The "other" guys name was Rob I believe and he's a long time Magic veteran whose been playing control for the better half of 10 years.
He too also believe that Censor is hot smoking garbage.
It's literally the only way to counter a t2 Smuggler's Copter, or Heart of Kiran when you are on the play with blue. You can certainly build decks where that doesn't matter, but come on. Calling it garbage is just flat out ridiculous. It's a semi-situational counterspell that replaces itself when needed. It literally makes
open mana relevant, regardless of whether you are playing the card or not. Even Rob said, if I remember correctly, that people would just play off curve in order to avoid it.
Let me be clear about this: his analysis is exactly why the card is good, and yet somehow he called it bad. If you make my Aggro deck play off tempo, out of fear of censor, you probably just won the game. That's a ton of power from a card you're calling garbage. But hey, to each their own.
He was arguing that in duels no one is playing on curve and incidentally will play around this card without trying to. Nighthawk and the other guy (that was a self proclaimed control pilot) were arguing that isn't necessarily true.
I think it's good for the exact reason DJ stated, it's very presence will slow down aggro players. Once the set drops I will at least hesitate to drop
Gideon ally of zendikar turn 4 into my opps
. That's what the card does, just like all counters, allows you to leave open mana and essentially bluff or have it they don't know.
It makes aggro decks play around it or get countered. Slowing down the game is what this card is about.
