Nighthawk wins 3-0!Game one my draw lined up really well vs his, with his aethersphere harvister being killed by my rec sage and i got some insane luck when my first grapple flipped over a kozilek return, meaning i had the fuse ready whenever i wanted to with a deep fiend in hand. Eventually i pulled the trigger and a misclick with blossoming defence meant instead of saving a creature his board got sweeped any way and i was then able to tempo him out with a second deep fiend.
Game 2 was another grinder where a turn 3 nissa could've been problamatic for me to deal with, however a topdecked baby chandra allowed me to kill it (and was then immediately killed by a fleetwheel cruiser) then i drew an Ulamog so knew what my gameplan was, i just made the board as cluttered and awkward as possible for him and then stalled the game out till i could cast him and that was that.
Again my first grapple flipped over koz return so i had a safety blanked i could use at any time, this meant roma couldn't really put the pressure on without risking it all.
Game 3 was by far the best and it started with... A mulligan to 5 from roma. I was expecting an easy game after that but his draw was kind to him and he ended up going OFF with snek + gearhulk making a 4/5 snake/ 6/6 hulk and a 8/5 fleetwheel for reference that's pretty hard to beat!
I ended up stalling over and over with chump blockers and pulses just to stay alive (must've gained well over 30 life this game) and eventually i drew a scuttler to flashback a expertise to take the pressure off at least - it was not over there however as he kept throwing it all at me while i was making horrific misplay after horrific misplay meaning instead of closing the game out i ended up at parity and eventually behind again. Luckily my draw was kind and i eventually managed to put enough pressure on that i few blank draws from him meant he couldn't recover - i cannot stress how badly i played this, definitely my worst game in the tournament after the halfway point into the game.
GG's Roma and congrats on second place finish, he's a really nice guy as i found out after our post match chat
Also thanks Kryder for hosting another great tournament, and for making that post after round 1 saying "nighthawk try and get some wins first" which motivated me to become a winning machine alongside the allure of the Reddit tag
