 Post subject: [BREWING] Gruul Fling

Okay, so Fling is one of my favorite cards from back in the day. I'm gonna attempt to make a Gruul aggro deck that can win without Fling but wins 2-3 turns quicker with it.

Deck Name: FlingaDingaLing

Blossoming Defensex3

Bloodrage Brawlerx3 - Highest power T2 play available in Red. If he goes it may be worth swapping out Tempers for other burn
Lambholt Pacifistx2 - Highest power T2 play available in green. helps curve into pressure
Key to the Cityx2 - Increases reach and card advantage.
Flingx4 - Obviously
Avacyn's Judgmentx2 - flexable removal and possible finisher

Lathnu Hellionx1 - may not be right card. Possible slot for Fleetwheel Cruiser
Rhonas the Indomitablex1 - makes fling better. Will be active with most of the creatures w/o needing pump ability. trample good
Khenra Charioteerx3 - trample good
Fiery Temperx4 - good synergy with Keys Minotaurs and Hazoret

Heart-Piercer Manticorex2 - Stand in for Fling
Impetuous Devilsx2 - Possible 12point play with Fling. Locks down a blocker and almost guarantees damage
Mina and Denn, Wildbornx2 - Trample good. Also combos with Looming Spires
Zendikar Incarnate - Hello Fling and Trample, can you make me GREAT?

Verdurous Gearhulkx1 - Could be a Glorybringer. The +4/+4 into Fling deserves testing. Liking this guy during testing so far
Outland Colossusx1 - Could be a Glorybringer. The potential for 18 damage in 1 turn deserves testing

Looming Spiresx2

My initial feeling immediately is -1 Return, +1 Charioteer. Mass trample removes chumping just as well as 2 global damage, except Charioteers turn sideways.

Mina and Denn feel expensive and slow. Also, you're lacking Voltaic Brawlers. I don't think the Spire synergy is worth it. Side note; change Spires to Hubs if you make this change, probably.

Avacyn's Judgment should probably be a 1-of. Makes room for the 3rd Voltaic. You can probably get by with 1 Manticore, and I think the Gearhulk is very expensive for what it does; you're generally hoping it increases your damage by about 4 that turn, possibly more later. For that same 5 mana, you can cast Insult // Injury's first half and Fling. That will probably do more than 4 immediately.

I haven't experienced Hazoret yet, but the Incarnates are probably great with mass trample. If we allow for all the changes proposed, I've left you a free slot by dropping a Manticore to experiment - or use the 2nd Insult with. Outland is probably very much worth testing with Fling. Outland would also make good partners with Samut, Voice of Dissent if Hazoret doesn't work out.

How did this work for you? I did a Temur Ramp deck that had Manticores and Incarnates. The deck was ok but I'm not thrilled with it. Thinking now about converting it into Temur Toss, utilizing Enigma Drakes and Zendikar Incarnates.

Something like this:
2 x Sylvan Advocate
1 x Rhonas the Indomitable
3 x Enigma Drake
3 x Zendikar Incarnate
2 x Heart-Piercer Manticore
1 x Greenwarden of Murasa
1 x Torrential Gearhulk

1 x Chandra Flamecaller

2 x Heaven // Earth
4 x Fog
2 x Fling
2 x Radiant Flames
1 x Kozilek's Return
2 x Pulse of Murasa
2 x Insult // Injury
3 x Spring // Mind
2 x Explosive Vegetation
2 x Baral's Expertise

24x land - using base from Temur Ramp list, just can't recall specifics at the moment.


Rhonas to give trample if I can untap w/ Drake/Incarnates. Version clogged at the 3/4 spots, but in testing Temur Ramp, the sweepers buy time and wanting to test fogs too because they're easy to hold up mana for after casting other spells. Only put this together on paper, but will be testing later to see how bad it is. Wondering with your experiences playing your list, how much you liked the general idea in practice?
