I've decided that I may as well collect all my ICD threads into one. No sense clogging up the board when I feel creative. Plus, now I have everything on hand. But the real winner here is you- the people, because now you have all of my genius on hand too. No need to thank me. I already know.
Fury-Rune Berserker Creature - Human Berserker Fury-Rune Berserker enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. Remove a +1/+1 counter form Fury-Rune Berserker: Fury-Rune Berserker gains double strike until end of turn. 2/2 I just thought this seemed fun.
Devolve Instant Destroy target creature. If a creature is destroyed this way, that creature’s controller puts an X/X green Ooze creature token onto the battlefield, where X is equal to the destroyed creature’s power.
This one's pretty far out there, but I think Beast Within makes it possible. If this is too good I can make it a sorcery to keep it from being able to "save" your doomed creatures. I'm also not sold on the name, anyone else got a good word for, "reduce to a puddle of still-living goo"?
I could have knocked down the berserker's cost, but it's ok.
Council Room Land When Opponent’s Choice Dual enters the battlefield, target opponent chooses two colors. : Add one mana of a color an opponent chose to your mana pool.
So yeah, only good if you run a lot of colors, or have friends.
Emergency Aid Instant Target player gains X life. Charity - If you cast this targeting the opponent with the lowest life total, or tied for the lowest life total, you gain twice X life.
Basically, it's anti-Dethrone. Except much less specific.
Edit - changed Emergency Aid from "another player with the lowest life total" to "opponent with the lowest life total" to keep this in check when you are playing with team mates.
Trawling though my MSE files to see if I already had a ready-made card to enter into a contest, when I found some stuff that I thought was worth sharing.
Call of Command Instant Put your commander onto the battlefield from the command zone. -Fun fact: You can play this in legacy, but it won't do much. For EDH players it's flash and possibly a reduced cost on your commander. Of course, you're also using up a card to play a card you already had access to.
Estatemonger Creature - Human Monger : Each player may search their library for a basic land and puts that card onto the battlefield tapped. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 2/3 -Anybody remember MagicPablo's Confederate Endeavor? 5 new 4 colour commander decks. I made this for that. The wording on these caused me a lot of problems.
Growth Spurt Instant Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. That creature gets an additional +1/+1 until end of turn. -I've had this one for a while, but wasn't sure if I shared it yet. Not exactly out of the box thinking but I like it and it seems printable.
TPcardsW 3 has exactly one good card, balanced out by a "meh" and a "burn it in a fire".
Starstill got me thinking, so here's some cards I made with rebound.
Seed Cycle Sorcery Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.) Lands you control are 2/2 creatures until end of turn.
Image
-I've always been frustrated with how making your lands into creatures requires tapping those lands, thus rendering them useless.
Lingering Silence Instant Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.) Players can’t cast spells this turn. -That'll teach you to cast spells! Protects the alpha strike.
World In Ruins Sorcery Rebound (If you cast this spell from your hand, exile it as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast this card from exile without paying its mana cost.) Destroy all creatures. -For when you want the board to stay clear.
TPcardsW 4 is all rock solid and even a little clever.
Mindscape is the first idea for a set I ever worked on. After downloading MSE, I figured that I'd probably only work on one set before I got tired of it, so I went ahead and combined all my favourite themes into one set. That's how I came up with the enchanments-matter, monocolour, political-intigue-heavy, dreamworld full of colorless nonartifacts of a clusterfrack that is MIndscape. Looking through some of the cards though, I found that a suprising number were pretty nifty. These are a few of those cards.
Purity is a mechanic I made to encourage monocolour decks. It reads "Purity- If only one color of mana was spent to cast this ...". It's an ability word that I used to create a whole bunch of effects.
Prismatic Knight Spirit Knight (U) Purity- If only one color of mana was spent to cast this, put a +1/+1 counter on another creature you control when ~ enters the battlefield. Otherwise, ~ enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. 1/2 -The design that inspired Purity. It only has Purity because I retconned it on there, like 30 seconds ago. -Basically the design reflects white's selflessness. If you only used white mana, then this guy would use his +1/+1 counter on somebody else. -Lots of creatures with purity would get a +1/+1 counter as a bonus. There were two cycles that gained additional abilities as long as they had a +1/+1 counter on them. This lead directly to the creation of a +1/+1 counters subtheme.
Death Mists Sorcery (R) All creatures get -2/-2 until end of turn. Purity- If only one color of mana was spent to cast this, only creatures controlled by opponents get -2/-2 until end of turn. -The mists were a big part of Mindscape's flavour. Basically any area not being witnessed by a conscious observer would slowly degenerate into this dream-fog that covered the whole world. Inside the mists stray thoughts and strongly held beliefs would take physical form.
Force of Growth Creature - Spirit (C) Purity- If only one color of mana was spent to cast this then as it enters the battlefield put a 2/2 wolf creature token onto the battlefield. 2/2 -This actually strikes me as a really solid card. Great incentive to go for purity, but playable otherwise. It's also at the right cmcso that Purity is attainable, but takes effort.
Refute Instant {U} Counter target spell. Purity- If only one color of mana was spent to cast this draw a card. “I reject your reality and substitute my own!” - one of the Mythbusters, don’t know which. -Yep, that flavour text is all original. I'm pretty sure that it was Adam Savage who said that by the way. - Years later now, and I'm still not sure if this is OP (but it probably is).

I went over the Purity mechanic last time. Here's some of the less pure moncolour support the set had.
Celestial Mana Loop : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Activate this ability no more than three times each turn. : Add W to your mana pool. - I figured that a monocolour enchantment set should have enchantments for its mana rocks. Also drafters would need a lot of them so there's a whole cycle. -I spent so many hours trying to get these to work.
Horizon Meadow Land (C, or looking back it could totally go in the land slot) : Add to your mana pool. , : Add to your mana pool. - Would you believe me if I told you that there wasn't a cycle of these? No? Okay. - It's not very sexy but it does the job.
Blank Space Land : Add to your mana pool. Whenever another land enters the battlefield under your control, you may have Blank Space becomes a copy of that land until end of turn. -This was intended to let you cast cards with heavy colour weight in multiple colours. One turn it's the second plains you needed, next turn it's an Island. Of course you could always just run another basic land instead.
Absolutely no connection etween these two cards. I just like them both.
Undead Wholesaler Creature - Human Wizard (R) Whenever a nonzombie, nonskeleton creature you control dies, put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield. Whenever a Zombie creature you control dies, put a 1/1 black Skeleton creature token onto the battlefield. 3/3 New or used, these deals can't be beat! Credit on all trade-ins!
So yeah, he turns people into zombies, then strips down old zombies to make skeletons. Profit going in, profit going out. Hellagreat as a way to get extra value out of sacrifice fodder. Substantially more mediocre in Zombie tribal. Mostly I like the flavour. _______________________________________________________
Elizabeth Beleren Planeswalker - Elizabeth (M) +1: Draw a card then discard a card. -2: Exile a card from your graveyard. Search your library for a card that shares the exiled card’s name and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library. -6: You get an emblem with “Whenever you draw a card. Target opponent discards a card”. 3
This was made for a contest to design the child of Jace and Lilliana. Imagine the family dynamics! "Moooooom! Dad's reading my mind again!". I think I won the contest, but I don't remember. I do love this cad though. It just feels so neatly interconnected.
