hahaha, that was fun...now I have to make the aftercontest thread :P

Btw, for me, that I tend to do the testing in 2-3 marathon session in the first week, the sooner we know next theme, the better

Do it, I think I had something pretty fun going until I realized cards like Whirler Rogue don't count as artifacts, lol. It was kind of hilarious the way this one went down behind the scenes.

I was like, ah crap, this deck meets basically none of the requirements, hah. Needs less white, more blue, more artifacts.

But anyway, the version that runs a hidden stockpile instead of the third underhanded designs, and black removal instead of Esperzoa is a much better deck (with no requirements, I'd suggest Anguished Unmaking). There were some other minor differences, but these were the main ones.

Yeah, that's a bit unfair...I mean, I got a 3.5 for flavour for just playing 13 artifacts...but except removal, all the cards in the build were artifac-producers or artifact-centered...3 Weaponcrafts, 3 Whirlers, Herald etc :V

This time I think I'm gonna rant about how to approach deckbuilding, taking as example this contest...I can't think about making/tweaking 10 Dimir artifacts :gross: decks after the playtesting overdose, lol

10 were a lot, i always thought that 6/7 are a fine amount, but i cannot accept the first 6 decklists since it's not a race and we want optimized decklists. Anyway i always accept suggestions, even rant is good :)

I can only say that could be a very spicy idea or a very bad one, depending on the consensus. But forget tier 2 decks...

It's gonna be 'build around razorfoot griffin', isn't it?

I won't be surprised to see it somewhere :P

Oh snap, it's going to be an all commons challenge! :hand:

Or an all starter card deck challenge maybe.

Are that many cards? I mean, that would be a bit limited, isn't it? Pauper would be good, tho

Yeah, tell the theme as soon as possible, pls, and then give until April 8-9 to submit, 10 days are more than enough, imho

I'd love an Enchantments contest, but I'm afraid it will turn into a game of Thrones intended

Yeah, I def was harsher on theme with the first 2 decks. I think initially I had this idea that decks that used artifact based interactions as the core of the strategy (like arti token generators with Designs) should score higher than decks that used artis in more straightforward ways. But by the end of the challenge its was just like, "yep artis and yep Dimir 5/5". I'll prolly make theme a 2pt field next time. Either you are spot on for build criteria (perfect 2) or you deviate slightly by using a splash or somesuch (1pt) or you ignore criteria and submit something that has nothing to do with contest (0).

When we look back at the history of this community, it'll be cool to see the pioneers that figured out cool activities that got members engaged in Magic Duels.

Hakeem started organized play here, with the goal of growing the community through shared content.
Kryder not only picked up that banner but has elaborated the events into cross-platform and the widely popular tournaments we have today.
PureSynthesia started league play with King of the Hill that keeps players engaged with regular organized play.

I think the way these contests are going, Giocher will be one of these pioneers as this is the first really interesting thing that has got deckbuilders interacting with each other. It's also the first entry-point for new deckbuilders to get on the map and to get people talking about their builds.

great job, joker

And then we recognize the true pioneers, like Vert, who have conquered every possible format.

If we go with the mono idea, I've got an idea about how to test the decks. There should be enough diversity to be able to pit the decks against each other in a mini-tournament. This idea wouldn't work with Dimir artifacts since that would get boring real fast.

Anyway, I already got an idea-a-brewing. If we don't go with that theme, I'll just post it in the constructed thread, because its not at all that bad... (kicked the Ai's butt, for all that's worth...)

Honestly, if we did D-cards only, we'd need a similar approach. Can you imagine trying to test the decks on steam ladder. The last decks tested might have a shaot cuz by then your ratings wiuld be in the teens. Pitting them against each other would be fun, but AI is prolly more meaningful since the only way people would want to play such decks is to farm gold without having a collection.

I don't think d cards deck is going to be a contest. There's no way to compare a boros aggro vs simicenergy when the decks look completely different with different focuses.

Mono deck probably but again comparing green stompy to blue tempo isn't all that fair. There's hardly a better build when they are totally different.

But Duels Pauper would be good...I was fiddling a bit yesterday with that concept, and there's like a half dozen of possible builds that are quasi-playable, if underpowered...and Pauper+5 rares/mythics would be really fun and gives more room for originality
