The F&S forums get their crack pairings, the constructed forums get their wonky combo decks, but this is Future Set Speculation, and our guilty pleasure is baseless speculation. So, post the crazy cards that you think are coming out next set, because even if your brain tells you no, your heart tells you that YES, there WILL be a phyrexian eldrazi planeswalker in Born of the Gods!

This thread is for discussion and speculation on all cards not spoiled by WOTC or another reputable source.

Kiora Atua may be in one of the latter Theros sets as a planeswalker card. Her name even translates to involve gods and the monstrous mechanic for sea creatures seems to fit with her theme. I can kinda imagine she'd get an emblem with something like, "Blue creatures you control gain monstrous 2 for ."

I also suspect that Born of the Gods will feature a version of Xenagos with the transform mechanic, like Garruk Relentless, who transforms from a planeswalker to a god card, and the final Theros set will feature a powerful God Card version of Xenagos who removes all gods from play when becomes a creature, based on the set pictures and lore hinted at.

Also predicting:

A Satyr with a lotus theme that basically grants the user mana and taps another target creature at the same time (sharing the lotus drugs). Something like Satyr Lotus Dealer or something, probably green/blue or green/red.

A card with an Achilles mechanic (a weird indestructibility with a loophole).

A Heracules based card as a Heliod related hero or lesser god, probably as white/red, which has high power and benefits in some way from killing monstrous creatures.

A Helen of Troy based card that forces creatures to attack or something, or has a similar mechanic to the Akroan horse where she is given to the opponent when she enters the battlefield and then benefits you, or something related to her famous beauty, perhaps making it so that god cards can't become creatures while she is on the field?

An Odysseus based card, probably a legendary blue colored one with protection from red, who has some kind of leader effect.

A fleecemane lion pelt artifact equipment that grants indestructible or something to it's bearer.

A Rod of Asclepius based artifact equipment or snake creature that has something to do with healing or curing or preventing poison and/or disease.

I doubt they're bringing back flip cards so soon. Generally they try to space out mechanic reuses a bit more.

Satyrs are typically g/r, as shown in destructive revelry and satyr hedonist

The Achilles thing is possible, and I think it's probably going to happen.

The R/W lesser God is Iroas. I could see some interaction with monstrous though.

I'd love to see Odysseus. He was probably my favorite character from Greek mythology, a hero with wits and a motivation other than glory and violence; his family. He's like the ancient Greek Walter White.

The fleecemane lion pelt thing could just as easily be an aura.

From time to time they do have mechanics show up more often so they become more "normal" parts of Magic. Not saying that flip cards would be that way but I think they could sprinkle in a flip card or two per block at rare or mythic and it be interesting.

I would love to see more monstrous design space explored, as in cards that interact with monstrous creatures differently, or use it as a resource somehow.

I feel like Xanagos will not be seen again as a planeswalker, as I don't believe they've ever had two of the same planeswalker type in a block before.

I agree on monstrous. It's pretty boring right now with few constructed playable monstrous cards. I have a feeling that since Theros was the first set they kept the cards pretty simple and they'll get more interesting cards in the mix with the next too cards. I hope at least.

I could see that with some other mechanic, but not flip cards. It would be a major hassle for limited.

Not if you just put it on a Mythic rare. Monstrous to flip sounds cool, right?

I dunno, it seems like it might add more complexity that it would be worth.

Double-sided cards need to be printed on their own sheet. I don't think they could just print one for a set.

Double sided cards also need a checklist card for sleeveless players.

Ah, you guys are right. I didn't take the printing process into account when thinking about that. I suppose that makes my point moot which is unfortunate because it would be really cool as a one of here and there.

I'd suggest those flip upside down cards from Kamigawa, but I'm not particularly fond of making everything super-tiny. Didn't like the fuse cards much because of the aesthetics of them too, even if they were mechanically fun. And the aesthetics of something like a planeswalker or god seems more important.

WOTC has stated that the Kamigawa flip cards can't be printed again because they act screwy with the new borders.

That's unfortunate but at the same time, those cards are an aesthetic nightmare.

A "Pantheon for the Win" card is something I speculate for Journey into Nyx. Something like;

"If you control 10 or more Gods, you win the game" or something like that.

I'd build that token deck....

That'll be the Modern dream ;-)

They might go the Maze's End route and require different names, but you get the point.