#7 Undead Wholesaler got a hugely positive response. Beleren seems just short of being a fine card.
Back on the WOTC forums somebody posted an OP elf lord and made some comment about power creep and how its printing was inevitable. I responded by remaking Goblin King and bringing it up to the same power level. WARNING! reading the following card may cause you to: lose control over your vocalizations for several seconds, fall out of your chair and roll spasmodically on the ground, wet yourself.
Goblin God-Emperor Creature - Goblin Goblins you control have haste. Goblin creature cards may attack from your hand. You may cast goblin spells without paying their mana costs. Whenever a goblin enters the battlefield add its mana cost to your mana pool. 2/2
I carry my cards in a fat pack box redecorated with custom card print outs and this one always gets a laugh. Back to the point, overpowered tribal lords and Alpha references briefly became in vogue on the WOTC YMTC forum, or at least on that one thread. Others helped flesh out the cycle and I made another contribution as well:
Masterful Lich Lord of the Dead Creature - Zombie Zombies you control have death touch, undying and swampwalk and get +1/+1. Discard a card: Put a zombie card from you hand onto the battlefield tapped. Tap X zombie cards in your graveyard: Return target creature card with converted mana cost X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. 2/2
There was a rather interesting discussion about which card was most overpowered. I think it was generally agreed to be the white one.
#8 These were actually sort of a big thing back on the WOTC site, but failed to elicit a response a second time. Obviously either of these would warp the game if printed.
The debate on the COTW thread reminded me of some old designs of mine. I didn't think that was the place to post them though, so I made this thread instead. I think there's at least enough design space in coloured X mana symbols for one set. Maybe not as the main mechanic, but why would you want X spells as your gimmick anyway? I'm thinking a coloured vs colourless set or something.
SidetrackX Instant Counter target spell with converted mana cost X or less. (X can be paid with any amount of blue mana)
JumbleX Choose one — • Tap X target creatures. • Untap X target creatures. (X can be paid with any amount of blue mana) "Well, you didn't expect me to just twiddle my thumbs while you launched your assault did you?" -According to gatherer this almost got printed in Rise of the Eldrazi as a colourless X spell. I think tat's what inspired coloured X mana in the first place.
Fire-StartX Instant ~ deals X damage to target creature or player. (X can be paid with any amount of red mana) "Burn, no burn it more! More! Hahaha!" - Belvan the fire-starter, war mage of Ked. -Finally a fireball variant that makes sense as low cost removal.
AngstX Sorcery Gain control of target creature with converted mana cost X or less until end of turn. Untap it. That creature gains haste until end of turn. (X can be paid with any amount of red mana) Give the rebel a cause.
#9 Colored X mana is my most contentious proposal, but I stand by it. These all seem printable given the right circumstances.
Seat Of Power Land : Add to your mana pool. : Add to your mana pool. Use this mana only to cast your commander or pay the cost of your commanders' abilities. -A must have for certain commanders, but I don't think it's too good in those decks. Unless Candelabra of Tawnos is your commander. Might be too obvious of an inclusion in those decks though, and that makes deck building less fun.
Spread The Word Sorcery Each player with the fewest cards in hand draws a card, then you draw one card. -A draw spell that sucks in control. A card for the tempo decks I suppose. It can be a powerful effect, but it takes some work to spam it. Maybe some sort of storm deck could do stupid things with this. If necessary I could reorder the abilities.
Original Version

#10 Nope.
TPCardsW 11: Bed Of Chaos plus other randomness
TPCardsW 11
Two cards about randomness that I came up with at work and another random card that is all about choices. Mostly I'm just hoping to et somebody other than ty (me) nominated for this COTW.
Bed Of Chaos Artifact , : Put a 1/1 red Spawn creature onto the battlefield. Roll a six-sided die. The power and toughness of Spawn creatures you control become equal to the result. (This effect doesn't end at end of turn).
>Basically I just like the tension this creates. If you get a good roll do you want to take advantage of it, or expand your army. Basically I'm giving red random chance effects that are bound to work out over the long term. It seems like a cool thing for red to do in EDH, where, let's face it, red lacks things to do.
Heart Of Chaos Enchantment At the beginning of your upkeep, put a 1/1 red Elemental Spawn creature token with haste onto the battlefield. Then flip a coin. If you win the flip, Spawn creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. If you lose the flip, Spawn creatures you control get -1/-1 until end of turn.
>The execution is sort of clunky, but I actually like how making a creature then immediately sacrificing it highlights the chaos theme. This is real chaos, beyond your control. Well, unless somebody plays it with an anthem effect.
Three-Fold Trial Sorcery Choose two: - Target player sacrifices an artifact. - Target player sacrifices an enchantment. - Target player sacrifices a creature. Learn to bear loss as you can and hold fast what remains. - Abzan teaching
>Something like Choice Of Hardships would probably be a better name, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a Wheel Of Time reference. Nothing about this is random at all. That little curveball is how it fits the randomness theme.
So yeah, these are lands. Um, talk about them and stuff. Nominate them, give me prizes*, shower me with accolades. *Non-internet prizes preferred.
Uncharted Expanse Land Lands you control enter the battlefield tapped. : Add to your mana pool.
I was quite proud of this card until it was pointed out that Amulet Of Vigor broke it. Recently though, I realized that with NGA constructed being a thing that might not matter. If it still is then I have some alternate rules text that sacrifices elegance for vigor-proofing: "Whenever another land you control would add mana to your mana pool, if it entered the battlefield this turn, instead it doesn’t."
Court Of Arbitration Land : Add to your mana pool. : Add to your mana pool where X is the number of lands controlled by the opponent who controls the fewest lands minus the number of lands you control.
Catch up land. If ramp decks ever dominate a format this is the answer you want. I suppose there's a really risky strategy in there somewhere too. Play less lands but make them all this and you could be swimming in mana. Anybody think I could ease up on the restriction and make it "Add X to your mana pool where X is the number of lands an opponent controls minus the number of lands you control"? Or would that be too good in multiplayer?
Communal Grounds Land : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Each other player untaps a basic land they control.
Aiming for multiplayer fun/powerful fixing with a dose of "play basics guys!" thrown in. Is this too weak? I'm considering adding a tap for with no drawback to it. If I want to push it I might make it tap for instead of one of any colour.
#12 Uncharted Expanse is surprisingly good. I did a good! Court's not really worth it. Communal Grounds is alright.
So I came up with a couple designs that fit the theme of berserkers, and then I realized that berserkers have a pretty loose theme. So I decided to put forward a few propositions to better the community's direction in regards to the design of these regrettably scarce fellows.
Berserker tribal identity: The unifying theme is aggressiveness. Berserkers want to hurt things. Hurt them immediately, hurt them a lot, hurt them constantly. They don't approach things strategically and may lose a lot of value if played off curve. They are not control cards. Common attributes: Power higher than toughness, must attack if able, resembles Primal Forcemage, haste and etb effects among other upfront rewards, encouraging attacking.
If your card design has more than one of these attributes please consider making it a member of the most macho of Magic's many much-maligned mainstays.
