Hi,
I will be voicing my opinion on the multi-color uncommons we are due to get in the next expansion. As with all set that came before, each one had an uncommon and sometimes a rare for each dual color combination. I might go back to do that for previous sets but I will do this set now.
(1)
Honored Crop-Captain - We've already been introduced to
Consul's Lieutenant in Origins and
Hamlet Captain in Eldritch Moon. One draw back however was that you'd need to first successfully deal damage with Lieutentant in order for the effect to be useful, which can prove difficult when facing 2/3 bodies. Another is it's initial 1 toughness which is now more likely to die to
Walking Ballista than anything. Lastly, both cards were only best when paired with many other 1-drops or tokens. This time around, we've got a 3/2 which can crew Heart & Flagship and support a "go-wide" strategy in
. Not my kind of creature but we've already got a home for her! The only thing really missing is a universal first strike or indestructibility effect.
(2)
Khenra Charioteer - This makes pump spells more flexible, has an immediate effect on the board with a solid body to boot. I'm not entirely upset with this card!
(3)
Enigma Drake - Speaking of Stormchaser, we've got another compliment to a
Prowess deck. This time however, we've got a chance of getting
Fling which combos very well with this card BUT folds to Unsubstantiate. Almost reminds me of
Zendikar Incarnate...what ever happen to that guy?
(4)
Wayward Servant - We've seen
Kalastria Healer propel allies into a rather commonly played deck on ladder but not one person has brought it here. I don't believe that being an uncommon with a restricting color requirement will entice people to play it in our tournaments either but I reckon we will being seeing this guy on ladder in the coming weeks!
(5)
Weaver of Currents - It seems to want a home in
Ramp but may be too similar to
Lifespring Druid which hasn't seen any real play. Are potential turn four 6-drops going to enable this in our meta? I for one doubt this.
Shadowstorm Vizier - Cool name but cannot hold a candle to
Stormchaser Mage!
Abn-Crop Champion - Vigilance every other turn starting on turn 5 isn't something WG Human decks are excited for.
Aven Wind Guide - Tokens don't need flying.
Merciless Javelineer - Vanilla 4/2's for 4 are bad.
Decimator Beetle - 5 mana for no immediate effect on the board doesn't making it compete with the many mythic and rare 5 drops that are popular right now. At least it survives Grasp of Darkness...
