Like they included Primal bellow which is a nice reason to stay mono green, i'd love it if they gave each other colour a card like that to make mono colour more rewarding.

Blue - Can't think of anything too fitting engulf the shore or Cryptic command maybe?

Red - Ball lightning

White - honor of the pure

Honor of the pure coupled with Always watching would be a lot of power for the white weenies.

Cryptic would be sweet.

I wish they gave us more of the energy cards and artifacts to help us build on those themes like attune with aether, deadlock trap and pacification array.

Nightmare holds a super special place in my heart. i love that card.

My first rare card was Flashfire. Of course, this here card retrieval thin shows much newer art than I had back in 1991.

When Pokemon came out there was a TCG mag I used to collect, forget the name, but I convinced my folks to buy me a starter deck that I promptly found no one to play with since, you know...Pokemon. The only card I remember from it was Thicket Elemental (hard to find when you type "MtG Bramble Monster" into the search bar) so that counts as my first I guess, until RtR when I actually bothered to look into Magic.

I know nothing about Invasion, was it a good set?

EDIT: On further browsing, I can confirm it was the "Heavy Duty" Theme Deck.

Since I started playing Magic with a Kamigawa pre-con deck (a pretty bad one by today's standards), I have had two first rares. That being said, Kumano, Master Yamabushi holds that place in my heart whereas Kusari-Gama does not.

Wow, and looking at the old cards I just noticed that the english text on Kusari-Gama reads "Whenever ... deals damage" whereas the german version reads "Whenever ... deals combat damage". Didn't know it was strictly worse to play a german Kusari-Gama than an english one.

I had two Kamigawa pre-cons: Snakes (which was great) and like 12 copies of Rats (the greatest precon ever).

Oh yeah, Rats was kickass, and had I known more about what was good and bad back then I would've probably grabbed at least four of the Rats pre-cons as well. Nowadays they don't just put cards like Jitte in pre-cons...

The precon was like $11 while the Jitte was reselling for $20. WATTBA

Also the deck was decent. Turn 2 Fear attacker into Ninjutsus like Throat Slitter or Okiba-Gang Shinobi, and the predecessor of Emerge with Patron of the Nezumi.

B3, was the mag InQuest or Scrye? It would be cool if it was InQuest (I used to write for them). It would be cool if your first TCG mag happened to be one i had an article in, and that's where our love began.

After looking up some covers they had around that time neither, assuming mine was some bargain-bin UK version.

UB Ninjas was hella fun tbh. Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni wasn't in the precon, but he was an absolute house. Same with Mistblade Shinobi.