Eager Cleaver Maybe Willing Fodder? Frontline Fireclaw, Bloodmad Brute, Eager Cleaver? Goblin Berserker Haste During your first turn of the game ~ costs less to cast. 2/1 "So eager to shed blood, until forced to realize theirs will be shed in turn" - Zakon Godhammer So I figure this is pretty fresh design space. Serra Avenger and Gemstone Caverns are the closest we've seen from WOTC.
Charging Redblade Creature - Human Berserker Haste When ~ enters the battlefield it gains first strike until end of turn. 2/2 "Always, just when you think you've beaten them back" - Zakon Godhammer Kind of tempted to make this a tribal lord that gives a one turn bonus to all berserkers. Maybe enter it in the FTV.
Barbarian Warchief Creature - Human Barbarian Berserker If Gemstone Caverns is in your opening hand and you're not playing first, you may reveal ~. If you do, you go first. Haste When ~ enters the battlefield, put two 1/1 red Human Berserker creature tokens with haste onto the battlefield. 2/1 I tried to base the wording off of the conspiracy card with a similar effect, but Gatherer wouldn't oblige. A search for all conspiracy type cards nets 0 results.
#13 I got the berserker feeling nailed, even if the cards are only so-so.
So these are mostly things I came up with for tCCCCCC Round 1, but rejected. I like some of these better than my actual submission, but they didn't fit the criteria.
My submission: Beldok-Ran, The Brutal Judge Legendary Creature - Giant Knight {M} At the end of your turn, each player who controls more creatures than you sacrifices a creature. Then do the same for artifacts, enchantments and lands. 5/5 You forget your place little one -on your knees.
--This could really have been monowhite, but I think it works best in these colours. What I ended up submitting to the contest.
Brutal Judgement Sorcery Each player who controls more creatures than you sacrifices a creature. Then do the same for artifacts, enchantments and lands. For each player that controls more creatures than you, return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Then do the same for artifacts, enchantments and lands. "An eye for taking an eye. An eye to replace the eye taken." - Reerkan teaching --This is the card that inspired the one above it. The contest required 4 colour entries to be people or places so a sorcery would have been hard to justify.
Untamed Boar Creature - Boar Overwhelm -Creatures with power less than ~'s power can't block it. If you control a Giant, ~ gets +2/+2 2/2 --Overwhelm's pretty neat. The bit about giants fits my team's set design, but is kind of clunky. I just thought overwhelmed worked best with some kind of power-boosting.
Tilling Wurm Trample Forecast - , sacrifice a land, Reveal Tilling Wurm from your hand: Search your library for a Forest or Plains card and put into onto the battlefield tapped. 4/4 "What greater beast has been put to the yoke? What nation of men can match us? --This guy went through 3+ revisions and I've grown rather fond of him.The Krosan Tusker of the block I suppose.
#14 Offensively mediocre. I do love the name "Beldok-Ran" though. You know that guy means business.
Bound Infinity Creature - Incarnation : ~ gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is its power. 0/2 To chain infinity is to accomplish nothing.
Aimless Wandering Sorcery Sacrifice a land. Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. Put that land card onto the battlefield and put the rest of the cards revealed this way into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.
Ceaser Of Struggles Creature - Vampire Warrior First strike Sacrifice a creature: ~ gets +X/-X until end of turn where X is the sacrificed creature's power. 3/6 "Don't struggle little one, I will put your life to better use" --Still not sure what the best application of this ability is. 13 toughness trampling demon? 4 or 5 cmc creature with just enough toughness to make using the ability a risky proposition? It definitely needs some ability to make bgood use of the extra power. Would first strike be a cool pairing? Maybe something a little more Bloodthrone Vampire? Rock bottom costing and 0 power? Tempted to make a cycle.
Cause mana rocks! Get it? Well the lack of mana rocks in NGA constructed got me thinking, and then the lack of COTW nominations got me writing. Then I saved it as a draft and posted it just now. Here are some mana rocks. I hope they rock your world!
Arcane Lens Artifact : Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool. You may look at the top card of your library. (You may do this at any time.) Jhorv peered into the glass and saw his own reflection reeling in shock. Startled, he reeled back in shock.
Signal Lantern Artifact : Target player adds one mana of any colour to his or her mana pool. Message received. Reinforcements. Dawn.
#16 Arcane Lens still holds up. I don't know about Signal Lantern, but something like it is needed for multiplayer.
TPCardsW 16B: Heaven Forbid you Harvest the Crown Jewels, or: How Did I Have two 16's?
Crown Jewel Artifact Multikicker (You may pay an additional any number of times as you cast this spell.) ~ enters the battlefield with a Veneration counter on it for each time it was kicked. Creatures you control get +1/+1 for each veneration counter on ~. : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
It's a mana rock but it does stuff late game. I came up with this design while trying to remember a really good one.
Heaven Forbids Instant Until end of turn if a card would leave or enter a graveyard, exile it instead. Draw a card.
That name was originally flavour text, but then I realized that with that name, the card wouldn't need any flavour text. Hosers aren't usually sexy, but at least this one is flavourful. Power level seems about on par with Rest in Peace but I'm having a hard time judging it. It's faster but requires mana up and does zip to counter graveyard shenanigans that might happen next turn. Hard to say just how much value you'd usually get out of casting this.
Harvest Season Enchantment If an effect would put one or more tokens onto the battlefield under your control, it puts that many plus one of those tokens onto the battlefield instead. If an effect would place one or more counters on a permanent you control, it places that many plus one of those counters on that permanent instead.
Doubling Season isn't coming back in a world of plansewalkers. This however, seems printable. Plus you can always use it as another doubling season
#16B: I still consider HArvest Season one of the best cards I ever designed. The design predates Hardened Scales, but I'm not sure about Parallel Lives. I think I call this "growing season" now since it's really more about growing than harvesting.
These are a few cards I've been working on that I consider to be above most of the other stuff I've put out lately. Other than that there's no real connecting theme. This is also the post where I (slowly) learn to indent!
Reverb Chamber Artifact , : Put a 1/1 colorless Illusion creature token onto the battlefield. , Sacrifice a creature: Illusion creatures you control become copies of the sacrificed creature until end of turn. Can you not hear the echoes? Those voices bereft of being? Their wailings consume me! - Athadean "the Mad Composer"
So yeah, I just really like this concept. Razor mentioned something about a music set and that's what inspired the flavour. He can use this card in that set, but he has to help me come up with a better name.
The Overbeing Legendary Creature - Incarnation ~'s power and toughness are both equal to the number of permanents on the battlefield. */*
I've had a character in my head that basically was an entire plane. They would exist as both a palne and an entity simultaneously. They were hard to make a card for. They ended up as a really big Beast of Burden. It works though, right?
Failed attempts
The Overbeing Legendary Creature - Incarnation Haste, vigilance, hexproof, lifelink, trample Champion one or more creatures (When this enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you exile one or more other creatures you control. When this leaves the battlefield, those cards return to the battlefield.) ~ gets +X/+Y where X is the total power of cards championed by it and Y is the total toughness of creatures championed by it. 5/5
As long as your devotions to (each colour?)white, blue, black, red and green are less than one, ~ isn't a creature. Massive stats. Cool abilites.
Spark Snuffer Creature - Human Assassin As long as ~ is attacking a planeswalker, it can't be blocked. 3/1 Unchallenged across the breadth of the land. Baharaz turned his gaze outward. Baharaz, the affairs of his empire well in hand, took means to suppress outside influence.
