interestingly without illness in the ranks hunted horror loses to itself because 4 attacks for 6 with a turn head start beats 3 attacks for 7

(i am confident edacade was aware of that fact)

Congratulations, Golgari_Spy! You won 3 Card Magic! The usual awards don't make sense here, so... have a cookie! :cookie:

just in case, edacade should ban a card for his consolation prize

Head start or no, attempting to race is the wrong play. Because 3/3 (or 2/2 or 1/1) pro black trades with 3/3 (or 2/2 or 1/1) pro black. As does 7/7 trample with 7/7 trample. My deck does not lose to itself.

I don't think he means "The deck loses the mirror match", I think he means "Playing Hunted Horror alone against a goldfish, if you didn't have Illness in the Ranks, is an inherently losing proposition and you would be better off not playing it at all and taking the draw, rather than playing it and being beaten by its drawback." Which is true, but his math is a little wrong. 3 swings of 7 *does* win before 4 swings of 6 does (the third swing of 7 would deal 21 before the fourth swing of 6 would put that side's total damage dealt damage from 18 to 24; 14-20 14-13 8-13 8-6 2-6 2-dead). The centaurs win because one stays home to 'block' (get trampled over but survives) once. 14-20 14-13 8-13 8-6 5-6 (because one attacks and one says home) 5-2 (horror tramples 4 damage onto player but centaur survives the 'lethal' 3) dead-2.

Well, I mean...you can see where I got confused. Typically if a deck is said to "lose to itself" people are talking about a mirror match. At least, that's how the phrase "lose(s) to itself" is used around here.

Thinking about hopping back in. Not exactly sure where we are, though. The schedule says we should be on an alternate round, but what round could that be?

Not sure if serious...

CJ gave it a good fight, but pulled life support after the first round this season as we were down to 4 players.

I was serious. This game always come to a stopping point. I have faith it will be revamped.

I think the fact that that presently links to Wizards' "Whoops. You Just Exploded the Internet." server-down page might be more apt than the card you were trying to link to.

I hope it can be revamped. But dwindling traffic here at NGA, combined with attrition among people that are still daily visitors here, seem to point to a low chance of rebirth *here*.

In last season's thread GS mused about a 3CM blog (and about advertising elsewhere, like Reddit). I think that may need to be its next incarnation - a not-forum-system-bound 'Hub' for both strategy articles and actual round management, which could field participants brought in from all over the interwebs (because I think it's been demonstrated that luring people to become subscribers in a small niche forum system doesn't fly in 2017). I'd definitely be in to help that with the content and participation, but I'm not nearly schedule-compliant enough to spearhead it.

Yeah, I've always thought a separate 3CM website would be cool. It'd be a lot of work to set up, but eventually it would probably be less work day-to-day, because I'd be able to automate more stuff. On one hand, I have no real experience setting up a website, but on the other hand, there are lots of tools for that sort of thing, and I do have a computer engineering degree so how hard could it be? :V

The biggest question that's always stuck in my mind is how to properly gate submissions. I have some concern that requiring each player to create an account would turn some people away, but I can't think of a better way to prevent people from stealing each other's names or easily submitting multiple decks to game the system. On second thought, maybe the people who can't be bothered to make an account aren't the kind of players we want anyway.

Heh, you too? I have a Computer Systems Engineering degree, have worked in tech for nearly 20 years now - and my wife, whose studies include make-up and nutrition, is more able to set up a blog or website than I am.

the important thing is that you need to have it take advantage of social media, as that's the major communication medium nowadays (that probably means a twitter account and/or facebook page to advertise)

i haven't used facebook in forever, but it should have a private messaging system so there's that

the potential issue is that there's a finite amount of strategy content, but it shouldn't be difficult to keep content narrow in scope

(set reviews are going to be simple because there usually are not that many cards worth reviewing)

I don't use Twitter or Facebook. No accounts, no intention to use. Although it's probably for the best that I don't have a Twitter, because I'd be sending stuff out like:

"If meat is murder, so are salads. #alllivesmatter"

Or to sum it up, I would post random stuff to get certain groups riled up, and misappropriate hashtags such that they are being used for literal meanings (plants and animals are both living things, murdering them is considered bad, therefore "all lives matter"). I'm not sure if this means I would be considered a Twitter troll or not. :incognito:

Hi all! This is going to be a big necro, but I have revived 3 Card Magic. If you're interested in playing, I created a website for it: http://3cardmagic.org/

I really enjoyed playing 3CM and hope to continue its legacy! The 24 seasons on NGA were the best and most long-running of all the 3cm games I'm aware of.

Happy to see that this isn't just some random spambot necro! :D

The website looks good. I'll have to check it out.

Interesting! 3CM was always fun, it'll be interesting to see what time has brought to the format.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my decision to step down as the host of 3CM. Unfortunately, the dwindling motivation has made it challenging for me to continue dedicating the effort required to keep things running smoothly. Effective immediately, I am relinquishing my role as the 3CM host.

If there's someone among you who feels inspired to take up the reins and carry on this community tradition, I'm open to offering assistance in smaller capacities. However, if no one steps forward, it seems we may need to take a temporary break.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering participation over the past few years. The journey of running 3CM has been incredibly rewarding, and I sincerely hope that circumstances permit a return to this endeavor in the future.

In the meantime, I will be posting the final spreadsheet either tonight or tomorrow, and the winner will indeed take it all. Once again, thank you for being part of this community, and I look forward to seeing where the future may lead.

Wow, are the bots using AI to copy our posts now? It's like they took this post of mine and rewrote it like a student trying to pad their word count. Fascinating.
