Fun debate!

Now both of you have to test the deck and leave feedback :D

elk

I will be completely honest with you Elk. Mono :g: Stompy has never really been my thing, but it isn't like I have a whole lot else better to be doing until the next set drops. Well, at least outside of testing out derpy decks that probably won't amount to much (Vortex, Cowl, etc) or trolling people online with my Fog deck.

I will throw the deck together tonight and give some more relevant feedback. Although to be fair, there probably isn't a whole lot I will be able to add to the discussion that Nighthawk and yourself haven't already covered. Being that the two of you have been riding the Mono :g: Stompy train since well before Duels and know pretty well what a deck like this does and doesn't want.

I have been running it, but I haven't been playing duels. Been too busy working and getting in a little mass effect. :D

The first thing I did was pull the rec sages + bellower and add the big lizard back in and 2 blossoming defense. I want to win Godzilla style when I play this deck.

Eon's right, sage is a much better choice in this deck than instant removal. Being able to Primal bellow on him can win it for you so in that sense even the mana dorks are a threat. I think I like the idea of playing to win instead of answer but these agro decks can be so fast.

Just another thought. Do a quick search and see how many decks you can find that have ever run plummet (not just duels).

Found a site you can search by card. http://www.mtgtop8.com

Here's a spicey little RG energy build that is running 2 Plummet in the SB. It earned it's pilot 1st place at a PPTQ in Kyoto with 37 players.
http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=14654&f=ST

20 x LANDS
4 x Aether Hub
7 x Forest
4 x Game Trail
3 x Mountain
2 x Spirebluff Canal

22 x CREATURES
4 x Bristling Hydra
4 x Electrostatic Pummeler
3 x Greenbelt Rampager
3 x Longtusk Cub
4 x Servant of the Conduit
4 x Voltaic Brawler

18 x INSTANTS and SORC.
4 x Attune with Aether
4 x Blossoming Defense
4 x Invigorated Rampage
2 x Larger Than Life
4 x Uncaged Fury

SIDEBOARD
3 x Appetite for the Unnatural
4 x Harnessed Lightning
2 x Heroic Intervention
2 x Plummet
4 x Woodland Wanderer

I really do wish we had access to Attune with Aether.

See this is how we get ya. You're all "I'm not interested" and we get you to try it (the first one's free!) which leads to you getting hooked and then you're all...

I believe by your first sentence here implies that you've at least tried it? Any chance you ran the deck before making cuts? Any thoughts/feedback?

Aetherwind Basker is awesome. It's just such a fun card. I have been testing without it recently though just because Ulvenwald Hydra seems better on paper. A lot in the deck has additional value to it and Basker's :e: just wasn't useful if the card got removed. Hydra at least got a land that could be of some use or if we already had Rogue's Passage, Hydra at least added to the land synergy in the deck. It also has reach which gave it some additional utility. Regardless, I don't disagree with with running Basker. It's just too great to not enjoy. If it doesn't get removed, it wins the game which is an fantastic bomb. I mentioned previously that I've left Blossoming Defense on the back burner for the sake of more action/value cards. The big threats are tough to interact with and I'm ok with my opponent targerting Trackers, Bellower and Gearhulk (or an Advocate/ Duskwatch). Most of those cases, we're likely to have gotten some value out of the cards prior to their removal (hopefully ;)). Since I'm testing w/o Basker currently, the only reason I'd still consider Blossom at this point is for Rishkar's Expertise and Monstrous Onslaught. Still; just like the 24th (or more) land(s), it's never off the radar.

currently testing:

-2 Rishkar's Expertise
+2 Blossoming Defense

and if I'm going to run Blossoming:

-1 Plated Crusher
+1 Aetherwind Basker

Rishkar's is awesome but I wanted to test w/o it and see how it plays (the deck is drawing reasonably well now). Since Ulvenwald Hydra is working out well and we're still sad Basker is missing we're going to test Defense again. We'll see how that feels. I just worry about the Rishkar cut. I was usually casting it as a huge dig for an answer card which probably saved quite a few games against faster decks. I guess we'll see!

Missing the Rishkar's Expertise save so I'm adding one back in for now while I tinker w/ Blossom. I'm going to stick with the Hydra for now so it's -1 Aetherwind Basker. :(

It might be worth testing all the Rishkar's and all the Monstrous Onslaught since that's my most frequent target with the Expertise.

I still have yet to try out the set of Arborback Stomper too. There's potential merit in a stabilizing option w/ trample.

Yeah agree with you on the Riskar's, i think most of the time i'm grabbing the onslaught, occasionally another fattie or pump spell if the board is fairly clear.
I moved up to 3 copies and haven't regretted it so far, you generally want to see at least 1 per game and while we can dig deep for it it's pretty bad if say we bottom one with a duskwatch or something.