I thought this was a neat way to deal with walkers. Naturally it had to be an assassin. Before black started getting card that destroy planeswalkers this would have been pretty great solution. As is I have to wonder if another colour needs it more.
#17: Reverb Chamber is in NGAC now. I really wish it costs 1 less though. I also wish "Echo Chamber" wasn't taken.
I like Allies. If it weren't for them we'd all be speaking German. Also Zendikar wouldn't have been as cool. Might've been different groups of people I'm talking about there, but I'm not 100% on that. Anyway, here are some allies.
Aetherbender Adept Creature - Merfolk Wizard Ally Flash You may play Ally cards as though they had flash. Whenever ~ or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, Allies you control gain hexproof until end of turn. 1/2 I wanted to make a cycle of multicolor, multiability Allies. It seemed like the natural next step. I never finished the cycle, but I made at least one good one. It's that one up there)
Lead Excavator Excavator Team? Treasure-Digger? Guild Treasurer? Creature - Goblin Ally Whenever ~ or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." 2/1 I wanted something you could use to enable Ally combos. Not necessarily infinite ones though. You probably could go infinite with this, but it's mostly just extra gas.
Guild Windshaper Creature - Vedalken Wizard Ally Flying , Tap two untapped Allies you control: Return target creature to its owner's hand. 2/1 "I suppose I'd make a good sailor, though I haven't ever even seen the sea" Tempo play or extra Ally triggers? You decide.
Edit- god I suck at spacing. Well, as long as PHB does too.
#18: One's good, one's gold, one looks oftly like something from Zendikar 2.
TPCardsW 18 B: No Discernible Connection, or That Feature That Remembers Your Thread Titles For You Is Not OPtimally Designed
One Foot In The Grave Instant Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. As you cast ~, you may remove a card with the same name from your graveyard, if you did, destroy that creature. And there goes the other one.
Not an amazing card but it would be great in dredge. I thought about differentiating this from Tragic Slip, but for the destroy effect to be worth it, this had to be cheaper than doomblade and at cmc 1 a larger -2/-2 would be too good. Does the tense change mess up the wording?
Reallocate Instant Change the target of target spell or ability with a single target to another target with the same controller. Draw a card Stealing? No. The way I see it, we're both part of the same army and we can't really steal from ourselves now can we? - Hawkeye
In my head I've already found an amazing use for this card.
Variegating Wind Instant Choose one:
Destroy target monocolor creature.
Counter target monocolor spell.
I had to use a thesaurus for this one.
Pentagonal Prison Artifact Players can't cast spells with converted mana cost of five or higher. : Put a 5/5 Construct artifact creature token onto the battlefield. Only opponents may activate this ability, and only any time they could cast a sorcery.
TPCardsW 19: At least one CotW here (Looking back, not so great)
Abeyant Efficacy Creature - Illusion {R} ~ enters the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the number of colors of mana spent to cast it multiplied by the amount of mana spent to cast it. 0/0 For a moment it's as though I can feel an incredible power then, suddenly nothing. A mystery for another time perhaps - Professor Oren Yanek
Shadow Of Greatness Instant Destroy target creature unless it has the highest power among creatures its controller controls or is tied for highest power.
Could this go down to ? Also, how the heck should I word that?
Old wording
Destroy target creature without the highest power among creatures its controller controls.
Zakon Brightblade Planeswalker - Zakon Until your next turn, whenever a player attacks you or a planeswalker you control with one or more creatures, that player sacrifices a creature. Target player loses X life. Put X 1/1 white Cleric creature tokens onto the battlefield. Destroy all creatures opponents control. Put an X/X black and white Angel creature token with flying onto the battlefield, where X is the number of creatures destroyed this way.
I posted this card long ago and it was well received but for its ultimate. So anybody have any ideas on that one? I'm looking for a symmetrical effect that fits into a bleed, token or control deck. Ideas so far: Elesh Norn Emblem, Emblem: Whenever a player loses life you get that many 1/1s, reanimation effect?
After 4 months of death my computer has returned to the world of the living! That means I have access to all sorts of old MSE files. That means I'm going to share some. Whoo! I posted these before but that was... 3 years ago now? A long time anyway. I also bring this up because they're multiplayer orientated and we have a couple multiplayer projects going on right now. So you know, maybe...
Arms Seller Creature - Human Soldier Merchant : Put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token onto the battlefield. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 1/2
Book Seller Creature - Human Wizard Merchant : Draw a card. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren't the last player to activate this ability this turn. 1/2
Shadow Seller Creature - Human Rogue Merchant : Target creature gains shadow until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 3/1
Fury Seller Creature - Human Warrior Merchant : Target creature attacks or blocks this turn if able. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 3/2
Estate Seller Creature - Human Druid Merchant : Search your library for a basic land and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 2/3

Book Seller Creature - Human Wizard Merchant : Each player draws a card. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 1/2
Shadow Seller Creature - Human Rogue Merchant : Target creature gains shadow until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 3/1
Fury Seller Creature - Human Warrior Merchant First strike : Target creature attacks or blocks this turn if able. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 2/2
Estate Seller Creature - Human Druid Merchant : Each player searches their library for a basic land and puts that card onto the battlefield tapped. Any player may activate this ability as long as they weren’t the last player to activate this ability this turn. 2/2
Do you guys like the general concept? Do they look fun to play with? Any of them demand fixing/accolades?
I've had some trouble deciding which of two designs I should submit to the YMTS Egypt themed set. Which do you guys like better, this:
Eternal Flame Phoenix Creature - Phoenix Flying, undying Remove a +1/+1 counter from Bennu Phoenix, : Bennu Phoenix deals 2 damage to target creature or player. 4/2
or, this:
Firebirth Phoenix Creature - Phoenix Flying, haste, undying When ~ enters the battlefield, it deals damage equal to its power to target creature or player. 3/3
?
On the same note, should this guy grant hexproof to a creature or player instead of countering a spell? That seems a little less blue (if not I could try it as a card) but I think it could work.Just looking for general input:
Mirror Screen Trap Instant - Trap Counter target spell. If a creature you control is the target of a spell an opponent controls, you may pay rather than pay Reflecting Screen Trap’s mana cost. It's Shiny for a reason.
Your mission should you choose to accept it (Don't. It's a trap) is to help me hammer out a cycle of multicolor trap cards. By reading this far you have acknowledged that you accept this offer (ha! Trapped!). I'm running out of YMTS submissions, so I want to make every one count. I've decided to dedicate most of my remaining cards to completing a multicolour trap cycle and since it's a tough design challenge and I'm up against lots of competition I need your help to make sure these traps are as good as they can be.
Forbidden Scroll Trap Instant - Trap Target player discards their hand then draws that many cards minus one. If an opponent searched his or her library this turn, you may pay rather than pay Archive Trap's mana cost. Knowledge that disempowers
I worry that the pseudo discard effect isn't blue. This should work as a card with a alt cost though, right?
Armed Courier Trap Instant - Trap Armed Courier Trap deals damage to target player equal to the number of cards in that player’s hand. If an opponent drew three or more cards this turn, you may pay rather than pay Armed Courier Trap’s mana cost.
