take Jakkard from what we know about Lia and the previous spokes, though, a Well could simply indicate a town -- a place that is found or makes lost.

All this is looking OK for Lia, but then we get the crossroads. Both the Dreamer Inverted and Teacher Inverted are pretty grim, potentially. The Dreamer Inverted could be just the sacrifice of fanciful dreams for practical reality, but even beyond the necessary tragedy in that, it could also indicate that Lia will suffer in such a way as to make of her a cynic. The Inverted teacher, well, I doubt Lia will be doing much teaching so it probably doesn't represent a student? It could be a non-traditional teacher though, perhaps indicating that Lia's growth towards the Inverted Dreamer won't be governed by any entity, but rather that she will learn by general experience and at the hands of the world.

... It's not perfect, but I kind of want to keep this in mind for when I get to Lia's next story arc as there are ways the reading could kinda sorta predict it.
