Link would be nice. (Unless it was brought up much earlier in the thread, in which case, ignore my stupidity.)

I'm only a couple chapters in, but it reads like sad pictures for children, only halfway philosophical/metaphysical and using the collected drawings of the most talented 1rst graders.

The further you get the more developed his style becomes, and the more detail he adds. There's other stories and short stories after this as well.

Great Work so far guys.

So far I have only read through Unsounded, and I have only started Gunnerkrigg, but everything looks good. I simply thought pennyarcade was a standard (which I hate their archives), but now I realize their archives just suck. Every single other thing I have seen so far has had every page available instead of penny arcade's let us say "search bar".

Speaking of which, there are parts in it which should be rated R, but Unsounded was very very good. The lady who writes it dedicates more time to the art than almost anything I have seen anywhere.

Since I plan to read every single one of these that I can stand, please keep them coming.

I am a third of the way into Gunnerkrigg Court, and I would have to say that is defnitiely worth recommending also.

You're kidding, me, right? What sane person doesn't have an archival system (even if it's as much of a pain as tumblr's)? Yet another reason for me to not visit Penny Arcade.

Gunnerkrigg builds up slowly, and gets extremely different by the current time. Speaking of which, I think I'm like a month behind...

Did I ever mention Spinnerette? I can't remember if I have and I'm too lazy to check.

Penny Arcade has an "Archive". But all it really is is a search bar. The only way I could navigate their site was to remember the name of the last page I looked at, and then use their search function. Like a 100 pages in........ no. Was not worth it. And this was literally my introduction to webcomics. I just recommended the 2nd and 3rd I've read so.... I am going to keep reading now. It really is just penny arcade.

Ava's Demon is probably next on my list.

Penny Arcade is a great comic if you like gag-a-day jokes, crude humor, and video game industry commentary (and nothing is wrong with that; I read the site). But, if you're just going to PA for the comics, you're missing half the site; Jerry (Tycho) writes incredibly eloquent articles attached to each comic, which can be found by clicking the "News" button at the top of each comic.

And Mike (Gabe) is an incredible illustrator, as can be seen very well in some of the longer-forms like Lookouts and Sand.

But, yes, their archives must only exist in the fashion they are due to some intricately loopholed clause in their contract with Satan himself as return payment for the skill they both have.

^^^ The problem is that the articles are linked to the comics themselves. And..... I have to get hooked on the comic before I read the news article. It does look like a good comic, but there is a barrier to entry that I'm just not willing to deal with.

Edit: Finished krigg. Looking at others. I really don't like Darth and Droids.

Edit: The "Tales of Questor" and everything on their site also lacks archives, and.....there isn't even a way to navigate to specific pages unless you start at the beginning and click one by one. I can't do that all in one go, so I don't like that either.

Edit: 20 pages into "The WhiteBoard". This is a no go also. Same with pictures for sad children and saturday morning breakfast cereal.

Edit: The Fancy Adventures of Jack Cannon is actually really really good once you get 10 pages in. For example, this is the part where his parents are trying to explain to him that attempts on his life are not normal for a boy his age.

So I finished the Jack Cannon one. It was a nice story, but they update it very infrequently and ended on a cliffhanger.
Since I'm going in order, the next one that caught my interest is Ava's Demon. It's good, but there are screens like this one that are just depressing:

Spoiler

Edit: 3 Chapters in I can't stand the character's in Ava's Demon. And this is from someone who liked Unsounded.

Yeah, the site recently had some malware infection troubles and had to be reset to an earlier, terrible software incarnation, which wiped out the archive system--last I checked they're still in the process of rebuilding, and the creator is having health troubles so that could take a while.

Knowledge knows no bounds.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

So I pushed through and finished Ava's Demon. It got a little better, but word of advice.......
Every single page is the equivalent of one panel. So while they are 8 chapters in....

The story basically hasn't gotten past chapter one of what you would see in the average book. Everyone is either a super nice person or a complete #$%, and there literally hasn't been time for any character development. Period. I'm interested enough now that I'll check back, but.... not much has happened yet.

Anywaws, 4 down, what should I read next? It's probably going to be the String Theory one.

Most of the time I don't bother with archives anyway. I start at the beginning, binge for as long as I can, and then bookmark whatever page I end on. Then I start from there the next time, and repeat.

^^ I definitely will once I finish this 10 page paper. How far in do I have to be before we can discuss? Also, you should read Unsounded if you haven't already. ...... Maybe start with Chapter 2 and read chapter 1 later.

Honestly...... I am going to end up trying every one of these eventually. I'll probably even go back to some of the ones I skipped once this thread dies off........

Also, just a heads up, if you type the name of any of these followed by comic, then google will give you the desired pages as your first link.

Talk whenever you feel like. I've read all of it. Same with Unsounded fwiw.
You should get a moderately good impression of the comic around chapter two, while the art starts to kick in around chapter 4 I'd say. However, as much as I'd hate to say it's, it's chapter 5 where it really starts to pick up and become interesting. There are some strange plot related happenings around the second event in the comic.

^^ Yeah. Finished Chapter 1 and so far main dude is a cad. Also the cat talks.

What did you think of Unsounded btw? I thought it started a little slow and annoying but really picked up in the second chapter.

I have the hoots for Schtein.

My main gripe with Unsounded is all the names that I can't relate to anything for the life of me. Every location name is effectively meaningless as it's just a massive blur.
The art is great, the characters are appreciatable, and I really like the concept of pymary. It sometimes goes too deep to the point where it's hard to follow what's going on, but I like it overall.