This seems doable in , but I worry that it's unexciting and/or miscosted
Collapsing Floor Trap Instant - Trap Target player sacrifices two lands. If an opponent had two or more lands enter the battlefield under his or her control this turn, you may pay rather than pay Sealed Room Trap’s mana cost.
Is instant speed land destruction a good idea? For balancing, Rain Of Salt and Plow Under both have stronger effects, but at sorcery speed for 6 and 5 mana respectively. Since you'll usually want to use this at sorcery speed anyway I think this might actually be okay.
Artillery Support Creature - Goblin Soldier Artificer When ~ enters the battlefield, put two 1/1 white Soldier tokens onto the battlefield. : ~ deals three damage to target squirrel and each creature it's blocking or blocked by. 3/1
I have a rule that says, "If you play a videogame where you fight a blind assassin who ties explosives to squirrels then trains them to identify his targets by smell so that he can shoot the squirrels when they make noise to blow you up, then you need to make a fantasy fantasy card homage to that character". So yeah, play Zenoclash ]'cause it's got a blind assassin who ties explosives to squirrels then trains them to identify his targets by smell so that he can shoot the squirrels when they make noise to blow you up.
Original
Masked Hunter Creature - Human Assassin When ~ enters the battlefield, put four 1/1 green Squirrel tokens onto the battlefield. : Target creature get -2/-2 until end of turn, if it’s blocking or blocked by a Squirrel, destroy it. 3/3
and then Masked Hunter Creature - Human Assassin When ~ enters the battlefield, put two 1/1 green Squirrel tokens onto the battlefield. : ~ deals three damage to target squirrel and up to one target creature it's blocking or blocked by. 2/3
Storied Sabre Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gains first strike and gets +1/+1 for each card in your graveyard that shares a name with it. equip To wield this blade is to embrace the destiny handed down by your forefathers. You will feel their resolve in every cut you make. I think I posted something like this somewhere, but it might have been lost when one of my MSE saves became corrupted. The original is lost to me. This is the new original now.
I missed out on the latest round of Pro Tour, but that doesn't mean I have to miss out on the fun! So basically, I took commons and made them rarer. It's like my own little Pro Tour YMTC but without other entrants, or grading, or probably any sort of feedback at all.
From Fireslinger to: Spark Hurler Creature - Human Shaman (U) : Spark Hurler deals 1 damage to target creature or player and 1 damage to you. Whenever you cast a red instant or sorcery spell, untap Spark Hurler. 1/1
Plain 'ol White Knight into: Gleaming Knight Creature - Human Knight (R) First strike, Protection from nonwhite 2/1 No nobler man nor steed! Piety exceeding, assures triumph to friend, ensures trouble to foe! - Havland's The Brilliant March
Amoeboid Changeling takes new form!: Lord Of Forms Creature - Shapeshifter (M) Changeling (This card is every creature type at all times.) : Target creature gains or loses all creature types until end of turn. Tap five untapped Shapeshifters you control: Gain control of target creature. 3/4 The eye of the beholder rests in his hand.
Rare version
Lord Of Forms Creature - Shapeshifter (R) Changeling (This card is every creature type at all times.) : Target creature gains or loses all creature types until end of turn. 2/4 The eye of the beholder rests in his hand.
The latest round of Pro Tour got me thinking. Not all the ideas were good ones. Here is a not good, but very interesting key word: Fecund (Whenever this would deal damage to a player, put that many 1/1 green Saproling tokens onto the battlefield instead.) Poop as a keyword, but fertile soil as an ability.
Moss Chomper Creature - Hippo If ~ would deal damage to a player, put that many 1/1 green Saproling tokens onto the battlefield instead Sacrifice a creature: ~ gets +2/+2 until end of turn. 3/3 The seeds are in its poop. Holy crap guys, hippo's a supported creature type!
Rot Seeder Creature - FUngus Shaman If ~ would deal damage to a player, put that many 1/1 green Saproling tokens onto the battlefield instead. Rot Seeder can’t block. 2/1
Gone To Seed Enchant creature If enchanted creature would deal damage to a player, its controller puts that many 1/1 green Saproling tokens onto the battlefield instead. -I like the Utopia Vow dynamic this has. Sometimes you want it on your stuff. Sometimes the same effect is better of on your opponent's Blightsteel Colossus.
Axe-Reddener Creature - Goblin Berserker Furor - As long as each creature you control that can attack is attacking, Axe-Reddener gets +1/+0. 1/1
The red Elite Vanguard has finally come! So is this printable/exciting? I also considered a version with haste that gained first strike.
Royal Trumpeter Creature - Human Soldier Whenever ~ attacks, put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. 0/1 To arms, to arms!
Solicitude Creature - Incarnation Solicitude enters the battlefield with four +1/+1 counters on it. Whenever another creature enters the battlefield, move a +1/+1 counter from Solicitude onto that creature. 0/0
With BFZ coming out soon we're going to be getting a camaraderie* of new allies. Before WOTC takes all my sweet, sweet ideas, I want to prove I had them first. And who wouldn't want to join up with adventurers like these?
Recruitment Drive Instant Until end of turn creatures you control become Allies in addition to their other types. Put a 1/1 white Ally creature token onto the battlefield.
Guild Paymaster Creature - Human Advisor Ally Whenever Guild Paymaster or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, you gain one life and each opponent loses one life. 1/3
So yeah. He's the one who moves the money around. Name's a little generic, but at least you could reprint it wherever you wanted. Coming up with ally names is actually kind of hard. They're defined by their function within the group, but that's not exactly a unique property among creatures.
Guild Secretary Vedalken advisor Ally At the beginning of your upkeep scry X, where X is the number of Allies you control. 0/1
With those stats he needs help from your other allies to impact the board. Luckily he's got some new recruits ready and lined up for you.
Adventuring Archivist Merfolk Wizard Ally Whenever Guild Archiver or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, draw cards until the number of cards in your hand is equal to the number of Allies you control. 2/2 It falls to me to properly document our findings. It's not as if the rest of this lot would bother with it.
The weird thing about allies is that they have to be allied with somebody. Outside the context of a setting, that somebody gets pretty vague. Hence, "guild".
Lead Excavator Goblin Ally Whenever Lead Excavator or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has “Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.” 2/1 Skips paused. More explosives might blow up the treasure, but on the other hand it would mean a bigger boom.
I posted this before but it's awesome so I did it again. Ha, you couldn't stop me.
I've been forming the basis of a set in my head for a while now. One of the major themes is names. Particularly in , you want to get multiple cards with the same name. To highlight the theme I made a mechanic that copied a spell for each other creature of the same name it could target. It got stupid with tokens so I made this instead: Twinning (You may cast a copy of this spell without paying its mana cost targeting another permanent with the same name as the original target) Not super sure on the wording but I like the effect. I liked it so much I made cards with it!
Helping Hand Instant Target creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn. Twinning (You may cast a copy of this spell without paying its mana cost targeting another permanent you control with the same name as the original target.)
A pretty basic giant growth variation for limited. Good enough to run without twins, but properly rewarding of proper use.
Brotherly Love Target creature gains indestructible until end of turn. Twinning (You may cast a copy of this spell without paying its mana cost targeting another permanent you control with the same name as the original target.) "Brother I owe you my life" said Adstrum. "Good, then my debts are repayed!" replied Astris.
