Fwiw, that was always going to be a bad strategy. But yeah, I feel your pain. There's a new enchant nobody's been talking about, which may not be have bad: 2 mana Compulsory Rest, which may actually be playable in control (color, strategy dependent), and is certainly cheap enough. We definitely don't care about giving our opponent's life in control decks.

Based on what I saw yesterday, I'm switching to midrange strategies for the time being.

Having to use that on a Scrounger is gonna suck :/ The sorcery speed is a big killer too, I'd probably run Aether Meltdown over this. I'll be trying the Dimir build when I unlock what I need for it, I suspect I'll have to trim some of the pricey spells for Meltdown too.

Like I said, color dependent. It might be worth a look in certain decks as a 1 or 2 copy enchant. Agreed that putting it on Scrounger is no Bueno. But so is any other removal you'd choose that isn't exile target Scrounger.

I've always advocated Rakdos cars instead of Boros or Mardu in duels since Kaladesh dropped. I remember even then this beast would kill on turn 4 - 5 consistently.

This deck is smashing all the Steamers trying out Simic Ramp lol.

I wasn't a convert until last season, but I'm all over it now. I'm not as 100% certain it's the best deck anymore, that's up for discussion, but it's definitely the best vehicles deck imo.

I ran my own version of this deck during AER that was very similar. I played it well once in the KOH tourney as king. Beat the mighty unbeatable. The second time I played it Natasha6 owned me very hard with a grixis control deck that had an answer for every single card I played. He never held up mana for 2nd main, I couldn't touch him. He counter picked this deck with a instant speed removal pile and I walked right into it.

This helped me realize that Mardu's true advantage over Rakdos is Giddeon. Grixis control has to hold up mana to counter a Giddeon or they lose. If you aren't dropping any plains or planeswalkers that will help you grind advantage then counters aren't necessary and your removal are dead cards vs their empty board, empty until a turn 7ish Disciple of the Ring.

On the ladder this deck is brutal but it does have a weakness to heavy instant speed removal control.

It's crazy how fast the meta is right now. My experience yesterday: I knew if I was going to win, or lose by t3 every single game. It was nuts. I need to take a second look at some of the decks I plan on running.

I have been thinking about how fast the meta has been and I think the meta is going to be even faster with red-x decks and vehicle decks storming down the gates. Early counters and removal will be more important than ever.

I wonder if harsh mentor would be worth looking at as tech vs other vehicle decks? Could give you the edge in fast aggro vs aggro matches and I don't think you would lose speed running an easier to cast 2 drop.

@DJ: Saw your comments on the First Impressions thread about opening hands, by any chance was it this deck? Because that seems to be the driving force behind my loses more than anything. You already know about the swap of a mountain for a swamp due to Black mana flooding, but there were an atrocious amount of mulligans I had to do because my earliest play would be T3. :(

EDIT: Just to be clear on matchups, I think Simic Ramp is probably just not there yet so I can't claim my 17 wins against it mean much atm. Against the discard aggro shell thats running around atm, its 50/50 depending on those draws. Control hasn't had much of a showing, but an annoying Grixis Dynavolt thing kicked me pretty squarely in the junk due to 3 toughness being a focus of most removal atm. This is still a good aggro deck, but I'll be trying out the other Rakdos brews when I unlock the cards to see if its the best Rakdos has to offer.

Yeah it was this deck: I still won all but one of the games with this deck. It's definitely harder to play though, when you never get to 3 or 4 mana lol. There's nothing wrong with the mana base, odd that we both had bad luck with it right at the beginning: buts it's just a coincidence.

I was having the same issue with Zombies, which runs 25 lands ;)

I had the AI use Compulsory Rest on my Scrounger, I was quite fine with letting it do it.

Been browsing through some of these old threads, this is a fine build, one of the best to be sure. My one concern is that the mana is a bit iffy, I think 3 foundry of the consuls may be excessive.

Oh and as far as the control matchup - vehicles are nice, but there are ways to play around them. but the Scrapheap Scrounger is what really makes this a nightmare matchup. "Run cheap answers" - that is nice, but the cheap answers don't exile. It really depends on whether Scounger shows up. Unfortunately it feels like scrounger is a turn 2 play 75% of the time.
