Kryder, I had a rules question cuz something weird came up in my match tonight against Sleephumper and we wanted to see how this would get ruled in case it happens during a competitive match (we were just playing King of the Hill so it's no big deal).
The game is pretty close, Sleep is at 2 life and I'm at 15. Sleep is attacking into me with Gideon and Disciple who he has to pump 8-9 times to win. So Sleep starts pumping him and eventually runs out of time at 7 pumps. So he brings me down to 2 life. I then get to swing into him and if Gideon's emblem wasn't there, I would have technically won.
So here's the question. Sleep would have won the game if he had the time to use Disciple enough. He says there was a bug, on my side it simply looked like he ran out of time.
So in real life Magic, he would have won there, but in Duels, I could have technically won. But the time limit is an actual real constraint that needs to be played within. If you don't finish your turn cuz you're thinking or playing a labour intensive deck, then you're out of time and you pass the turn.
I just didn't know how you would rule this. It's obvious that Sleep is going to win the match. But cuz he times out, i could possibly have won the match. If this was Fight Club and it was two different players in a similar situation, how would you rule it?
First of all, it depends whether or not you and your opponent contest a win there. If you clearly could see he had the win but he didn't, for whatever reason, to finish you off, you can always call the game in his favor and report it as such. Good sportsman and all that.
If you do not agree he had the game, it then depends on whether or not I had video to go with it.
If he had video that shows some serious network lllllaaaaaagggggg, more than likely you guys would replay the match (though it really depends on everything else on the board and what you, the opponent, has available from his POV). With your video as well, if available, I can make a better determination as well.
If there are no videos and you are both in disagreement, you'd replay the match, plain and simple.