Yeah, the plot totally features twins. When I came up with the keyword "twinning" it basically solved all my plot holes.
Group Think Instant Tap target creature you control. Scry X where X is that creature's converted mana cost, then draw a card. Twinning (You may cast a copy of this spell without paying its mana cost targeting another permanent you control with the same name as the original target.) I'll take your test then we'll switch back for math, alright?
The twins are identical! That wasn't really necessary to the plot but it does set up the ultimate school shenanigans.
Life Reflection Sorcery Put a token copy of target creature onto the battlefield. Twinning (You may cast a copy of this spell without paying its mana cost targeting another permanent you control with the same name as the original target.)
Could this be monogreen?
So does the mechanic have potential? Are any of the cards good? Any changes I need to make?
Oh man I still need to do COTM. Oh god I still need to update the COTM page on the wiki. Oh supergod COTW's page too.
Coloredness and colorlessness are things I've always loved playing around with. I hope that these cards will showcase just how awesome the concept can be.
Blanche Sorcery Target creature becomes colorless until end of turn. It gets -1/-1 until end of turn for each color lost this way. Is the process painful? Oh no, it is the very end of pain.
A little (read: lot) meta dependant, but it's not like this card wouldn't be printed in a set that doesn't care about this sort of thing.
Pogrom Sorcery Each player chooses a color. Destroy all creatures of the chosen colors. What good can sprout from this tainted earth? Our new world demands a better foundation.
Who doesn't like a good 'ol pogrom? Worldpurge was taken.
Chromatic Lace Instant Target creature's mana cost becomes WUBRG until end of turn. (it is all colors and has a converted mana cost of five)
The Johniest of cards. Between cmc manipulation and color changing you have to be able to find a use for this.
Wow, is this really #30? Dang. Anyway, I've had green on the brain for no particular reason so I was hoping to get some feedback on a couple green cards.
Earthly Knowledge Sorcery Draw a card for every two lands you control. -This would be fair at , but I thought it lead to more interesting decisions at . -They say green card draw has to be tied in with creatures, but this makes more sense to me.
Dryad's Call Sorcery Tap each Dryad and Treefolk creature you control, then sacrifice each other creature you control. For each creature you tapped or sacrificed this way, search your library for a Forest card and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library. -Eh, seemed interesting. Love to see this in a top-heavy token deck.
Elemental Outporing Sorcery Choose one:
Put X 1/1 green Plant creature tokens onto the battlefield.
Put an X/X green Elemental creature token onto the battlefield.
Purity - If you spent only one color of mana to cast this, do both instead. -I'm a total sucker for X costs that scale in interesting ways. -Seriously, does anybody else see a card like this and immediately chart out the different X values? -This looks great on a chart. Fair value all the way..
Wydden Ysengurra Planeswalker - Ysengurra Untap target Forest. It becomes a 3/3 Treefolk creature with vigilance in addition to its other types until end of turn. Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn where X is the number of Forests you control. You get an emblem with “Creatures you control get +1/+1 for each forest attached to them", and ": Attach a Forest you control to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.’”.
Was 4 cards too many for an ICD?
Dude's name is stupid because he's a tree and also Welsh. Be glad there were vowels.
More stuff that is green. Enjoy it. Then critique it. Thanks. Fun fact- at one point or another during design all of these cards were wolves.
Stalking Prowler Creature - Human Werewolf Hexproof When ~ becomes the target of a spell or ability, transform it. 3/2 /// Pouncing Silvermane Creature - Werewolf Trample When ~ becomes the target of a spell or ability, transform it. 6/4 -Is this too good?
Barkshield Beech Creature - Treefolk : Ysengrin gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Sacrifice a forest: Put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 3/3
Budding Guardian Creature - Elemental As an additional cost to cast ~, pay for each land you control. ~’s power and toughness are equal to twice the number of lands you control. */* -Does this card make you want to solve it? Is the problem interesting? Is the reward worthwhile?
Nature Walk Sorcery Search your library for a basic land card and reveal it. If it’s a Forest card, you may put it onto the battlefield. Otherwise, put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
Forward Panic Instant Target creature gets +1/+0 and gains trample until end of turn. You may discard a Mountain instead of paying Forward Panic’s mana cost. If you do, target creature gains haste until end of turn. You may discard a Forest instead of paying Forward Panic’s mana cost. If you do, target creature gains hexproof until end of turn.
I didn't have enough woodsy cards to keep the theme going. But I did have one.
Gaea's Reach Enchantment Whenever you play a land, you may reveal the top card of your library, if it’s a basic Forest you may put it onto the battlefield. : Scry 1 (To scry 1, look at the top card of your library, then you may put that card on the bottom of your library.)
I made this after realizing that Gaea's Touch actually sucked. Does this suck less? Maybe even not at all?
Standardized Testing Enchantment At the beginning of your end step, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control that has less than three power.
I'm just sad that "Basic Training" was taken. Any other ideas for the name?
Cryostatic Weird Creature - Weird Menace (This creature can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.) Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: Until end of turn, whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. 1/1
Original
Cryostatic Weird Creature - Weird Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: Creatures you control gain prowess until end of turn. Elude (This creature can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.) 1/1
I love the combination of "Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on ~" and "Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: Creatures you control gain prowess until end of turn", but I'm not sure this is the right shell to stuff that into.
I haven't done one of these in a while. I don't know if these are all well-developed, or even well-designed cards, but I'm pretty proud of them. I even managed to stay completely on theme! I almost never do that for a whole ICD.
Consensus Creature - Avatar Consensus’s power and toughness are both equal to the highest number of permanents you control that share a single name. */* - I want to see a small set built entirely around limited with a names matter theme in . It's just a thing for me. I blame conspiracy. And the meds. Always the meds.
The Adventure Continues Enchantment Whenever you cast a spell from your hand, reveal the top card of your library. If the revealed card has the same mana cost as that spell, you may cast the revealed card without paying its mana cost. Otherwise, you may put that card on the bottom of your library. - Of course, there are more than one ways to skin the cat that is a limited environment that encourages you to draft many cards with the same name. I was thinking Arthurian legend and storytelling motifs would be the right setting for such a set. Not sure about the mana cost though. I figure it has to be both blue and green and that two mana is definitely too little. There are 19 cards that cost if you wanted to know. Big thanks to CommanderJim for that wording.
Ebbex, The Singularity In Form Legendary Creature - Construct The “legend rule” doesn’t apply to Ebbex. Each other noncreature artifact you control is a copy of Ebbex, The Singularity In Form. 4/4 "Unite and ascend" - Creed of Union, final verse - If they land this, only god can get rid of it.
Singer Of Praises Creature - Human Bard When Singer Of Praises enters the battlefield add to your mana pool for each legendary permanent you control. 2/2 - Yeah, going to make bard a creature type. The other half of a names-matter set would be legendary cards. I guess you could rely on the nature of limited to keep that from being an issue, but I'm leery of combining the two regardless. If you have any ideas on this I would love to hear them.
Keep Watch Enchantment Whenever one or more creatures attack you or a planeswalker you control, you may cast a creature card from your hand as though it had flash. Creature spells you cast cost less to cast for each creature attacking you or a planeswalker you control.
This card is the result of me trying to make green's equivalent of Ghostly Prison. I was going to call it "Startled Awake".
