Amonkhet block constructed when HOD drops could be interesting. Let's finish this tournament before we start planning the next one though. :p

Fair enough:P but yeah i think block would be pretty cool at that point.

decks I could spit ball off the top of my head:

inn block humans
inn block mill
inn block spirit
inn block bant tempo(or u/w tempo)
inn block vamps

oath drazi
oath b/w allies/lifegain

kala NRG decks(B/G, R/G, G/U etc.)
Kala Vehicles
Kala Mill fog/dynavolt?
Kala control?

Amk monstars
Amk zombies
Amk cycle.dec

plus the other like 10 decks i missed.
block seems like it would be more than diverse at that point.
I'm sure grixis control will be on the rise in the next set with everyone wanting to jam bolas.

I really hope they eventually add an option for best 2/3 where game one who goes first is random but the loses goes first for the following games.
sideboards would be a bit much but having the seperate option would really help people who are getting into magic get the feel for how constructed really works.

While I was excited for block, my honest reaction to the changes is relief. I was worried about having a deck made in time for either format, the one week push-back is great for my personal schedule. Count me in :)

Planeswalkers,

It seems there are some potential players who are a bit perplexed by sideboarding. My apologies for not addressing this...I've been playing since 1995, so sideboarding is second nature to me and I didn't think of those who have not played tournaments recently or at all. So, I will update the OP with sideboarding instructions to relieve the confusion.

Sideboard
A sideboard is a group of additional cards the player may use to modify his or her deck between games of a
match. The sideboard will consist of no more than 15 cards. The player may use these cards in his or her main deck during all games after the first one in a match during the top 8, final 4, and final match.

Before the beginning of the second or subsequent game in a match, players may change the composition of their
deck by exchanging cards from their deck for cards in their sideboard. This is a one-for-one exchange, meaning if you started the match with a 60-card deck and a 15-card sideboard, after sideboarding your deck will still have 60-cards.

Players are not required to reveal how many cards they have swapped from their main deck to their sideboard.

The deck must each be returned to their original compositions before the first game of each match.

If a penalty causes a player to lose the first game in a match before that game has begun, neither player may use cards from his or her sideboard for the next game in the match.

Edit: I killed the one-for-one exchange. If you want to increase to a full 75-cards games 2-whatever, that's your call.

Kryder, I had a rules question cuz something weird came up in my match tonight against Sleephumper and we wanted to see how this would get ruled in case it happens during a competitive match (we were just playing King of the Hill so it's no big deal).

The game is pretty close, Sleep is at 2 life and I'm at 15. Sleep is attacking into me with Gideon and Disciple who he has to pump 8-9 times to win. So Sleep starts pumping him and eventually runs out of time at 7 pumps. So he brings me down to 2 life. I then get to swing into him and if Gideon's emblem wasn't there, I would have technically won.

So here's the question. Sleep would have won the game if he had the time to use Disciple enough. He says there was a bug, on my side it simply looked like he ran out of time.

So in real life Magic, he would have won there, but in Duels, I could have technically won. But the time limit is an actual real constraint that needs to be played within. If you don't finish your turn cuz you're thinking or playing a labour intensive deck, then you're out of time and you pass the turn.

I just didn't know how you would rule this. It's obvious that Sleep is going to win the match. But cuz he times out, i could possibly have won the match. If this was Fight Club and it was two different players in a similar situation, how would you rule it?

First of all, it depends whether or not you and your opponent contest a win there. If you clearly could see he had the win but he didn't, for whatever reason, to finish you off, you can always call the game in his favor and report it as such. Good sportsman and all that.

If you do not agree he had the game, it then depends on whether or not I had video to go with it.

If he had video that shows some serious network lllllaaaaaagggggg, more than likely you guys would replay the match (though it really depends on everything else on the board and what you, the opponent, has available from his POV). With your video as well, if available, I can make a better determination as well.

If there are no videos and you are both in disagreement, you'd replay the match, plain and simple.

Ok thanks

What if it's just the time that ran out, with no lag?

On top of that I sent him a message about it but as I was typing the message I missed the chance to use disciple to tap his zombies as he progressed into the attack phase. I learned an important lesson there and in this instance Gideon's emblem saved me.

It was obvious to me I had the game won but the timing was an issue twice. I'd suggest to anyone in this sitiation focus on the game and send "that should be gg" messages later.

If you are recording it will be obvious who is dead on board but more so it's obvious to both players as well and shouldn't even have to go to kryder.

Barney understood but we agree this could be an issue if a player wants to try to steal a win on technicality.

I've also experienced the timer running our when using her ability.

To negate this, I would zoom in on another card like say a land on the battlefield, then you can start using her ability again. Hope that helps.

I agree with Mackey.

Can not it be a tournament like always?

Kraas hasn't been on here in a couple of weeks but I wanted to wish him a happy birthday, yo. I had no idea he was so close in age to me

Really sorry to hear it :( It's 1 in 3 that don't make it. We lost our first as well, not fun at all.

I'm not in the tournament either

Your English is really good btw, you should post more when things get a little brighter for you and your wife. Happy birthday man

i ran into this timer situation. opponent realized he could win but timer ran out. i had winning board state after the turn but i didn't argue at all. he took the game win. it's an act of honesty. we play tourney for the fun and fame so any good act earns us some good reputation that goes beyond the game. especially i eventually won the other 2 games to snatch 2:1 match win.

I'm sorry this also happened to you :(

Thanks again for the words of support.

About the tournament I can not wait to see decks list, in my opinion esper control having censor and essence scatter will dominate but tokens or even thopters + anointed procession can do well also.

That sucks. We're also one for two (but at least it happened super early on). I didn't know it was still a widespread problem.

Unless I'm mistaken, decklists are due at 1800 EST on the 20th. That puts the deadline at just over 66 hours out at the time of this post.
