Zendikar Farguide

If our previous pick ends up in our deck, we failed. Quite badly. Act your age, guys.

It's just a friendly discussion on the merits of a 1/2 flyer for 3 in limited. I'm sorry if it appeared as anything else.

Farguide. And I agree Bard is terrible. They are all terrible. It's like why the infighting is so bad in Academia: The stakes are so low!

I played Bard once. It was pretty sweet. Of course, that was an ally deck I drafted, with like 10 of the dudes.

And the second part of that made me actually laugh.

It's also why I left academia. Only to work in... hospital academia. D'oh!

In my defense, I did say I wasn't going to squabble over a 23rd card.

Sunspring is surprisingly effective against single minded aggressive decks. It's basically a fog, which is an ok sideboard option to have. I would not pick it over crush, but I'd pick it over cancel.

So: crush, croc, expedition, blight

My initial reaction was to go cancel but at least you have a reason. Although it seems like as fog it comes down awfully late and is telegraphed.

It's telegraphed, but what are they going to do about it?

well part of the utility of fog is the surprise factor, countering combat tricks or blocker removal. And considering that fog is only marginally useful in limited anyway...

Well... this isn't a fog, it's life gain. Even if it wasn't telegraphed, it wouldn't affect combat tricks or blocker removal.

It's similar to fog, in that it buys you a turn, which is the main reason to play fog against an aggro deck, but there are differences.

I'm not saying it's the best card in the world, but it's something I see myself siding in in some specific situation (and I actually have sided it in before). Unlike cancel, which we'll never use and isn't really worth a hate pick IMO.

Today, I had my opponent play Thassa's Bounty with two Horizon Chimera in play. He drew three, went to 22 life. Next turn, I attacked for 24 (monstrous Nemesis and Asp, two Disciples), and he conceded. Life gain by itself is irrelevant, if it's not tied to something like Ordeal of Heliod.

But here, it doesn't matter what we pick, so I?ll leave the vote to you all.

The relevancy of lifegain by itself is entirely dependent on the matchup, hence why it's a sideboard card. It's useless against a midrange deck such as the deck you seem to be describing, but useful against aggro.

It's a bad card we're not going to play. Why is it always about arguing horrible cards with you? It's not a discussion to just disagree with people, especially on the worst cards. Pick your battles, yah?

It's a useful SB card and I'm explaining why. I'm not just disagreeing with people, I'm actually explaining concepts, such as "just because life gain was useless in one situation doesn't negate it's usefulness as a sideboard card".

If you want to draft optimally, you need to make the right choice in every pack, whether it's between two bombs or between a hate pick and a sideboard card. Each pick is worth discussing.

Cards that do nothing but gain life are bad in every matchup besides mono red burn. There is no mono red burn in Zendikar.

I typed up a whole thing explaining why sideboarding reactive cards is bad against aggro, particularly with this deck, but in the end decided to go with sarcasm because I didn't want to incidentally buy into the "discussion."