Defend The Homeland! Enchantment Whenever a creature with power 4 or greater attacks you or a planeswalker you control and isn't blocked, put a 1/1 white Soldier creature token onto the battlefield blocking that creature. Valandia needs YOU! - Valandian recruitment poster My other, less green, attempt at a green Ghostly Prison.
Suicidal Offensive Enchantment Attacking creatures get +X/-X, where X is the number of attacking creatures. But sir, that's insane! I figured I was on a roll with these. Red gets lots of +X/-X effects but I wasn't sure if this was okay. It might work better as . I figured it needed to cost more than 3 to make life bearable for token decks, and hey red sucks at defensive measures anyway*.
There is no connecting theme here. Just cards I made which I think are interesting.
Three Guesses Sorcery Name three cards. Look at the top three cards of your library. Reveal any number of those cards. Put each named card revealed this way into your hand, then put each other card revealed this way on top of your library.
I just thought it seemed fun to build around this.
Veto Instant Counter target spell unless its controller taps each untapped creature he or she controls. Do any oppose the measure?
Can you guys believe that the name "Veto" hasn't been used yet? That's just nuts, right? Also this card is kind of carzy, but I think it's actually okay. Grip of Amnesia cantripped and still wasn't great.
Life Of Piety Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature can’t attack. When enchanted creature dies, draw a card.
It's half of Pacifism except it cantrips when it doesn't do the other half. Also, it isn't very good against anything big, but hey, one mana removal, sorta!
edit- I always forget that you can't use spaces to indent.
I made this cycle to replicate the effects of the lieutenant cards in commander. These auras all have an effect on both the enchanted creature and its commander. I figure they would lead to lots of interesting situations in multiplayer.
Crown Of The Servant King Enchant creature Enchanted creature and commanders sharing a controller with it can't attack or block and their activated abilities can't be activated. -Arrest you opponent's commander for war crimes they might not have even committed yet! I figured this was a unique enough effect that I worded the whole cycle in a way that supported the ability.
Crown Of The Philosopher King Enchant creature Enchanted creature and commanders sharing a controller with it have hexproof. -Hexproof for before your commander even hits the field! And it can cover an additional combo piece too! I actually might bump up the cost here.
Crown Of The Puppet King Enchant creature Whenever enchanted creature or a commander sharing a controller with it die, draw two cards. -I wanted to give each color a unique take on the cycle and this seemed like the blackest take I could take.
Crown Of The Warrior King Enchant creature Enchanted creature and commanders sharing a controller with it have first strike and haste. -The problem with haste-granting effects is that paying for them uses up mana you want to use on the creature. Well not anymore! Well, not for your commander, but the other guy gets first strike out of the deal, so it's all good.
Crown Of The Mighty King Enchant creature Enchanted creature and commanders sharing a controller get +4/+4 and have trample. -Green crown goin'a green. Wolfir Silverheart says this effect is actually worth 0 mana, so I'm in the clear.
Worse on the battlefield than Squadron Hawk, but much better at dying. It would be a largely better card if you didn't have to wait for the dying. I guess you could think of it as X+1 P/T for X white mana though; like a really bad hydra on an installment plan. Doomed Traveller's a thing too. It is also better in some ways, but worse in others. I like the name "Brother Conscript", but it doesn't get across that the token is the last, (youngest) brother. My first attempt at flav text was about the empire's policy of demanding one son from each family being extended past a son's death.
Jagged Rise Land When ~ enters the battlefield, you lose two life. : Add to your mana pool. Cycling (: Discard this card: Draw a card.)
This would be part of a cycle, yes. The red one, by the cycle's nature though, would likely be the best. This is for aggro. If you're fast enough to not care about 2 life, you can keep the gas going. If you're running this you pretty much always want it to etb untapped, but I could make it a choice for the player. Comparable: Smoldering Crater, Forgotten Cave, Blood Crypt.
Nettle Field
Broken Shore
Malarial Mire
Wicked Woods
Edit - Same great post, now with power toughness and functioning mana tags!
Death's Toll Enchantment - Aura Curse Enchant player Whenever a nontoken creature enchanted player controls dies, put a Trauma counter on Death’s Toll, then enchanted player loses one life for each Trauma Counter on Death’s Toll. "Any man's death diminishes me" - John Donne, No Man Is An Island
It deals a total of 1, then 3, 6, 10, 15, then 21 damage with the sixth creature death for a guaranteed blackjack and $10,000. Commander players aren't killed until their ninth creature dies. I had to add the nontoken bit or else it would two shot token decks alongside Damnation. (Or is that okay?) Letting it trigger on tokens would also open up the Exotic Orchard combo (which sounds awesome).
Trigonal Prism Artifact When Triagonal Prism enters the battlefield, choose three colors. Whenever you cast a three color spell that is exactly the three chosen colors, draw a card.
"That is each of the chosen three colors" or just "of those three colors"? And now something to use it with:
Some Professor Legendary Creature - ___ Wizard Gifted (As long as this creature isn't enchanted, you may cast an Aura card from your graveyard targeting it.) : Attach an Aura attached to Some Professor to another permanent. 3/3
It's based off somebody else's set so flavour will have to wait on their approval which I am too lazy to seek. Does it need something extra to be enticing? Maybe "Sac a creature: put it's auras on this guy?" Or just better stats or a keyword ability? Is this something you want to play?
Original versions
Death's Toll Enchantment - Aura Curse Enchant player Whenever a nontoken creature enchanted player controls dies, put a Toll counter on Death’s Toll, then enchanted player loses one life for each Toll Counter on Death’s Toll. "Any man's death diminishes me" - John Donne, No Man Is An Island
Triagonal Prism Artifact When Triagonal Prism enters the battlefield, choose three colors. Whenever you cast a three color spell that is each of the chosen three colors, draw a card.
Some Professor Gifted (As long as this creature isn't enchanted, you may cast an Aura card from your graveyard targeting it.) : Attach an Aura attached to Some Professor to another permanent. 3/4
Redfoot Rager Creature - Goblin Berserker Haste Suspend 1 (Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay 0 and exile it with a time counter on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter. When the last is removed, cast it without paying its mana cost. It has haste.) 1/1
Basically, I just want to give people the chance to live the dream. The dream of swinging for 4 on turn 2 without spending any mana. Or maybe the dream of sacrificing a bunch of stuff. I just want to inspire people to dream. Just what you all wanted; Lotus Bloom meets Raging Goblin! This could also have been white. Actually, I considered making it white at 2/1 but that seemed too scary, even if I made it a 2 drop to cast normally. Edit- now with power and toughness!
Bloodrage Berserker Creature - Goblin Berserker Whenever a player loses life, ~ gets +1/+1 until end of turn. 1/1
Simple puzzle + small upside = draft archetype?
Raging Fire Instant ~ costs less for each Berserker you control. ~ deals X damage to target creature or player.
Crazy, but I don't think there's ever been an X burn spell with built in cost reduction. One with "costs X less to cast" isn't a thing at any rate. Would it be too good if it counted goblins and/or berserkers? Edit- Now with Radical Jackal's wording.
From now on, I'll be putting new designs in this thread instead of starting new threads.
