Even if these "Trials" are a one off, my arguments still stand. And why change things for this once? It would be even more confusing for the casual player.

If something isn't broke, don't fix it.

My opinion, but like I said I hope I'm wrong.
And obviously I wish everyone in the tournament a great time.

Well, I wasn't going to play anyway, but I really dislike the changes. No offence to Kryder, it is his tournament and props for doing a great job every season with it. But all the important changes... block constructed,sideboards... That's not Duels anymore. How do you play test this when it is not even part of the game? I remember that Hakeem started the tournament to attract more people in the community and to highlight the game and meta. With this you complicate it more for the mainstream gamer, and let it become something for only the hardcore Magic players that the community already has. The idea was to have a tournament that was fun to play, watch and represent the meta. I'm pretty sure that there will be less viewers on the channels. Why would people watch a tournament of a game that doesn't represent the game anymore? They will see the game in a form that they will never be able to play and can't learn anything about the meta or deck building because it gets nerfed.

Other than that it will be vehicles all over the place again in a season that is not about vehicles. Control will see almost no play the first rounds, bye bye diversity...

I hope I'm wrong about all of this though, I really do.

You're cherry picking though - the tournaments already step outside the typical Duels limitations and it's Bo1 format. Just like shifting to Bo3, top 8 Bo5 will (at least slightly) reduce variance and put more importance on player skill and deck building. Sideboards may be a matter of opinion, but they're no more or less part of Duels than the Bo3 format.

Hopefully block constructed won't be as bland as you believe but, at worst, it's a shakeup that takes up less than half of the Swiss rounds.

I hate the "it's not Duels" argument.

Am I sitting at my xbox? Did I boot up magic duels? Am I playing the game? Yes? Then shaddap.

Magic's a simple game, 2 people take turns playing cards and in the end Divinevert wins 2-0...

Just to clarify, does this mean that if I am not playing in BFZ/OGW that I cannot use the rare lands from that set?

I dunno, Mackeys got a point. Were these tournaments too popular? Was that the problem? And we had to get participation and viewership down?

I don't get it. Is it entertaining to watch a top 8 where one or more competitors has absolutely no chance because the others remaining happen to have the proper hate cards? Vice versa, is it fun to watch an outlier trample the opposition because the competition didn't prepare the narrow answers available?

In my opinion, no to both. I'd want to watch players making meaningful decisions against each opponent. Matches decided before the games even start are entirely pointless.

What you want to test with sideboards? You have just a card pool that is 15 cards wider, then you can exchange cards when needed. For example if you are vs.
a controll deck exchange the removal against something more usefull in your sideboard, thats it.

Not what I was expecting.

Not long to come up with a deck that fits a block and beats vehicles...

I don't even think a fraction of the people here even know how to build a proper side board.

We have nothing to worry about

So just ask for help or something.

If it makes you feel any better, sideboards are only for the Top 8, so you should be safe.

the last time I asked for help from a Magic player, they lied to me and misdirected me so they'd have a slightly greater competitive edge in an upcoming tournament.

You know, Magic players.

Best way to build a sideboard.

Play the deck you want to play.
Each match keep right down the deck you're facing on a list.
(right down the obvious meta decks first, vech, superfriends etc.)
have a column for wins and one for losses.

This will give you a rough understanding on which decks you don't have a problem against and which you do.
Some may be like a 50/50 so you may want a card or two in the sideboard for that.

Then just adjust accordingly.
Deck crushes the field but dies to vech? have a trans-formative sideboard and just bring the hate.

it's a lot of work.
The deck i play on duels has a 100% win rate vs walkers and like 90% vs vech.
so i really don't need too much hate for them.

my sideboard would be more geared towards Gx decks where it's more 50/50

Not yet i only just signed up to this forum today, thinking about entering. still not 100% on which decks i would play.
A bit stumped on what to play for block.
I have an idea, but i don't know how strong it'll be. hoping the vehicle match up is okay.