*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play

Installment the 41st
Trade Post Land - Station ~ enters the battlefield tapped. As ~ enters the battlefield, choose a color. Station lands you control have, ": Add one mana of the chosen color to your mana pool."
I thought about making it a Market land, but Station has gained some traction as the Jakkardian go to.
Orientation Atlas Artifact : Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card. Put that card on top of your library and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Double Or Nothing Choose target instant or sorcery spell. That spell's controller chooses one for you: *Counter that spell. *Copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
EDIT- version 2 Double Or Nothing Target instant or sorcery spell's controller may have you counter it. If they don't, copy it. You may choose new targets for the copy.
A statistic says that wacky red cards with three word titles have good odds of winning card of the year. I was feeling good about this one until I remembered Split Decision exists. At RR I think I might be able to make the second option, "Copy that spell Twice". Then it would have to be "Double Or Nothing".
*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play
Isn't the current version already a "double," and your proposed alteration a "triple"?
If you changed the name to Double or Nothing, I'd nominate it for CotW.
Trouble or Nothing Is no more. It is now Double. The thinking was your opponent would get there spell countered, and thus have nothing, or have a copy sent back at them- trouble. But when it works either way, it's usually best to play it straight and save the derivative pun for a derivative version in the future.
Not my card, but a reworking of one, so I'll put it up here:
Overpowering Explosion Instant As an additional cost to cast Overpowering Explosion, sacrifice one or two artifacts. Overpowering Explosion deals X damage divided as you choose among up to Y target creatures and/or players, where X is the converted mana cost of the first artifact sacrificed and Y is that of the second. If only one artifact is sacrificed, Y is 1.
*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play
Perfect originality is overrated and often ugly. The best and most beautiful cards I've ever seen were clearly inspired by something else. Cards are not entirely unlike living organisms in this regard. All the good ones are a result of long evolution; the 'original' ones are either mono-cellular or mutant aberrations.

Installment the 42nd I sense weakness in recent CotWs. It is time to strike.
Specter Of Oversight Creature - Specter Flying At the beginning of your end step, each opponent dealt combat damage by a creature you control this turn discards a card. 2/2
-Name too corny?
Krolo The Purist Legendary Creature - Kor Zombie Cleric Whenever a -1/-1 counter is put on a creature with a +1/+1 counter on it, exile that creature. Whenever a +1/+1 counter is put on a creature with a -1/-1 counter on it, exile that creature. 2/3 And never the twain shall meet.
-Does this need some sort of counter granting ability of its own, or is it tantalizing enough as is? I suppose I'm fine with it being commander exclusive.
Snide Aside Violent Silence
Instant Counter target spell unless its controller pays 4 life. "..." - corpses
-Most decks won't want it, but I really want to see the decks that do. Suicide tempo? Lifegain control? -I want an even more cruel sounding name. Even if it means losing the wordplay.
*"To YMTC it up" means to design cards that have value mostly from a design perspective. i.e. you would put them in a case under glass in your living room and visitors could remark upon the wonderful design principles, with nobody ever worring if the cards are annoying/pointless/confusing in actual play
Eager Pupil Creature - Human Whenever you mentor a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 1/1 -Admittedly, I don't know if this is proper fantasy fantasy cards rules speak.
Teacher's Assistant Creature - Human Mentor costs you pay cost less. 0/2 -Auriok Steelshaper says this is proper rules speak. -Sadly, most mentor costs don't have a colorless component. We'll save this one for the release of Shadows Over Return To Sagathia.

Violent Silence is the best of the bunch I think. I think I'll go with that. I'll have to change the flavour text too. Can the ellipses be improved upon? Empty quotation marks could work. Would attributing it to your opponent be too meta? Maybe, "corpses"? Heck, stage directions ([silence)/(the king bleeds out silently)(the mime struggles against the wind)] could work. Decisions, decisions.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a counterspell castable solely by paying life.
It's only a soft counter. I think that puts it a step below Mental Misstep's level. I don't think this is a scary card unless you can safely expect to have more life than your opponent. I can't think of a way to abuse this off the top of my head.
I need to see somebody use Violent Silence to counter a spell called Violence. Then I can die happy.

Instalment the 44th - Some real crazy stuff this time. Think deeply on this.
Bad Instant Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. //// Worse Instant Aftermath Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.
Grasp Of Darkness and Urge To Feed were my comparisons. This is less mana efficient, but can spread the hate over both turns and targets.
Shin Feng, The Humbling Breeze Legendary Creature - Human Monk Each creature has base power and toughness X/X, where X is that creature's original base power or base toughness, whichever is higher. 0/3
Mannichi, the Fevered Dream meets Doran/ Assault Formation! Which was the mother? I can't nail down what colors this is. P/T swapping is primarily red and sometimes blue. So I could see or . I don't think that green's damage equal to toughness ability translates well enough here for it to be monogreen. I could sort of see a flavour argument though. just seems wrong but I can't say why. Black and white occasionally make things into 0/X's. White has a greater claim though, as this is a universal effect, and can be used to help your meek little walls stand up to more threatening foes. This card essentially has two abilities- one power, and one toughness-focused. I could see it being . Combining these arguments we could add and to the mix. I want this to be multicolor for commander, but as exciting as nephilim are, I also want it to be feasible to use outside commander. Any thoughts? And the flavour could use work. I was going for a aikido angle, but I also have to imply he's teaching others the technique. Cyclone Palm Master? Wind Fist Dude? Give up and make it a spirit? A military strategist?
... I just really want to put Fastbond's text on a card and make it balanced I guess.
Challenge accepted. (And technically failed)
Azusa's Touch Enchantment You may play any number of basic lands on each of your turns, except you can't play two basic lands that share a name in the same turn. "To never be without a home is for the world itself to be yours."

Gaea's Touch makes me suspect you can't actually do that. It might be that Gaea's Touch never was intended to let you "play" the land in the first place though, but I think it's the only reference card-wise, and a part of me thinks it let you do so previously. I'd also word that as "For each basic land type, you may play an additional basic land during your turn turn of that type." or something to that effect.

That's functionally different though.
Shin Feng feels green-white to me. It's functionally an anthem that improves the survivability of your dudes and makes your already survivable dudes more powerful, which feels very green-white.
It doesn't go infinite with Wastes and works better with other extra land effects, but other than that I'm not sure what's different about it. I guess it lets you play two of one of the basic land types.

Ah dangit. I saw the Wastes combo coming and dropped the ball anyway. Changing it to name instead of type.

Don't forget, he also pumps your opponents creatures too. I'll change it from to .

Installment the 45th
Cerberus Engine got me thinking about the number 3. Pretty good number overall.
Nonavus Artifact creature - Construct ~ enters the battlefield with 9 +1/+1 counters on it. Remove three +1/+1 counters from ~: Create a 3/3 Nonavite artifact creature token. : Put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 0/0
Fury-Spewer Creature - Elemental Berserker Shaman First strike Whenever you cast a Berserker spell, Berserker creatures you control get +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is that spell's converted mana cost. 1/1
Ghost Hex Instant Exile six target cards from graveyards. May what was laid to rest here never wake. The catch is the number six.
Edit- may as well throw in a contest entry Irksome Apprentice Creature - Human Cleric When ~ enters the battlefield, name a card. Whenever the named card is cast, you gain 1 life. 2/1
